I get automated calls for supply-teaching jobs. I was cooking, so I moved my handset/land-line into the kitchen so it'd be close by if a call came in. Was sitting at the computer, phone rings, go to where the phone normally is, not there--by the time I remember where it is, I missed the call. (Pretty sure that's what the call was for.)

(Another call came in five minutes later, as I knew it would, plus I'm on a 50-day limit anyway. Otherwise, would've posted in the parallel expensive-stupidity thread.)

I was using one of those small toothpastes you get at the dentist, just becuz. Then I had a minor spill while street skating yesterday and took out a very similar looking tube of neospoorin. When I went to brush my teeth this morning something seemed wrong, etc

going swimming with the kids is a major catalyst for my absentmindedness. i haven't forgotten anything crucial yet (costumes, towels, clothes) but then there's armbands, pool noodle, money for locker... twice i've brought the pool noodle but then left it with the buggy, last time i left the wristband with the locker key in the changing room toilet, luckily it was still there when i remembered five minutes later.

sat here thinking the Christmas tv adverts have started early this year when I'm watching 10 month old recordings

packed suitcase full of laundry and threw in a couple of liquitabs. emptied entire contents into launderette washing machine.

got back and there on the floor are the liquitabs...

Picked up a CD of Neil Young's "Freedom" cheap in a charity shop. Played it a few days later, went to file it, discovered a copy of the same album already sitting on the shelf.

We are moving our office next week, so I have been going through all my old office shit. I have objects that I am sure I purchased at some point, but I don't have any recollection when, let alone what for.

I was in a rush the other morning and destroyed a Bialetti Moka pot - put the coffee in, but no water

I thought 'what the fuck is that smell?' as the plastic handle was engulfed in flames and fell off into the burner

xxpost - I have a friend we call The Ambien Chef, as he's (in)famous for putting a frozen pizza in the oven and then promptly falling asleep (always when drunk)

Hours later he discovers the blackened, carbonized pie with the oven still roaring away

Most mornings I have to fight the urge to put the coffee I grind into my cup instead of the coffee maker.

I knew this would happen eventually (I figured I'd show up at the wrong school one day), but after two years of supplying up here, I totally forgot I had a job booked today. It wasn't till just before 9:00 when I realized (after sitting around last night, puzzled that a call never came in); the school's start time was 9:15, and I'm 40-45 minutes away. Frantically phoned the school, told them I'd had an emergency and would be there at 9:30. (So lucky it was the latest start-time possible.) Snow on the ground, of course--in another stroke of luck, the roads had been plowed. Got there just after 9:40. Told a little fib: said I had to rush out when my second alarm didn't go off, and I headed out for E_______, rather than E________, where I was supposed to be. Thankfully, they were cool about it.

Not expensive--I'll get paid--so I didn't post on the parallel thread I created. But this seems a lot more stupid than everyday absent-mindedness.

I bet that day off feeling until 9 felt pretty good tho

The panic was pronounced. When I called the school, it took me three tries to get the number right.

B and I spent a week working on making a thoughtful and pricey set of gifts for my bff's 21st wedding anniversary.

Then promptly headed off to the party and left the gifts at home >:|

Came down to London for the office Xmas party. Left my laptop in the office because I didn't need it overnight. Forgot to consider that no-one would be coming in to the office on the day after the party, and I don't have a key. Perhaps more idiot minded than absent minded.

This thread tl/dr: I forgot my shit

Headed home from USA today. Somehow left my passport packed in my checked luggage, sailed thru security with my nexus card but had to put on some charm and a song & dance to actually board the plane.

Also left my jacket in the car of the dude who dropped me at the airport. Not quite sure how I’m getting it back.

My three year old daughter is following in my footsteps, she lost her Ashima train for a week then found it in the fridge. The answer is always “it’s in the fridge”. Keys, passport, credit cards, missing books: fridge.

Gearing up for another marathon trip across the country. Can’t wait to see what I forget this time! Last weekend I went to the next city for a show and left my phone charger in the hotel room. Since I’ve got 3 flights (5 including layovers) I’ll have plenty of opportunities to lose all sorts of things!

Left my vape on the dresser and a travel mug fulla fresh coffee under the machine this morning. I hope they’re having a wonderful day off together while I work to support them.

Yesterday I took some pre-pandemic credit cards and student cards out of my overstuffed wallet and chucked them in the bin.

Today, I couldn’t find my wallet.

Did I put my wallet somewhere sensible? Of course not. After hours of searching, I found it in the obvious place, in the bin on top of my expired credit cards, and underneath two used nappies.

First post here, I think, but today I turned on the hot water to do dishes, and I always have to let it run a while before it gets hot, but this time it was taking a long time. "Did my water heater go out," I wondered, so I went into the bathroom and ran the hot water in the tub. It got warm after a while so I went back to the kitchen and discovered the running water was still was cold. I did the cognitive dissonance thing for a bit - hot in bathroom, cold in kitchen, but supplied by the same hot water heater, whahhh?. Then I noticed (of course) that I had turned the cold tap on in the kitchen, not the hot.

I was pressure washing the siding this weekend when the hose from the washer to the gun went pop. Goddmamit, turned off the washer, turned off the water, disconnected the hose from the gun, disconnected the other side from the washer.

Found another hose from an older washer, but it only worked with the old washer. Whatever. Just wanted to finish up at this point. Dropped the old washer down next to the new washer. Switched out the plugs in the power outlet. Switched the garden hose from the water from the old one to the new one. Turned it on, started washing the mold off the siding again. Was pleasantly surprised how well it was doing when in a snap, it just stopped.

Goddammmit again! This is why I mothballed this piece of shit. No holes in the pressure hose. Power was still on. Garden hose still connected snugly.

Garden hose... after about 15 minutes, I went over and turned the water spigot back on. That... that did the trick, turning on the water.

Just before I left work today, I told the E.A. in the class my story about the hearing aids last night. Leave, back 15 seconds later: "As I often do, forgot my mouse--that explains a lot about the hearing-aids story." (Many teachers don't use a mouse, so I bring one with me.) Leave, back 15 seconds later: "Uh, maybe I should leave the yard-duty vest here."

Honest to god, if I knew how to animate, I'd be on YouTube with my own series yesterday: "Adventures of a Doddering Old Supply Teacher."

Spent 10 mins panicking last night cos my work laptop which had been right next to me on the couch all day suddenly wasnt there. Looked all over the room, only to eventually find it right where it'd been all along, next to me. A pile of paper on top of it was enough to make me go blind.

I swear, I'd fall for the Superman/Clark Kent thing.
