Summer 1980 I was super-lucky to be part of a road trip/fossil dig for a palentology museum and for four days we camped out just outside of Worland, Wyoming and dug out bucketfuls of ammonites and belemnites. At that same stopover I also saw my first rodeo and cowboy I guess (if you define it as someone who casually open carries a six-shooter as they would their hat), but it wasn't nearly as impressive as standing on a hill made out of jurassic squid parts.

Here's the background on the place: https://thenaturalhistorian.com/2016/10/11/hiking-through-the-jurassic-period-in-wyoming-a-sheep-mountain-fossil-hunt/

(heads up, that site is largely concerned with reconciling divine creation with the truth of the geologic record but it's a good description of the Sheep Mountain Anticline. Nevertheless, the Squid Gods will come for us all)
