most people don't read "own the libs" literally, as in "enslave the libs", but if you translate the language that says they only intend to use the amount of violent force required to ensure that they resume entire control over society, that's the import of it.

This current moment is more like "Oh hey, if we just do this, this and this we can still control everything forever."

Lara Logan's downfall would be tragic if she wasn't clearly awful. I think for a lot of people, they start a bit down this road and people think they're crazy, but it just makes them double down even moreso and that just gets exponentially worse over time the more people think they're insane.

I have a former friend whose descent from Obama voter hanging out with multicultural and gender fluid artists and musicians in Los Angeles to extremely online alt-right anti-trans/crypto-racist/anti-vaccine/Q-believing cartoonist in Colorado has been one of the most depressing trajectories in life of anyone I know. Not the Colorado part, that’s fine.

xp Yeah, was it in him all the time, or did some external trauma change him? Not long ago, a close friend of mine divorced his wife of close to 20 years. A few years before they split, she had a serious head injury. Her personality seemed to change after that point--or maybe it's more accurate to say the worst aspects of her personality came to the fore.

I used to work for a woman who was horrible - she’d bring people into her office, shut the door, and berate them in a voice that could be heard down the hall. One day she was hit by a taxi and smacked her head on the curb, spent a couple of weeks in the hospital, and when she came back she was the nicest person on earth. I’d read about radical personality shifts like that but never experienced one up close. It was WILD.
