I can't tell if Keyes is joking or not.

i sure hope "western wind" and "beach house" are both outliers

same here, not feeling these singles at all sadly..

fragglerock, Saturday, 17 September 2022 15:24 (one year ago) link

two weeks pass...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WwZjjiD8eoE

lol i really do not like the way their voices go together, but the track is fine otherwise

ufo, Friday, 7 October 2022 04:11 (one year ago) link

v classy like "julien," love it

flamenco drop (BradNelson), Friday, 7 October 2022 13:20 (one year ago) link

the coda ("and in the morning...") is fucking amazing basically

flamenco drop (BradNelson), Friday, 7 October 2022 13:28 (one year ago) link

"bends" ;_;

flamenco drop (BradNelson), Sunday, 9 October 2022 00:16 (one year ago) link

Good song, this album is going to be great.

Bee OK, Sunday, 9 October 2022 00:38 (one year ago) link

this is very solid, i like the generally chill vibe. the only thing i don't like is "beach house". "western wind" was an odd single but works better in context of the album's vibe. "bends" and "bad thing twice" are especially great

ufo, Sunday, 9 October 2022 01:42 (one year ago) link

"keep away"!!!!!

this album settles into such a gorgeous, relaxed groove from "bends" onwards

uberweiss, Sunday, 9 October 2022 19:22 (one year ago) link

big fan of this record even though it is obv her most varied offering yet. simultaneously it's also the one that hits the most yacht rock/sophistipop notes in a row tho

flamenco drop (BradNelson), Sunday, 9 October 2022 22:17 (one year ago) link

yeah the sophisti- vibes on this are wonderful

ufo, Sunday, 9 October 2022 23:25 (one year ago) link

Where/how is this album already available?

Tim F, Sunday, 9 October 2022 23:48 (one year ago) link

it leaked so soulseek or wherever else

ufo, Sunday, 9 October 2022 23:49 (one year ago) link

wtf I love "Beach House" now

J. Sam, Sunday, 9 October 2022 23:52 (one year ago) link

It really fits as part of that opening run of sub-3-minute songs

J. Sam, Sunday, 9 October 2022 23:54 (one year ago) link

it kind of fits with the vibe but not really, easily the worst thing on here

ufo, Sunday, 9 October 2022 23:55 (one year ago) link

last time I tried to find an early leak of one of her albums I downloaded a false-labelled hour of a man shouting "I am Carly Rae Jepsen I like to sing the songs" so the bar for me trying to find this is quite low

― boxedjoy,

I would pay for this.

"shooting star" has me completely delirious

there are so many amazing outros on this album

uberweiss, Tuesday, 11 October 2022 18:46 (one year ago) link

"bad thing twice" => "shooting star" => "go find yourself or whatever" => "the loneliest time" is cinema

uberweiss, Tuesday, 11 October 2022 18:50 (one year ago) link

Was alerted to this by sample of video with Rufus Wainwright that will appear in full tomorrow.

Seconded as well

Is this some kind of sly tribute to Rufus and Carla Thomas?

Askeladd v. BMI (James Redd and the Blecchs), Thursday, 13 October 2022 13:43 (one year ago) link

The early singles work really well in the context of the album. Loving the sophisti-pop vibes on a few of these tracks. On my second run through now and it's hitting the spot.

The Ghost Club, Thursday, 20 October 2022 21:30 (one year ago) link

Far Away is great. Love the Scritti Politti-esque synth bassline in the chorus.

The Ghost Club, Thursday, 20 October 2022 21:41 (one year ago) link

Ok so Beach House still misses. But Western Wind does work much better in the album context. Still not a great single, but it adds some nice mid-album atmosphere.

The last two singles (Talking to Yourself, Three Loneliest Time) both slay on the record.

The Ghost Club, Thursday, 20 October 2022 21:46 (one year ago) link

Lol the*

The Ghost Club, Thursday, 20 October 2022 21:46 (one year ago) link

Are y'all too busy listening to Taylor?

This album is really good, much better than Dedicated. Much more variety.

The Ghost Club, Friday, 21 October 2022 05:34 (one year ago) link

It's late in America, tomorrow is going to be a fun day. Can't wait to hear this.

Bee OK, Friday, 21 October 2022 05:39 (one year ago) link

it leaked like two weeks ago so there's a million other things to hear today. i think it's a little worse than dedicated just for "beach house" but still pretty good overall

ufo, Friday, 21 October 2022 05:41 (one year ago) link

Fair enough. And yeah Beach House isn't great...

The Ghost Club, Friday, 21 October 2022 05:44 (one year ago) link

Far Away being good seconded!

imago, Friday, 21 October 2022 12:56 (one year ago) link

Jesus, I somehow hadn't heard Western Wind until now

imago, Friday, 21 October 2022 13:07 (one year ago) link

Works so well in context!

I think the only track which hasn't really convinced me yet is the opener, weirdly, cos people seem to love that one

imago, Friday, 21 October 2022 13:10 (one year ago) link

WW rules i don't know what the naysayers are on about

Beach House though, that had me worried

Look forward to sitting down with the whole thing

maf you one two (maffew12), Friday, 21 October 2022 14:26 (one year ago) link

this record is just so fucking great

flamenco drop (BradNelson), Friday, 21 October 2022 15:46 (one year ago) link

world stops and the autumn leaves freeze in time mid-fall for the entirety of "western wind" every time i play it

flamenco drop (BradNelson), Friday, 21 October 2022 16:34 (one year ago) link

sheesh maybe this is her best album

flamenco drop (BradNelson), Friday, 21 October 2022 16:50 (one year ago) link

I like this album. Also I like "Beach House," it's her most convincing disco track.

This album is fun

Bee OK, Friday, 21 October 2022 19:40 (one year ago) link

Beach House isn't great, I find it cringey, both lyrically and musically.

The title track is a way better disco bop, after she yells: "I'm coming back for you!" Iconic moment. Then those disco strings!

Talking to Yourself is def the best single from the bunch imo.

The Ghost Club, Friday, 21 October 2022 19:41 (one year ago) link

"beach house" feels like its knowingly cringey, which makes it...camp?

comedy khadafi (voodoo chili), Friday, 21 October 2022 19:44 (one year ago) link

Technically I think it's knowingly camp, which makes it ironic. I don't know, it's a goofy song, hard to hate. She's kind of goofy! That's what charmed me about her live show, she's got kind of a shtick going.

And I agree, the title track is her best disco. But Beach House is fun too.

Bends is driving me crazy because I'm certain the melody of the verse is basically the same as a Momus song, but I can't figure out which one. I think I might be thinking of Voyager, but I'm not really sure.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iqKDUXp2gDk

Almost certainly a coincidence, just too weird to imagine Jepsen listening to Momus of all people.

Anyway, this album rules, can't stop listening to it.

OneSecondBefore, Friday, 21 October 2022 19:59 (one year ago) link

This album is good, not great. I think it may be a grower. Beach House does kinda suck and take you out of it, I do wish it wasn’t there. Nothing really sticks out, which is a shame, she has had some great star making moments and this seems to lack a “Too much” or “Boy Problems”. It’s a nice pop star “growing up” record though, like Taylor has been doing for a while.
