I like how Taylor Swift peaked at 72 and there are people saying that there's too much of her on here and others saying there's not enough.
She peaked at 58 and there's 3 tracks here. I don't think any artist this decade warranted more than 2 other than say maybe Kendrick. But I have him has my "Artist of the Decade". A lot of banal pop is preventing some real classics (Pick Up) and ILM classics (Simmy - Umahlalela, Rosalía - anything off of El Mal Querer). Shit even Low got snubbed a bit.

I like Love On Top and Countdown but they are both so retro, I think Beyoncé transcended them in the decade

Completely memory-holing Cee-Lo's "Fuck You" and Kanye West's "Mercy" so we could fit in more Carly Jeppers, good work

love whiney obviously but name me a more timeless geriatric ILM moment than rolling stone’s rock critic complaining about dance-pop outranking [2010s cee-lo and kanye west]

completely insane list lmao

whats crazier, two successive carly rae songs in the top 5, two susanne sundfor songs at all, or imago explaining that there's no afroPOP because this list is tilted towards POP

my impression of Susanne Sundfør's music is that it is very morose, it seems almost absurdly gothic. I did like listening to it though in retrospect for this thread

Yeah it’s a weird blend. She nails it tho
― ✖✖✖ (Moka), Saturday, 20 August 2022 02:28 (one year ago) link
I had heard “fade away” before on the eoy poll and didn’t love it. “delirious” is the one that convinced me to listen to the whole album, voters where correct in choosing it as the best song, the vocal acrobatics are impressive.
― ✖✖✖ (Moka), Saturday, 20 August 2022 02:31 (one year ago) link
It’s almost classical music disguised as synth sophisti-pop.

it's an album I want to listen to

I know there hasn't been a lot of talk about Billie Eilish on this board but still, by reputation alone, I thought she would be a lock for one song placing. So yeah my biggest surprise, especially with how much pop placed, is that she was shut out of the Top 100.

Not sure if it was nommed but I would have considered voting for “bury a friend” or “everything I wanted” in their respective years. There’s too many tracks I’d place above those in an end of decade poll tho.
― ✖✖✖ (Moka), Saturday, 20 August 2022 03:33 (one year ago) link
She has some great songs and some are worthy of a Top 50 placing but ILM didn't see it that way. and yes I'm surprised.

“Bad guy” doesn’t really sound brilliant to me. It’s just barely better than most mainstream music.
― ✖✖✖ (Moka), Saturday, 20 August 2022 03:35 (one year ago) link
“Bury a Friend” or “Everything I Wanted” both got three votes. I voted "Bad Guy" in the end.

That said I wouldn’t vote “bury a friend” over “black skinhead” which sort of have the same template. As much as I don’t like Kanye.

When Susanne Sundfør's Ten Love Songs was new and people were talking about it a lot, it was commonly referred to as "Goth ABBA." Kinda funny, but also kinda true.

Thanks pollrunners!
It's always a bit weird for me to see stuff like Sondfor or Destroyer near the top of a tracks list - despite the fact that I loved and voted for the albums from whence they came - because they feel like they fall a bit outside the (airquote) 'public' notion of pop that I associate these tracks polls with, even though in truth those tracks are much less obscure to the typical ILMer (and indeed perhaps the public generally) than most of the more self-consciously pop/populist tracks that occupied the top of my ballot.

voodoo chilli otm up thread although I would add anotherno future no thug no gucci mane means y'all were living in a different decade to me.was p sure that no kpop would place as mostly we all like different artists.

Susanne Sundfor sounds more pop to me than say that track from The Knife. But then again our #1 and #2 are songs I don’t think I’ve ever heard in the wild.
― ✖✖✖ (Moka), Saturday, 20 August 2022 14:05 (one year ago) link
Lana del Rey is another one. She’s quite famous but I’ve never heard her music out in the wild. Not sure what the context to hear her music would be. Boutique hotel lobbies? Hipster clothing stores?

― big movers, hot steppers + long shaker intros (breastcrawl), Saturday, 20 August 2022 14:14 (one year ago) link
Anyways I’d say The Knife, Todd Terje and Lana del Rey are more - or similarly removed from the public notion of a pop song than Sundfor or Destroyer.
― ✖✖✖ (Moka), Saturday, 20 August 2022 14:18 (one year ago) link
Lol sorry breastcrawl, when looking for images I think I found that one of Lana on Venice Beach and my brain changed the information when writing the title

I can’t even seem to find the list, but did “Gas Pedal” or “Red Nose” place? what about “Bandz” ?In a sense I am glad I didn’t realize this poll was going on— from the partial list that I have seen and discussion, it seems like a lot of stuff that bewilders me made the cut.

The remix of LDR's "Summertime Sadness" was a genuine hit that got a lot of radio airplay in the U.S., and probably helped solidify her fan base, but it's true that she's now more of an art-pop icon and critics' darling than a chart mainstay.

I'm surprised "Wildest Moments" finished ahead of "Imagine It Was Us," though I'm partially to blame for not voting. ("Imagine It Was Us" would've been in my top 5.)

I was curious how many of the top 100 were "singles" and which were "deep tracks", though I don't really understand how or if that distinction exists in 2022.

It’s telling that the tracks I mention didn’t get nominated when every single one was better than anything Swift has ever released.

"Red Nose" was #693 in the 2013 tracks poll, while "Gas Pedal" didn't get any votes (not sure it was even nominated). The fact that they didn't place in a decade poll is telling of the fact that Sage the Gemini is (shocker) less popular than Taylor Swift.
