ILM's Top 100 Tracks of the 2010s

ILM 2010s Tracks Poll: stats, ballots, norwegian disco, too much pop, all sound like a dream to me

it seems like everyone on ILM has retreated to particular rolling genre threads that interest them

it's also that each of those threads didn't generally have enough consensus among their denizens to really breach the top 100 on their own much

Yeah, I'm not surprised something like Pooley or Bubble Pop! didn't top the poll, it's just that the consensus is getting more and more tasteful and 'sophisticated' by the year, and I find it kinda dull.

Kpop is bigger than ever but has featured less and less on the year-end polls here. Maybe because it's so broad now and the most globally popularly acts (BTS, Blackpink) are not really releasing the most interesting music. So the genre fans gather in smaller groups around lesser-known artists.

For this chart though you could imagine something like 'I Am the Best' by 2NE1 featuring. Maybe people are tired of the 2NE1 becoming ubiquitous.

Taylor would surely have suffered from vote splitting a bit too as seem to recall there were a *lot* of her tracks nominated xps

i was the number one voter for “stoner,” that song completely changed the game and still sounds like nothing else

kpop has been on a bit of a decline in the last few years, there's still stuff i really enjoy but it's not anywhere as consistently exciting as it was at its ~2011 to ~2017 peak. combination of the industry running out of ideas a little & not pushing forward in the way they used to + BTS's success leading to blander sounds in attempts to break into the west

but yeah not even "i am the best" making the top 100 was a shame, let alone say, "red flavor"

Yeah, I listen to less and less Kpop these days too (though Feel My Rhythm by Red Velvet will make it very high on my list this year). Just listened to IDOL right now, though, and it honestly sounded like a classic. One Direction didn't make gqom-tracks.

re: taylor the two best-liked singles from 1989 & the cult-favourite red album track placed and i would have been surprised if she'd done much better in this poll, there's a fair amount of contrast between the enthusiasm for her singles & her albums here

my suggestion to moka was to do "you need to calm down" as a joke #20

absolutely going to be heavily campaigning heavily for "feel my rhythm" this year, and yeah i loved "idol", pretty daring and the last time BTS did anything really worthwhile at all

Definitely good to see some things I only ever see discussed or praised on ILM make the cut - Sun-E, Javiera, Diddy Dirty Money, KING, Pachanga Boys, Richard Dawson - even if I don't necessarily like them all myself.

I like how Taylor Swift peaked at 72 and there are people saying that there's too much of her on here and others saying there's not enough.

She peaked at 58 and there's 3 tracks here. I don't think any artist this decade warranted more than 2 other than say maybe Kendrick. But I have him has my "Artist of the Decade". A lot of banal pop is preventing some real classics (Pick Up) and ILM classics (Simmy - Umahlalela, Rosalía - anything off of El Mal Querer). Shit even Low got snubbed a bit.

I had heard “fade away” before on the eoy poll and didn’t love it. “delirious” is the one that convinced me to listen to the whole album, voters where correct in choosing it as the best song, the vocal acrobatics are impressive.

It’s almost classical music disguised as synth sophisti-pop.

I know there hasn't been a lot of talk about Billie Eilish on this board but still, by reputation alone, I thought she would be a lock for one song placing. So yeah my biggest surprise, especially with how much pop placed, is that she was shut out of the Top 100.

Not sure if it was nommed but I would have considered voting for “bury a friend” or “everything I wanted” in their respective years. There’s too many tracks I’d place above those in an end of decade poll tho.

She has some great songs and some are worthy of a Top 50 placing but ILM didn't see it that way. and yes I'm surprised.

“Bad guy” doesn’t really sound brilliant to me. It’s just barely better than most mainstream music.

“Bury a Friend” or “Everything I Wanted” both got three votes. I voted "Bad Guy" in the end.

That said I wouldn’t vote “bury a friend” over “black skinhead” which sort of have the same template. As much as I don’t like Kanye.

“Black skinhead” is a great gym song.

When Susanne Sundfør's Ten Love Songs was new and people were talking about it a lot, it was commonly referred to as "Goth ABBA." Kinda funny, but also kinda true.
