You're all really missing out on Tobias Rahim, btw, but that probably can't be helped :)

yeah lol how did i miss k-pop or j-pop off my list above

imago, Friday, 19 August 2022 09:26 (one year ago) link

LTTP and especially Hate You Now own so hard btw, how tf did i not bother with this album sooner

imago, Friday, 19 August 2022 09:27 (one year ago) link

was 'This Is America' nominated?

nashwan, Friday, 19 August 2022 09:35 (one year ago) link

Still expecting two dancehall bangers in the top 20. One PC music offshoot too. My k-pop pick is Girl Front, which I am sad to concede now is probably not placing. Too excited to guess which other songs from my top 15 might place...probably only one of them, but it will be elating if ILX has suddenly decided some emo and pop-punk ranks amongst the undeniable.

tangenttangent, Friday, 19 August 2022 09:38 (one year ago) link

In the spirit of breastcrawl's mithering, we definitely also need at least one more Horrible Imagocore Avant Nonsense*; only been what, two so far? Three if we count gecs. Fingers crossed for annoyance

*there's one PC-Music-parallel imagocore/pure-pop crossover thing which, if it places, I will officially freak

imago, Friday, 19 August 2022 09:41 (one year ago) link

Akanamali was my late just-the-two-of-us-when-everyone-has-left wedding song, and I gave it 50 points, and it better places. The rest I forgive.

Nabozo, Friday, 19 August 2022 10:50 (one year ago) link

Although I thought Simmy had serious chances

Nabozo, Friday, 19 August 2022 10:51 (one year ago) link

Things from my ballot which I think have a (from high to slim) chance of placing at this stage:

Grimes - Realiti (Demo)
Solange - Cranes In The Sky
Lindstrom & Christabelle - Lovesick
Röyksopp & Robyn - Monument
David Bowie - Lazarus
Javiera Mena - Otra Era
Flying Lotus - Never Catch Me
Anna Meredith - Nautilus
Missy Elliott- WTF (Where They From)
Shura - Touch
Lim Kim - Awoo

will be happy if I see more than 2/3 of these

link.exposing.politically (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Friday, 19 August 2022 11:03 (one year ago) link

from my ballot I'm confident we'll see Terje, (more) Beyonce, Call Me Maybe, Nadia Oh

wildcard guess: Melanie de Biasio

TWELVE Michelob stars?!? (seandalai), Friday, 19 August 2022 11:04 (one year ago) link

If Awoo places, I'll be ecstatic :)

Frederik B, Friday, 19 August 2022 11:08 (one year ago) link

I think I have one more thing to place tbh

imago, Friday, 19 August 2022 11:11 (one year ago) link

It had better. I've got about 6 or 7 where I can't imagine how they wouldn't place at all.

tangenttangent, Friday, 19 August 2022 11:15 (one year ago) link

The ILM hivemind largely steered my listening this past decade, so I also think 6-7 things on my ballot will still place

Vinnie, Friday, 19 August 2022 11:16 (one year ago) link

absence of Dawn Richard is a war crime tbh

seo layer (Noodle Vague), Friday, 19 August 2022 11:49 (one year ago) link

entirely agree, but I'd imagine votesplitting is the cause there

imago, Friday, 19 August 2022 11:56 (one year ago) link

besides, she's not entirely absent, as discovered

imago, Friday, 19 August 2022 11:57 (one year ago) link

I ranked the top 6 tracks on my ballot, and all but two of them have placed. I have zero worries about those placing today. They're shambhala royalty.

people really like Paramore

it's incredibly justified

flamenco drop (BradNelson), Friday, 19 August 2022 13:01 (one year ago) link

I'd forgotten that a #1 gets 100 points because of the bigger ballot size, so I think there's still space to place for some things with a small group of really enthusiastic voters

wow surprised as Ain't It Fun never seemed as popular as Still Into You in all lists at the time. Loved the former on first listen while the latter always left me cold.

nashwan, Friday, 19 August 2022 13:22 (one year ago) link

on the one hand, this is the War On Drugs surrogate. on the other, it is at least better than War On Drugs

imago, Friday, 19 August 2022 13:24 (one year ago) link

"Ain't It Fun" became a top ten in America a year after the album, not uncommon twenty or thirty years ago but wau in 2014.

Malevolent Arugula (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Friday, 19 August 2022 13:24 (one year ago) link

I believe "Ain't it Fun" got relatively high on other lists in 2014, when it actually became more of a hit, as opposed to the 2013 when the album was released. ILM just happened to be ahead of the curve on that one.

MarkoP, Friday, 19 August 2022 13:25 (one year ago) link

I Still Prefer Still Into You but Ain't it Fun has its own kind of energy that explodes in the right setting

Funny, I'm the opposite. They're a bit the same song tbh, so go figure.

Do we prefer the radio mix of "Ain't It Fun"?

Malevolent Arugula (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Friday, 19 August 2022 13:31 (one year ago) link

here it is. such a banger

imago, Friday, 19 August 2022 13:32 (one year ago) link

Too high

Nabozo, Friday, 19 August 2022 13:33 (one year ago) link

I prefer the album mix because that's what I was always used to.

Lim Kim - Awoo

― link.exposing.politically (Camaraderie at Arms Length)

God damn, I really should have voted.

I'm definitely feeling very 'blah' about the tracks in here but I shouldn't complain because I didn't participate. But it does feel all kind of samey. I think I worked out why I'm against artist caps for year-end polls but would be for it here, and that's because EoY I want to be a fully accurate portrayal of what people listened to, whereas in this one I'd like more of a "this is cool stuff that happened within the decade" overview.

emil.y, Friday, 19 August 2022 13:33 (one year ago) link

Ain't It Fun is one of the songs that made Paramore become one of my favourite bands. We even named our daughter Hayley last year due to how obsessed we were with those last two albums.

Surprised that Venice Bitch beat Video Games.

kitchen person, Friday, 19 August 2022 13:33 (one year ago) link

I voted for Venice Bitch, not surprised to see it much higher than Video Games, it has more long term appeal

silverfish, Friday, 19 August 2022 13:40 (one year ago) link

You didn’t vote emily? Really wanted to see your ballot I always find great stuff in your eoy ballots.

LOL

Didn't "Proof" also do very well (win?) the album poll of Paramore? Always been my favorite track but "Ain't It Fun" and "Still Into You" are better singles choices. The coda of "Ain't It Fun" is a true scream-it-from-the-car moment of joy.

Indexed, Friday, 19 August 2022 13:42 (one year ago) link

Surely the greatest use of a Flexatone in music, this. I have one at home. I use it to annoy guests

imago, Friday, 19 August 2022 13:42 (one year ago) link

No, I nominated two albums but then couldn't muster up the energy to participate any further! Just finding everything very difficult at the moment.

xxp
