it’s good to use a roster spot for an assistant coach, lightyears ahead
― k3vin k., Sunday, 21 August 2022 23:49 (one year ago) link
the deal they made with him not only paid off on its own but they can use it as proof to any future players they might want to do some off the books business with

it is both unethical and moral, hats off

yeah hopefully the heat can figure out how to manage the back end of their roster one of these days :[
― J0rdan S., Monday, 22 August 2022 00:28 (one year ago) link
maybe they could try giving bol bol a multi year deal

I cannot recommend it!
― k3vin k., Monday, 22 August 2022 00:49 (one year ago) link
The Heat finally picked a foreign player so maybe they will stop doing asinine things like keeping Haslem on the roster soon yeah
― Matt Armstrong, Monday, 22 August 2022 03:22 (one year ago) link
as heat fans we can only hope that one day pat riley will be able to channel the wisdom of matt armstrong
― J0rdan S., Monday, 22 August 2022 04:42 (one year ago) link
But he is doing that. He finally drafted a foreign player. Remember when you defended him not doing that for some reason
― Matt Armstrong, Monday, 22 August 2022 05:58 (one year ago) link
Pat Riley has conceded that this was a bad idea, something which speaks to his character and I admire it.

bane is off limits for kd? lol some of these teams are delusional
The Grizzlies have five first-round picks to theoretically utilize in a Kevin Durant trade, but sources say that they will not make Jaren Jackson Jr. or Desmond Bane available. More details: https://t.co/v0E9k9pA4s https://t.co/rqj9nZaxwI— Shams Charania (@ShamsCharania) August 22, 2022

everyones trying to get a nice deal on kd
― lag∞n, Monday, 22 August 2022 15:34 (one year ago) link
i think stuff like "bane is off limits" is just an indication of how far away any of these deals are from actually being completed. it seems like teams often start from places of impossibility -- i.e. the nets allegedly asking for both tatum *and* brown -- before meeting in the middle. my guess would be that this "news" is indicative only of things leaking early in the process. i think if the grizz and nets hammered out 90% of a deal and bane was the sticking point, bane would end up on the nets.

I almost wonder if the owners/GMs are colluding here. I know that KD has said stuff that makes him feel radioactive, but in other seasons you'd have at least one team stupid/desperate enough to jump at the chance to trade for him, 34-year-old on a 4-year day be damned.
― It's like there's a Republican party in my mouth and everyone's indicted (Leee), Monday, 22 August 2022 16:45 (one year ago) link
day = deal
generally for a player of KD’s caliber, the length of his contract would be a plus, but in his case it has got to be a turnoff for a lot of teams. he’s 34 with an injury history and has now proven himself to be the kind of guy who requests trades a lot
― k3vin k., Monday, 22 August 2022 16:48 (one year ago) link
there's just not that many stupid front offices anymore... also the scrutiny/coverage of transactions and the post-moneyball understanding of things like value vs salary, contract length, aging curves among fans is in a totally different place than it was 10-20 years ago. front offices are def sensitive to this stuff & it def effects the trade market & this one in particular
― J0rdan S., Monday, 22 August 2022 16:52 (one year ago) link
in 1995 you'd def have teams lining up to trade their best 23 year old all star making no money for a 34 year old KD but that's never gonna happen nowadays
― J0rdan S., Monday, 22 August 2022 16:53 (one year ago) link
in 2022, you'd have a legion of reply guys lining up to do the same
― comedy khadafi (voodoo chili), Monday, 22 August 2022 17:08 (one year ago) link
it's completely understandable why a young and fun team like the grizzlies wouldn't want to fuck up the juju they had last year by trading young pieces and importing the "beat it kid" guy
― comedy khadafi (voodoo chili), Monday, 22 August 2022 17:09 (one year ago) link
the intractable issue is that the only teams who should be trying to trade for KD are teams who can win the title and if you're trying to win a title by trading for KD you're going to want to keep as many good players on your team as possible
― J0rdan S., Monday, 22 August 2022 17:11 (one year ago) link
yeah theres a bunch of things that make this deal tough but prob the biggest is the nets arent willing to do a picks centered deal, so if you have to hollow your team out to get him then theres no point in getting him
― lag∞n, Monday, 22 August 2022 17:28 (one year ago) link
then combine that with the fact that hes old injury prone disloyal and makes a shitload of money and it just becomes hard to put something together
― lag∞n, Monday, 22 August 2022 17:29 (one year ago) link
why did kd sign that long ass extension lol
― Spottie, Monday, 22 August 2022 17:34 (one year ago) link
yeah he should gone the bron way of signing a bunch of two year deals
― lag∞n, Monday, 22 August 2022 17:39 (one year ago) link
yeah that is really puzzling
― J0rdan S., Monday, 22 August 2022 17:43 (one year ago) link
he was so smart doing that with the dubs then decided to hitch his wagon to his mopey pal and an unproven coach/franchise... cos vibes. i guess he could also realize he is on the downslope and could have another huge injury so just took the most he could get as soon as he could get it, but that doesnt seem likely. his miscalculations are piling up.
he shoulda locked in w the dubs and gone for bill russells record.
