I promise I only voted for one KING track, but thrilled to see more than one place.

same with me for Royals. loved it on first listen, but heard it way too much and got into the other tracks on the first EP/album more and then just kind of... bored of her, i guess. not sure if my fault or hers, or everyone else that overplayed her stuff.

I loved "Royals" from the first time I heard it, and still think it sounds great

Aww, good thing this is placing. One of a couple of London songs this poll needs

imago, Thursday, 18 August 2022 16:21 (one year ago) link

“royals” ick… I like “stoned at the nail salon” and “solar power” tho so i am optimistic for lorde’s 2020s output

I did dislike Royals from the start but have mostly liked all other stuff Lorde's put out so maybe I can learn to love Royals too.

That's Not Me, yeah! Cool to see JME on here.

I never much cared for Max Martin until the last 10 years or so.

lol, I went from disbelief (100-81) to depression (80-51) to short-lived semi-optimism (50-41) to shrugging off the whole thing (40-now). still following, but this list just feels so random-ass (and obv omissionary) as to be meaningless.

did you send in a ballot, rob?

marcel the shell with swag on (Whiney G. Weingarten), Thursday, 18 August 2022 17:14 (one year ago) link

did you send in a ballot, rob?

I did not, sorry! Mostly cuz I found wrapping my head around a whole decade—especially this one, where I was p deeply engaged with a variety of contemporary music across the whole decade—too daunting. Given some other recent polls I also think "my" ilm constituency has shrunk to negligibility. I know, I know: not voting makes that self-fulfilling, but I prefer to feel less invested and greet each entry with "o i c" rather than making an ass out of myself freaking out about ILM's taste horizons

rob, Thursday, 18 August 2022 17:16 (one year ago) link

tbf it's not really "ILM's taste," it's more a quirk of how these polls work and where consensus happens

rob, Thursday, 18 August 2022 17:19 (one year ago) link

Everything in this poll is embarrassing.

MarkoP, Thursday, 18 August 2022 17:23 (one year ago) link

Boys Problems being this high up makes me optimistic for some other CRJ tracks! Thought she would be practically votesplit out of here. Would kill for that jumper.

tangenttangent, Thursday, 18 August 2022 17:24 (one year ago) link

You say that like she doesn't have 4 of our top twenty lol

imago, Thursday, 18 August 2022 17:25 (one year ago) link

lol thanx rob for calling me an ass!

gathered you hadn’t voted. there were only three dancehall and one soca track nominated anyway (I don’t even think I’m exaggerating). still hoping (against hope perhaps) for the soca one to actually place. “Soco” at number one, soca at two (or the other way around) - we could have had it all, people!
