Astonished that I didn't vote for High Lights, since I nominated it in 2019 and also this year, where did it go from my list? could've been top 20 with a few more votes.

link.exposing.politically (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Thursday, 18 August 2022 11:02 (one year ago) link

"high lights" was a real surprise to see since it didn't place that high in 2019

ufo, Thursday, 18 August 2022 11:07 (one year ago) link

every time i listened to it while assembling my ballot, it climbed higher, would imagine 7 others had a similar experience

imago, Thursday, 18 August 2022 11:08 (one year ago) link

I had a long ILX hiatus and if this is against the spirit of poll roll-outs tell me to shut up but are we assuming "Black Beatles" is top 20 material?

bain4z, Thursday, 18 August 2022 11:15 (one year ago) link

We've been asked to assume nothing, but if it missed out I'd be very surprised, even though I'm no fan and I don't think RS have aged well compared to some of their peers

imago, Thursday, 18 August 2022 11:21 (one year ago) link

this is the Underworld-via-80s one isn't it

Just catching up listening now and assumed it's a sample, but can't find confirmation of this?

tangenttangent, Thursday, 18 August 2022 11:49 (one year ago) link

Adigéry may benefit from some retroactive love? Cumulative goodwill accrued across subsequent pretty interesting releases into the current decade.

(Perhaps not entirely unlike how I voted for a 2019 Dry Cleaning track that I certainly hadn't absorbed properly in 2019!)

Nag! Nag! Nag!, Thursday, 18 August 2022 12:22 (one year ago) link

The Topical Dancer album was the first Charlotte Adigéry I'd heard. TBH while the production sounds amazing I have mixed feelings about some of the lyrics on it, which I don't find as witty as most others seem to. "High Lights" is great full stop though; will have to go back and see what I've missed.

Chris L, Thursday, 18 August 2022 12:53 (one year ago) link

Missed yesterday but I'm so happy to see "The Greatest" land a spot too. I get that "Hey" and "Supernatural" were the opening salvos, but after years of having this unicorn perfect EP in the ether, for them to fire off a first single from a full LP and to have it not only match that miracle in quality but, to my ears, push it forward and surpass it ... that was probably the most thrilling musical moment of the decade for me.

Bait Kush (Eric H.), Thursday, 18 August 2022 12:54 (one year ago) link

Is Paris Strother doing anything besides being Coldplay's keyboardist atm?

imago, Thursday, 18 August 2022 12:55 (one year ago) link

I mean, if you want your Strother fix, the Coldplay track Coloratura from last year is somehow one of the better places to find it

imago, Thursday, 18 August 2022 13:02 (one year ago) link

What!? Paris Strother ended up on Coldplay!?

I abhor them and haven’t listened to them in ages but now you have piqued my interest.

✖✖✖ (Moka), Thursday, 18 August 2022 13:05 (one year ago) link

Just that one song, I gather - but yes, she did, lol

imago, Thursday, 18 August 2022 13:06 (one year ago) link

As in, she's on the whole album, but that song (the only one I've heard) is the clear highlight

imago, Thursday, 18 August 2022 13:06 (one year ago) link

I mean I’m happy for her and hope they paid her well and it opens more doors for her. Not sure if I want to listen to her in a Coldplay context as I’m afraid I might even like it.

✖✖✖ (Moka), Thursday, 18 August 2022 13:08 (one year ago) link

Just now getting to this thread because I was busy this week. Oranssi Pazuzu track was my number 3, so I'm glad that my vote was enough to push it into the top 100.

Other than that I gave a couple of points to 100 gecs, because that track is amazing. Voted for Destroyer and Weyes Blood, but not these tracks.

silverfish, Thursday, 18 August 2022 13:14 (one year ago) link

I’ll start early again, post this first 40-36 batch 20/25 mins apart so you all have time to catch up.

she has a writing credit on that one, plus there’s another song with amber strother where king are billed as featured artists alongside jacob collier. the rest can safely be ignored

Yeah, 'Itgehane' is undeniable.

emil.y, Thursday, 18 August 2022 13:20 (one year ago) link

Would be interesting and start arranging it later to compile the top 10 per year according to this decade poll and compare it to the actual top 10 on that year’s poll.

See if we have become wiser or worse.

This Pachanga Boys track is beautiful!

tangenttangent, Thursday, 18 August 2022 13:28 (one year ago) link

One of my discoveries too.

Malevolent Arugula (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 18 August 2022 13:28 (one year ago) link

Pachanga Boys actually ranked high on 2012’s poll (#12).

✖✖✖ (Moka), Thursday, 18 August 2022 13:29 (one year ago) link

Glad it still does the trick

Peggy Gou was our most surprising winner to me. I just didn't see it coming at all. It did end up growing on me a lot. I like I Go even more.

I was traveling so I missed a lot of the rollout yesterday. I see why people were commenting about the list being a bit one note, but I also liked almost everything last placed in the last couple of days. I think something like 12 of my tracks have made it so far. I'm obviously part of the problem.

Voted for Hatchie yesterday. I thought Sure would be the one to make it and considered choosing that. The bit where Stay With Me really kicks off is one of my favourite moments in music.

Also went for Don't Start Now. Dua Lipa is one of the few artists that had two songs on my list. I'm surprised it beat New Rules.

Video Games was my number one at the time, but ended up going with Ride even though I doubt any others will have voted for it.

I kind of wish I'd voted for Rihanna. Kiss It Better was one of my last cuts. Work is great too. Even the terrible Drake rap which my wife and I quote a lot. I once wrote, "If you had a twin, I'd still choose you" in an anniversary card. She's still with me despite this.

Tightrope and that Letterman performance blew me away at the time. Q.U.E.E.N got my vote though.

School Of Seven Bells popping up was a nice surprise. Big thanks to Johnny Fever for getting me into that one/them all those years ago. I think Open Your Eyes was on my list. I definitely voted for that last album.

Voted for Cool For The Summer. It's one of my favourite Girls Aloud songs.

kitchen person, Thursday, 18 August 2022 13:40 (one year ago) link

Too low on Adorn. I thought this might challenge for the top ten. I had Do You higher on my list.

kitchen person, Thursday, 18 August 2022 13:41 (one year ago) link

Do you like Adorn? Yeah?

Me too.

might be my most listened to track of the decade

nxd, Thursday, 18 August 2022 13:54 (one year ago) link

Great song even though I don't think it's in my top 10 The-Dream.

best Ready for the World homage ever

Malevolent Arugula (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 18 August 2022 13:56 (one year ago) link

I can't think of many albums I was more excited about hearing for the first time than Love King and "Yamaha" blew my head off - and it continues to do it to this day.

bain4z, Thursday, 18 August 2022 13:59 (one year ago) link

Really like how this song starts as if it had already been going on for a while, accumulating energy.

✖✖✖ (Moka), Thursday, 18 August 2022 14:00 (one year ago) link

wow truly surprised @ yamaha placing. im here for it but yeah there are dozens of better 2010 dream songs imo

johnny crunch, Thursday, 18 August 2022 14:03 (one year ago) link
