In a meeting with Nets owner Joe Tsai, Kevin Durant reiterated his trade request and informed Tsai that Tsai needs to choose between Durant or the pairing of general manager Sean Marks and coach Steve Nash, sources say.

prob easier to fire the GM and coach than find a good trade package for KD at this point

J0rdan S., Monday, 8 August 2022 18:43 (one year ago) link

nets are in a tight spot!

lag∞n, Monday, 8 August 2022 18:46 (one year ago) link

gotta think kd trying to get his gm fired will make other gms less interested in trading for him

lag∞n, Monday, 8 August 2022 18:49 (one year ago) link

He chose nash lol. And what’s his beef with marks?

Spottie, Monday, 8 August 2022 18:53 (one year ago) link

Which side leaked this to Shams do you think?

doomposting is the new composting (PBKR), Monday, 8 August 2022 18:54 (one year ago) link

KD's side, he's trying to get things moving

And what’s his beef with marks?

― Spottie, Monday, August 8, 2022 2:53 PM (two minutes ago)

that the franchise is a complete shitshow?

J0rdan S., Monday, 8 August 2022 18:57 (one year ago) link

iirc hes mad at marks for the way he treated kyrie (did not give him a max contract)

lag∞n, Monday, 8 August 2022 18:59 (one year ago) link

if all it takes to smooth everything over w/ KD is to fire steve nash (should not be an NBA head coach) and sean marks (orchestrator of a giant mess of a team) that might actually be a small price to pay

J0rdan S., Monday, 8 August 2022 19:01 (one year ago) link

read some thing that tsai already thinks the players are making him look like a bitch so idk

lag∞n, Monday, 8 August 2022 19:04 (one year ago) link

it's one thing for shams to tweet various abuses of the english language from his own account, but it's infecting his employer's accounts:

The Nets understand that Kevin Durant will continue to be resolute in his stance of a trade request.

Which teams are the potential destinations?@ShamsCharania has the latest intel: https://t.co/W3w4ZCqDcg pic.twitter.com/CH2tIPk2Pm

god I hate KD so much

k3vin k., Monday, 8 August 2022 19:37 (one year ago) link

he should retire and embrace his natural endpoint as a chump steamroller on a local sports radio show

in places all over the world, real stuff be happening (voodoo chili), Monday, 8 August 2022 19:49 (one year ago) link

Marks is not the gm tho that’s Kyrie and KD until now so all they can do is turn the mirror on themselves. Marks pulled off the rare 3 man super team that Kd wanted and they fumbled it. Marks should leave on his own accord and air all the laundry.

Spottie, Monday, 8 August 2022 21:43 (one year ago) link

he can't get credit for "pulling it off" but then take none of the blame for running a front office that wasn't able to keep it together for even one full season. at best he doesn't have enough clout to stand up to the superstars on his team and keep any semblance of chemistry going or ward off bad ideas, at worst he's made a number of decisions that have made the situation worse. either way he's unfit for the job he has... maybe he'd be fine running a small market team that would love to win 45 games and scrap its way into the play in tourney but that's not what the nets want to be

J0rdan S., Monday, 8 August 2022 22:44 (one year ago) link

a trio like KD, kyrie, and harden is always gonna have a certain level of sway and power w/in an organization but we've seen franchises *actually* pull this off before. pat riley had the juice. bob myers had the juice. sean marks does not. it all seems pretty cut and dried to me

J0rdan S., Monday, 8 August 2022 22:46 (one year ago) link

those three guys on the same team was just fundamentally a bad idea

lag∞n, Monday, 8 August 2022 23:11 (one year ago) link

kyrie on any team might just be a bad idea

lag∞n, Monday, 8 August 2022 23:11 (one year ago) link

both of those things may be true

J0rdan S., Monday, 8 August 2022 23:26 (one year ago) link

it seems pretty clear that the thing that broke them apart was kyrie not getting vaxed and maybe that fact alone soured harden on the whole thing and there was nothing anyone could do but i also think it's obvious that the front office allowing him to come back and play road games was a catastrophic decision that created a complete circus around the team and made harden want to get out asap. they took a strong public stance against kyrie playing and then buckled under the first bit of roster strain, they were weak and short sighted and couldn't stand strong as a franchise. if you break that easy you're never gonna be able to make it work w/ multiple superstars.

J0rdan S., Monday, 8 August 2022 23:29 (one year ago) link

sean marks traded a first round pick for royce o neal

J0rdan S., Monday, 8 August 2022 23:30 (one year ago) link

Our front office and coaching staff have my support. We will make decisions in the best interest of the Brooklyn Nets.

sean marks traded a first round pick for royce o neal

I still don’t get why they did this. I mean he’s a nice player and kind of a great fit for a theoretically healthy and available nets roster. But who thought they’d have that

Matt Armstrong, Tuesday, 9 August 2022 23:57 (one year ago) link

Furthermore, the first-year head coach said one wrinkle he will implement and stick with is having the offense run through Anthony Davis, and James concurred, sources said. The team has been encouraged with Davis’ offseason progression and believe he’ll be in optimum shape to avoid serious injuries and carry a heavier load.

The team is also hopeful for a corner-3 shooting percentage bump from Russell Westbrook next season, sources said.

all these instances of stars bailing on their teams mid-contract in the past 5 years feels like ruinously bad optics for the league. it used to happen occasionally but not like this
