I didn't get it. I initially went a hundred days without failing, and ever since my streak ended I've been reckless.

yeah I missed this one too but my streak ended when I forgot one day last week
before that the last one I missed was VIVID which, lets face it, is a bullshit word. I couldn't even muster a guess
― frogbs, Tuesday, 2 August 2022 20:46 (one year ago) link
My most recent streak ended with CRAMP the other day, because I ended up with CRA _ _ on like turn 3, and it turns out there are a lot of words that start with CRA.

Jowly isn't an adverb, it's an adjective, surely?. I guess jowlily would be an adverb, "...he bloviated jowlily".
I got it on the last guess and it didn't seem like an unreasonable word.

And even if it was, why would that exclude it from inclusion in this game, as long as it is a real, valid word?
― Hans Holbein (Chinchilla Volapük), Wednesday, 3 August 2022 06:45 (one year ago) link
1. the word in question is an adverb though2. the game has established an expectation of not using words like adverbs
― ✖, Wednesday, 3 August 2022 06:51 (one year ago) link
I wasn’t aware of said expectation, and had no problem guessing this completely valid word (a different adverb from the one Chinchilla mentioned tho)

It isn't. Can you provide an example of a sentence where it acts as an adverb?
He gazed down at his porridge and mused upon it jowly.???
That doesn't work.
It's an adjective that describes someone with prominent jowls. It is not an adverb.
It's an adjective!

Drat, I must apologize because I somehow forgot between 7:30 AM and 11:30 PM that I actually failed this wordle and was just going with my last guess. Therefore I feel pretty stupid regarding my last several posts.
That said, I do not protest coyly as a valid word in the slightest.
Sorry!
― Hans Holbein (Chinchilla Volapük), Wednesday, 3 August 2022 07:34 (one year ago) link
before yesterday there was only one adverb in the 400+ answers so far, "badly" from november of last year. "gaily" was once on the list but seems to have been removed or moved. i'd say that's enough to set an expectation
― ✖, Wednesday, 3 August 2022 07:38 (one year ago) link
ofc i'm referring only to -ly adverbs which is what people are talking about - the word list generally avoids words that modify base words i.e. plurals

Well done with the first-word guess! Is that always your starting word? I rotate between 5 or 6 starting words, and my fear of course is that I won't use the right one on the day that one of them is the actual word.

we have a group of players and last place player picks starting word for next day. so we typically have different starting words which keeps the game a bit fresher.

i just had a look at phrazle, which is identical to worlde except it's a phrase not a word. you wouldn't know it from the instructions, which have been written by an a.i. or a moron or both:
As a logic puzzle game, Phrazle requires players to have excellent analytical skills. In Phrazle, there are no set rules for the open-ended play and format. You are encouraged to come up with your own rules or simply improvise. The key to winning the game is identifying word and phrase patterns. Four random words are given in each round's set. You have a certain amount of time to write down as many phrases as you can using these four words. The game will provide some facts before each round so you can guess the context. These won't affect how you play, but they can help you guess what other players are trying to do.In fact, you will have six attempts to guess sentence patterns and phrases. Each guess must include only words that are legitimate and use all spaces. The color of the tiles will change to indicate how close your guesses are to the correct answer after each one:💠 Green: The letter is in the first word and in the correct position.💠 Yellow: Although it is in the first word, the letter is in the incorrect location.💠 Purple: The letter is in the phrase but not in the second word.💠 Gray: Letters are not in the phrase.Tips And TricksIn every game, the rules are one of the core factors that make the game attractive. With Phrazle we will give you examples to help you understand the rules and how to play better:The word must have at least two parts. When you come up with a word to look up, simplify it and think of the words closest to you. For instance, a word like "fruit" has two components in Phrazle. The term "fruit" is what we often conceive of as a whole, while the word "u" is what we define in Phrazle. Each word in a sentence must appear at least once. One of the most crucial regulations is this one. You're not playing the same round like everyone else if you break it. If you don't follow this rule, you can still use common words, but you must use at least one Phrazled word in your phrases.Try using some of the more complex techniques you first discovered now that you are familiar with the game's rules. For instance, try flipping words or making sentences using synonyms or antonyms. Breaking the guidelines you learned above if you're seeking more complex techniques. For instance, you may still utilize Phrazled words in a sentence even though they don't exist in it. Likewise, you may employ synonyms for terms, such as "antidisestablishmentarianism."
