The Phoenix Suns have matched the Indiana Pacers’ four-year, $133 million maximum offer sheet on Deandre Ayton, sources tell @TheAthletic @Stadium. Ayton stays in Phoenix.— Shams Charania (@ShamsCharania) July 15, 2022

so again we’re left to wonder…… what was the point of all this?
if they were just gonna pay him this much or near this much it doenst make sense to burn a whole season and/or burn the bridge with the player. amateur hour over here in the valley.
― Spottie, Friday, 15 July 2022 00:22 (one year ago) link
they continue to give the impression that they have no idea what they’re doing.
― call all destroyer, Friday, 15 July 2022 00:28 (one year ago) link
i mean that recent profile of their front office gave me the impression that this is the alternative medicine/essential oils version of franchise management so cheers to discovering truth and wellness in the valley of life
― Clay, Friday, 15 July 2022 00:34 (one year ago) link
The Suns made clear throughout free agency that the franchise intended to bring Ayton back – and were committed to spend in order to continue competing for a title around All-NBA star Devin Booker, Chris Paul and Ayton. Phoenix now goes approximately $15M into the tax. https://t.co/PCVHYtk6OH— Shams Charania (@ShamsCharania) July 15, 2022
lol did they now

normal stuff
― lag∞n, Friday, 15 July 2022 01:15 (one year ago) link
if they had just maxxed him out last year then they would be able to trade him now perhaps for kevin durant
― lag∞n, Friday, 15 July 2022 01:16 (one year ago) link
yeah somebody was always going to max him on an offer sheet, obviously there are things about him that make that max a little scary but the suns know more about him than anyone and seem to have kind of played themselves.
― call all destroyer, Friday, 15 July 2022 01:39 (one year ago) link
it never made any sense. this was always going to be the outcome.
― J0rdan S., Friday, 15 July 2022 01:59 (one year ago) link
Wolves just signed Austin Rivers to a one year minimum

this deal when it finally gets done is going to be ludicrous
REPORT: The Jazz-Knicks deal was “close” on Tuesday night, but the Knicks ended up declining. The Jazz reportedly wanted Immanuel Quickley, Obi Toppin, Quentin Grimes, Miles McBride, and 6 1st-round picks. 🤯🤯🤯(via @tjonesonthenba) pic.twitter.com/KxUOdLfsZx— Legion Hoops (@LegionHoops) July 15, 2022

all so the mitchell brunson backcourt can give up one million points a game
― lag∞n, Friday, 15 July 2022 14:16 (one year ago) link
Yah that is not a great pairing
― Spottie, Friday, 15 July 2022 14:52 (one year ago) link
plus barrett playing the 3 and randle at the 4? lol. prob one of the worst defensive line ups you could come up with on paper for a team aspiring to be good

don't do it! reconsider! read some liter-ature on the subject!

the devil on my shoulder is saying "thibs won't play the young guys anyway"
― in places all over the world, real stuff be happening (voodoo chili), Friday, 15 July 2022 15:32 (one year ago) link
smh
none of their young guys will prob ever make an all star game, clinging to quickley and quentin grimes etc has strong “this franchise never has good young players so we’re going to overvalue any draft pick with more than a pulse” vibes to me. maybe there’s an opportunity cost aspect of throwing them all in one trade & not being able to flip them later but if the jazz want those guys i’d prob just throw them in and then try and talk them down on the picks
― J0rdan S., Friday, 15 July 2022 15:49 (one year ago) link
jazz are prob asking for those guys trying to get more picks
― lag∞n, Friday, 15 July 2022 15:53 (one year ago) link
that is fair, just feels to me that if you're gonna sacrifice young and cheap depth and a buttload of future picks you should do it for a player who is better than donovan mitchell.
the market is the market, i guess
― in places all over the world, real stuff be happening (voodoo chili), Friday, 15 July 2022 16:00 (one year ago) link
not that mitchell isn't good or anything, but having the smallest backcourt in the nba in a division with the celtics and raptors is not gonna work imo
you’re bringing logic to a multi year pursuit of a star by the knicks front office!
― J0rdan S., Friday, 15 July 2022 16:05 (one year ago) link
lol
― lag∞n, Friday, 15 July 2022 16:19 (one year ago) link
that lineup is hilarious i need to see it now. jazz gonna come out of the rudy/dono pairing with like 14 picks and prospects. doing it right. they can also flip like 6 other rotation guys for picks or whatever at the deadline (bojan, conley, beasley, gay, clarkson, pat bev)
― Spottie, Friday, 15 July 2022 16:36 (one year ago) link
Danny likes picks.

― in places all over the world, real stuff be happening (voodoo chili), Friday, 15 July 2022 22:04 (one year ago) link
keeping them both is the right play imo. they have a ton of talent between KD/kyrie/simmons that they’re virtually assured of not being able to replicate in the next 5 years via trades. KD will never hold out. just run it back

I was listening to the zach Lowe podcast today and he was discussing grimes, toppin, 4 firsts and 3 swaps as a sort of median proposal, which is just hard for me to fathom

I think the knicks are going to “set the market” so to speak
― k3vin k., Saturday, 16 July 2022 00:55 (one year ago) link
compared to the gobert trade that would be pretty light!
― J0rdan S., Saturday, 16 July 2022 00:57 (one year ago) link

BIG BODYYYYYYYY
― terence trent d'ilfer (m bison), Saturday, 16 July 2022 04:10 (one year ago) link
Cad my take is that his agent has probably been telling him he’s gotta suck it up and buy into a new role cos the market is telling him he’s done. And his best shot to rehab is stay w the lakers and accept a new role vs getting traded and bought out and be on his 5th team in 5 years and have the stain of being bought out. Russ prob too prideful to accept that and would rather get traded and play for a crap team putting up empty stats.
