lol yeah kds not getting traded for herro and strus
― lag∞n, Tuesday, July 12, 2022 4:25 PM (nine minutes ago) bookmarkflaglink
hah yeah man no way jordan. if bam isnt in on it the nets arent doing it. theyre gonna hold til they get at LEAST one all star level player back.

yeah daryl morey played this game too and he ended up having to attach seth curry and two first round picks to get back james harden

this is what a heat trade looks like

that was ben simmons tho xp
― Spottie, Tuesday, 12 July 2022 23:44 (one year ago) link
its also a very reasonable deal for the james harden that exists in moreys mind
― lag∞n, Tuesday, 12 July 2022 23:45 (one year ago) link
heir other problem is that their model as a glamor market team is to be in the star hunting business and because of that they will prob need to play nice w/ him. you can't really be playing hardball w/ stars and then be trying to convince other stars that you're the best place for them
― J0rdan S., Tuesday, July 12, 2022 4:14 PM (five minutes ago) bookmarkflaglink
i think tsai might be rethinking their stance on how they team build going forward.

the heat aren't trading bam to get KD
― J0rdan S., Tuesday, 12 July 2022 23:53 (one year ago) link
i mean i wouldnt
― lag∞n, Tuesday, 12 July 2022 23:56 (one year ago) link
but they would be getting back a very similar player in ben simmons just with heat culture levels set to zero
― lag∞n, Tuesday, 12 July 2022 23:57 (one year ago) link
they could consider it a challenge
― lag∞n, Wednesday, 13 July 2022 00:00 (one year ago) link
i think for the heat the calculus is pretty simple. if they're in a bidding war w/ phoenix they won't have to trade bam bcuz phoenix won't be putting a comparable player on the table and so it's just about whether they're willing to put in more picks than phoenix. and if it's an open market then other teams will be able to put together better packages and they'll just keep their assets for mitchell or whatever else
― J0rdan S., Wednesday, 13 July 2022 00:04 (one year ago) link
considering the suns have one more pick available to trade than the heat and they famously do not value the draft pretty sure theyre winning that one
― lag∞n, Wednesday, 13 July 2022 00:06 (one year ago) link
3 firsts and the pupu platter might get it done for mitchell but i kinda think not
― lag∞n, Wednesday, 13 July 2022 00:07 (one year ago) link
the knicks have a ton of picks they can trade and are rumored to love him
― lag∞n, Wednesday, 13 July 2022 00:09 (one year ago) link
unless the jazz are in love with herro or something which i guess is not impossible
also you just gotta feel better getting knicks picks than heat picks
― lag∞n, Wednesday, 13 July 2022 00:11 (one year ago) link
correct. the knicks make way more sense than the heat on a number of levels it just depends on whether mitchell can credibly force his way to one team, my guess is probably not. i also think ainge would try and rip riley's beating heart out of his chest in that trade so idk
― J0rdan S., Wednesday, 13 July 2022 00:11 (one year ago) link
lol those guys have hated each other for longer than half the world has been alive, you can only tip your cap
― lag∞n, Wednesday, 13 July 2022 00:13 (one year ago) link
going back to the nets -- i think it was nate dnucan who pointed out that the nets obligations in 2023 and 2025 are pick swaps w/ the rocekts who will def be a bottom 5 team next year and will prob be a lottery team again in 2025. so there is a path for the nets to give up on this idea of "competing" with an "all star level player" and instead just get a mega picks haul for KD, draft an elite prospect next year's draft and then go from there armed w/ whoever that is plus whatever picks they get. getting bounced in the first round w/ siakam and van vleet and getting the 20th pick just feels like beating your head against a wall, to me
― J0rdan S., Wednesday, 13 July 2022 00:15 (one year ago) link
yeah those picks they sent to houston are a sunk cost they should just take the best deal they can get, but there is prob some urge to save face particularly considering the celtics just went to the finals with a team built on ripping them off, but then i guess the reasonable part is they dont have the usual incentive to be bad bottoming out isnt as good as it usually is
― lag∞n, Wednesday, 13 July 2022 00:18 (one year ago) link
if they could get a very young good player or two guys with some sort of potential thats prob best where siakim and van vleet are both already 28
― lag∞n, Wednesday, 13 July 2022 00:23 (one year ago) link
i don't feel like there is a team out there that has a very good young player they would be willing to give up and who is also close enough to contending that trading for KD makes sense. the closest i can come up with is jarren jackson + desmond bane but i feel like the grizzlies wouldn't actually do that
― J0rdan S., Wednesday, 13 July 2022 00:27 (one year ago) link
to me the realistic "all star" level players for KD are, like, siakam and brandon ingram. and at that point i'd prob just go the mega picks haul route
― J0rdan S., Wednesday, 13 July 2022 00:30 (one year ago) link
i would too but that route gets sean marks fired in the next year or two, unless tsai is totally on board with rebuilding this thing again and getting back to a nice 45-win team that has a little buzz and wins a play-in game.
― call all destroyer, Wednesday, 13 July 2022 00:34 (one year ago) link
my point being it is very hard to prognosticate this since we don't really know how the nets see their team in a post-KD world
― call all destroyer, Wednesday, 13 July 2022 00:35 (one year ago) link
yeah that's true xp. tsai is definitely in that new ownership phase where he will pick the shortest but most destructive route to perceived relevance

its has been for a long time tbf, but mostly seemed to track to the legitimate growth of the leagues, then recently the prices just went nuts which you gotta think will level off at least at some point, unless people want to be paying ten billion for the thunder or whatever
― lag∞n, Wednesday, 13 July 2022 00:59 (one year ago) link
i personally would rather buy ten billion snickers bars

Should be 50-50 ownership group of J0rdan S. and Matt Armstrong.
