And oh my god the one with the Dr. Katz kid is astonishing. Moltar and Zorak's kidnapping video is tremendous. "Just don't touch my TV, OK, or you're ---king DEAD!"

SG: "Where?"

Zorak: "Hattiesburg."

Revived in honour of Bravo showing Adult Swim 'toons in the UK (every fucken night, people!).

My head says ATHF, but my heart says The Brak Show. The best bits of Brak are better than the best of ATHF but ATHF is more consistent. The episode of The Brak Show with the rap battle is superb, especially Thundercleese's rock-rap that references Conan The Barbarian. "Until I hear the lamentations of my enemies' women", had me in stitches.

I predict I will be the only person who says "Tom Goes to the Mayor" for his/her OPO.

I'd like to say Tom Goes To The Mayor, and I will, but only because Home Movies is cancelled. But if we're talking any show that's been on [as] then it's gotta be Home Movies.

Jouster (Jouster), Sunday, 9 July 2006 09:47 (seventeen years ago) link

Because the episodes are new, and the only ones I'm bothering to DL, it's Venture Brothers. But I checked ATHF v3 out of the library, and am enjoying the ones I missed a lot.

"Tom Goes To The Mayor" is not my favorite show in the world.

I'm not taking the ATHF quiz because I already know I'm Frylock.

Jesus Dan (Dan Perry), Sunday, 9 July 2006 13:40 (seventeen years ago) link

Say, is there a Venture Brothers character quiz out there?

Fuck it, never mind. I'd only end up as the tall henchman.

I think Frisky Dingo is the funniest show on TV besides 30 Rock, but as a 21-year-old fan of comics, rap and marijuana I'm probably in the show's target demographic.

I feel like I only catch the actual AS cartoons occasionally now and just end up bitching about how it used to be better. To me, it's going to be really hard to beat the first few seasons with Aqua Teen / Sealab / Home Movies / Brak Show / Space Ghost.

mh. (mike h.), Monday, 15 January 2007 04:57 (seventeen years ago) link

Although if I had to pick only one of the somewhat newer crop, it'd probably be Robot Chicken.

My current sigline should make it clear to many of you, but for the rest let me spell it out:

METALOCALYPSE!

(not as great as VB, actually, but it is fresher in my mind)

xp Robot Chicken is great because since every skit is about 5 seconds long you never have to change the channel when a shitty one comes on. I wish SNL was like that.

The Boondocks, Cartoon Network's witty, controversial series, won't return this year as expected, says show creator Aaron McGruder.

The second season of the animated series, based on The Boondocks' comic strip, was given a late 2006/winter 2007 date to return to Cartoon Network's late-night block, Adult Swim, after its hugely successful first season (it was the highest-rated series premiere in Cartoon Network history).

Network execs, in fact, bumped the number of The Boondocks' episodes up from 15 to 20 - which seems to have contributed to the delay.

"Our production schedule is really, really long," says McGruder, who's publicizing the first-season DVD.

"We're halfway through the writing and just getting under way with the animation."

McGruder now says fans should look for the series to return in March.

[ . . . ]

"It's really hard," [McGruder] says. "We're working more and more with artists overseas. We now have a Japanese anime studio named Madhouse to help us out.

"I was happy with a lot of season one, but I thought a lot of it could look better. We're really passionate artists.

"The people working with me on the show are phenomenal, phenomenal artists and they really care about getting it right."

OPO? I've had the Pavement episode of Space Ghost on my TiVo since the week I got it three and a half years ago . . . so that one.

"That music you played was very bad! You're fired! Get me the Beatles!"

A Radio Picture (Rrrickey), Monday, 15 January 2007 15:48 (seventeen years ago) link

This happening after Aaron McGruder quit doing the strip supposedly so he could concentrate on the animated version kind of sucks for Boondocks fans.

x-post

mh. (mike h.), Monday, 15 January 2007 22:14 (seventeen years ago) link

Then again The Boondocks is probably the only show on Adult Swim that isn't done in crappy flash animation, so it probably takes a lot longer than the standard AS show.

Venture Brothers.

Is Harvey Birdman still on/funny?

Jordan (Jordan), Monday, 15 January 2007 22:22 (seventeen years ago) link

I love Venture Brothers to an unreasonable degree. How can you not love any show that features Klaus Nomi as an evil henchman?

Harvey Birdman is done.

N.i.c.o.l.e (Ex Leon), Monday, 15 January 2007 22:23 (seventeen years ago) link

I was about to be all "wtf Boondocks is incredible wtf" but then I remember how I've never found Venture Bros funny even though lots of people like it and then I also remember diff'rent strokes for diff'rent people or whatever.

RIP Birdman :(

Jordan (Jordan), Monday, 15 January 2007 22:25 (seventeen years ago) link

I went as Harvey Birdman at a Halloween gig once. Playing drums while wearing a wool blazer, a mask, and 6 ft wings kind of sucked incredible ass.

Frisky Dingo is fucking excellent.

HI DERE, Monday, 5 March 2007 18:21 (seventeen years ago) link

I found another Adult Swim show I cannot stand that all my friends love: Squidbillies. Just. Not. Funny.

Ever.

nickalicious, Monday, 5 March 2007 18:31 (seventeen years ago) link

I think I only actually ever watch Adult Swim anymore for Futurama or bizarre anime that I find compelling but will never understand (a la Paranoia Agent).

nickalicious, Monday, 5 March 2007 18:32 (seventeen years ago) link

I love Squidbillies so much, especially the sheriff. That guy's voice is so familiar...

Rock Hardy, Monday, 5 March 2007 18:33 (seventeen years ago) link

Paranoia Agent is fucking excellent rught up until they explain what's going on, at which point it becomes incredibly irritating.

HI DERE, Monday, 5 March 2007 18:34 (seventeen years ago) link

I don't get Adult Swim but I agree w/ hi dere re: Paranoia Agent is good until the explanation (although the akira-esque explosion of goopy pain was pretty awesome, and Susumu Hirasawa (sp?) is a god of music)

Will M., Monday, 5 March 2007 18:38 (seventeen years ago) link

The best ep of Paranoia Agent was the suicide club one!!! It was so sweet and silly.

nickalicious, Monday, 5 March 2007 18:39 (seventeen years ago) link
