Harbl I am tempted to get the berry coffee on my way to work this morning just to see if it's as disgusting as I assume it will be.

I've never had turkish coffee but it scares me more than mint coffee.

I got the berry coffee. Am regretting it.

ppl who drink coffee with soy milk: do you find that it separates really easily? i feel like unless it's the perfectly balanced blend, this happens all the time. it's annoying. not as annoying as separated milk/cream, though.

could be the temp, try rice milk

blobfish russian (harbl), Thursday, 30 July 2009 18:30 (fourteen years ago) link

my percolator is dying. I ended up pouring the hot water directly into the part where the grounds go and let it filter through, and it made really good coffee. I realized that the percolator hadn't made really good coffee in a while.

I just realised I've been spending baot $30 on takeaway coffees per week. It's worth it tbh.

wilter, Wednesday, 5 August 2009 23:15 (fourteen years ago) link

We get free coffee at work, which I keep trying to convince myself is a really great employee perk, but it's like drinking boiled dishwater. It's the worst coffee I've ever had. And it's kinda weak, I like my coffee like a mule kick to the skull. I think I'm joining Wilter in this takeaway habit.

There's so much temptation with there being a Starbucks right downstairs! Their long blacks give me the awesomest caffeine high. I think I need an espresso machine.

°⌉ 3⊥∀N (╓abies), Sunday, 9 August 2009 13:56 (fourteen years ago) link

starbucks? really?
seriously, make your own.

tehresa, Monday, 10 August 2009 02:41 (fourteen years ago) link

lol yeah. I only get long blacks though, if I could make espresso at home I wouldn't be fuckin with 'em.

wilter, Monday, 10 August 2009 05:10 (fourteen years ago) link

tehresa, Monday, 10 August 2009 05:10 (fourteen years ago) link

wilter, Monday, 10 August 2009 05:11 (fourteen years ago) link

Yeah it's a double over hot water.

°⌉ 3⊥∀N (╓abies), Monday, 10 August 2009 05:17 (fourteen years ago) link

so like an americano.

tehresa, Monday, 10 August 2009 05:27 (fourteen years ago) link

wiki shite:

A long black is a style of coffee, most commonly found in Australia and New Zealand, made by pulling a double-shot of espresso over hot water (usually the water is also heated by the espresso machine). A long black is similar to an Americano, which is made by adding hot water to espresso shots, but it retains the crema and is less voluminous, therefore more strongly flavoured.

The order in which a long black is made (water first, espresso second) is important; reversing the steps will destroy the crema from the espresso shots.

Short black is an Australasian synonym for the basic espresso.

i don't like milky coffees, they often taste bad to me, i like long blacks, no sugar.

I mostly go for flat whites tbh, but yuh short or long blacks are the safest option if u don't know if the coffee at a place is shitty or not

yeah that's exactly what i have

harbl, Monday, 21 September 2009 22:59 (fourteen years ago) link

what's the problem you're having?

omar little, Monday, 21 September 2009 23:00 (fourteen years ago) link

i get some coffee ground to dust and other coffee like the size of 1/4 bean. in the same batch. and i'm not putting too much in. it wouldn't be so bad if it was drip but it comes through the mesh of the french press thing when it's fine like that.

harbl, Monday, 21 September 2009 23:01 (fourteen years ago) link

please help omar

harbl, Monday, 21 September 2009 23:03 (fourteen years ago) link

I've never used a coffee grinder. Does buying whole beans and using one really make it that much better?

\(^o\) (/o^)/ (ENBB), Monday, 21 September 2009 23:04 (fourteen years ago) link

with a french press, you are "supposed to" use the coarsest grind ... i know my grinder doesn't have any settings. There are fancy supermarkets that have grinders with different settings. I love these things.

my other display name is a controversial mod edit (sarahel), Monday, 21 September 2009 23:06 (fourteen years ago) link

i think it would because i buy them whole and grind them in the store and it's always best the first 2 days or so, and that's what experts say. but no it's not that bad for the rest of the 1.5-2 weeks a pound lasts me. dunno.

harbl, Monday, 21 September 2009 23:07 (fourteen years ago) link

i think i could figure out how to make it grind coarse (i usually just counted to 6 or 7) if the grind was consistent. but it's not.

harbl, Monday, 21 September 2009 23:09 (fourteen years ago) link

yeah, my advice would be to take it to the store and stealthily use their machines.

*grabs toolbox*

omar little, Monday, 21 September 2009 23:10 (fourteen years ago) link

i've never had problems with mine, i usually make about four cups in the morning so i scoop out about four spoonfuls of coffee beans and grind them for 6-7 seconds.

omar little, Monday, 21 September 2009 23:11 (fourteen years ago) link

does it sound normal when it's grinding? any weird noises?
