Brandon Lewis has gone, I'd heard of him at least.

Apparently he hasn’t?!

Osama bin Chinese (gyac), Wednesday, 6 July 2022 20:00 (one year ago) link

Extraordinary

Nadhim Zahawi today told Boris Johnson he should resign

Tomorrow he's agreed to launch a new economic plan alongside Boris Johnson in a bid to shore up his leadership according to @SkyNews

Today is bewildering by any metric

𝔠𝔞𝔢𝔨 (caek), Wednesday, 6 July 2022 20:24 (one year ago) link

He'd have been better off keeping Gove where he could see him, instead of sending him off to squat in his lair and plan, plan, plan

I mean Gove should have resigned and heaped more pressure on, idk why he would say to Johnson to go and then expect to keep his job.

Guessing he’s going to sack Priti next.

Michael Gove has been sacked by Boris Johnson.

A No 10 source told the BBC: "You cannot have a snake who is not with you on any of the big arguments who then gleefully briefs the press that he has called for the leader to go." https://t.co/Iv4swpH9T5

— i newspaper (@theipaper) July 6, 2022

lmao at calling him a snake BUT HE WAS A SNAKE THE WHOLE TIME BORIS???

giving Gove the boot is at least one of his top three moments as PM, of course it's funny. Well at least for a few minutes.

I am trying to get good American poster felicity, who knows a lot about uk politics, to post on here.

I was saying how good this thread is especially when shit is happening, or as she put it “come for the lemons, stay for the snakes”.

He should try and do a version of the 6th Jan riots.

MP very close to PM says: "It’s over.. [but] he thinks in classical terms, for him there is no greater honour in resigning than being killed... if you are going to die, go down fighting"

Lol @ this nonsense.

Outside of the political fun, this is so depressing. Most if not all the ministers in the levelling up department have gone. There’s great big gaping policy black holes everywhere. God alone knows what’s going on with the chancellor. We’re effectively without a government

So when I saw the footage of the last cabinet meeting and thought I saw the late Brian Clough sitting there it was actually Simon Hart. That's cleared that up at least.

Eavis Has Left the Building (Tom D.), Wednesday, 6 July 2022 22:23 (one year ago) link

Eavis Has Left the Building (Tom D.), Wednesday, 6 July 2022 22:35 (one year ago) link

the longer he stays, the more damage to the party, which is great stuff. a shame there's nobody much better out there to take advantage of this, but you can't have it all I suppose.

Sudden Birdnet Thus (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Wednesday, 6 July 2022 22:39 (one year ago) link

I do not watch programmes like NEWSNIGHT and PESTON, but tonight I did, and on PESTON the Braverman one, still in post, said live on air that the PM should go and then stated that she would stand to be PM.

The staginess, obvious perhaps, is worth noting - she must have planned to do this once she agreed to go on the programme; more than that, that's probably why she went on the programme; more than that, the programme makers knew that.

There's a lot of Boorstin's 'pseudo-event' around. THE DAY TODAY'S artificial war was a fictional example I suppose, nearly 30 years ago.

I add that the moment ms Braverman was asked about standing for PM she changed her mode and started saying 'I love this country ... my parents came here as refugees' -- ie: into a crass, fake, smarmy campaigning mode that she did not seem comfortable with herself. I'd say 'It felt very American' but I suppose we are now proving bad enough at this garbage ourselves.

The programme then announced that ms Braverman's interview on the programme had had a big impact on Twitter.

the pinefox, Wednesday, 6 July 2022 22:39 (one year ago) link

Braverman’s “I’ll be honest with you Robert - yes I would. I love this country” was absolute bliss. God I hope he was watching that. Xp

Low-hanging fruit here and I know U.S. politics is just baffling from outside, but I still rofl'd.

Every tweet out of the UK right now is like "Daniel Waddingham has turned in his Mustn't Slip. That brings the number of resignations to 2,742 this afternoon. Boris Johnson has sacked the Minister of Beans on Toast, but refuses to personally step down."

— Ben Collins (@oneunderscore__) July 6, 2022

Bravermann (than I) chucked hat in on Peston, etc as said above, went on about fighting against Wokeness and people getting fired for expressing opinions etc.

I guess that's where her priorities lie.

She might win, if nobody else runs for office.
