Better be juicy this Javid jabber

Just before #PMQs. Opposition benches packed to the rafters. Tory benches half empty. Whips, reportedly, stalking corridors trying to herd MPs in. ~AA

send him there keep him there

Conservative MP Tim Loughton asks Boris Johnson: "Does the Prime Minister think there are any circumstances in which he should resign?"

Johnson replies that he would resign if he couldn't defend the Ukrainian people. #PMQs

more respect for the five-on-one-letter tactic than the one-an-hour tactic

it's all garbage tho

Peter Bone and Michael Fabricant are ready to take on as many portfolios as Johnson wishes to give them

Critique of the Goth Programme (Neil S), Wednesday, 6 July 2022 13:47 (one year ago) link

"it's all garbage"

was just talking to an NHS worker on the subject of diminishing mental health services and she said pretty much the same about this nonsense. People that see vital services getting shredded and their job becoming harder and more futile know it won't make any difference. Especially as there is no alternative.

calzino, Wednesday, 6 July 2022 13:51 (one year ago) link

but gazza... chicken... fishing rod... number 10 etc XD XD XD

Led By Honkies (Bananaman Begins), Wednesday, 6 July 2022 13:58 (one year ago) link

Hard to laugh at the "banter" from crap centrist voices when it is partly their fucking fault for not getting behind the one chance we had at someone decent getting into power.

boxedjoy, Wednesday, 6 July 2022 14:13 (one year ago) link

someone has made a screenshot thread of countless posh liberals making the same Gazza joke! They are the fucking worst.

calzino, Wednesday, 6 July 2022 14:15 (one year ago) link

Like yeah it's nice to see some folk drop out but they're all going to land in cushy consulting jobs, meanwhile over a decade of austerity means my local authority is relying on charity organisations to provide essential mental health services. It's all theatre and feels so removed from any real consequences now.

boxedjoy, Wednesday, 6 July 2022 14:15 (one year ago) link

Otm, but ofc it’s ok for us to do it 🤗

Osama bin Chinese (gyac), Wednesday, 6 July 2022 14:16 (one year ago) link

Be funny if he scorched the whole thing but there is nothing that parliament can offer to people beyond the abyss.

Well-placed source convinced Boris Johnson won’t quit, even if the 22 change the rules, and he loses a VONC.

Instead, he’ll claim he has a mandate from 14m voters, and will threaten to force an election - but not before deselecting everyone who voted against him.

Asked if he accepts what Simon McDonald said in his letter yesterday, Johnson says he does.

He says he was briefed about the allegations against Pincher when he was a Foreign Office minister. But they could not find a record of that in No 10.

Q: But you would remember an allegation of sexual assault?

Johnson says that is not who he would characterise the allegation.

no shit

nashwan, Wednesday, 6 July 2022 15:42 (one year ago) link

Suave.

Wow. @BorisJohnson finally confirmed something he has previously ducked repeatedly. Asked by @Meg_HillierMP whether he met ex-KGB spy Alexander Lebedev without officials when he was Foreign Secretary he replies: "I probably did."

Eavis Has Left the Building (Tom D.), Wednesday, 6 July 2022 15:52 (one year ago) link

**Nadhim Zahawi** is in the delegation of cabinet ministers about to tell the prime minister to go, I'm told

it's funny that Zahawi is presumably going to break Javid's record for shortest term as chancellor (I guess this was going to be the case anyway, but if he can manage under 24 hours then that's probably unbeatable for the foreseeable future, right?)

soref, Wednesday, 6 July 2022 15:53 (one year ago) link

actually, I think Iain Macleod was chancellor for a shorter time than Javid, but still over a day though

soref, Wednesday, 6 July 2022 15:55 (one year ago) link

Think Zahawi will be in the role until they can elect a new PM, so idk a few weeks probably.

Sudden Birdnet Thus (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Wednesday, 6 July 2022 15:57 (one year ago) link

I was thinking if Johnson manages to cling on for a bit longer and replaces Zahawi with someone else who's not calling for him to resign, but that's looking less likely now I suppose
