no one throws mouldy flour at bands any more

the infamous neph drug bust after a cleaner spotted bags of white flour in their hotel room was a classic

calzino, Saturday, 2 July 2022 10:21 (one year ago) link

i think earlier in this thread people have talked about the strangeness of the promo copy for these bands but "Transforming their influences into their own originality, this night was one to remember for some time to come” is a delightful word salad

The piano and sax line makes it sound more Springsteen to me than your usual lads group. This tune is better than many things posted on this thread.

earlnash, Monday, 4 July 2022 13:52 (one year ago) link

It's kinda like a Bosstones song.

Bosstones here to teach the Brits a thing or two about "swagger"

If you'd have told me to picture the Bosstones, I would've imagined more hats

this is my incredibly annoying dickhead cousin who used to wear hats all the time until his wealthy gf paid for a hair transplant and then the hats mysteriously became less frequent. Next time I see him I'll tell him there is no cure for spiritual baldness and his repertoire of Beatles/Oasis/Coldplay covers is fucking lame!

That makes it sound worse tbh.

eight months pass...

i believe that calboa is just some dumb quasi-acronym of the bandmembers' nicknames etc but i did briefly think "this is a more interesting direction for self-styling to take -- is it a place or a flower or what?"

(there is a plant genus sometimes known as calboa, tho more usually as ipomoea: the latter includes morning glory, moonflower, sweet potato and water spinach… but i don't think this is what these feebs were going for)

mark s, Friday, 17 March 2023 12:41 (one year ago) link

I think theyre just Doherty aligned rather than the usual Oasis etc

The boysiness remains the same tho

satori enabler (Noodle Vague), Friday, 17 March 2023 13:01 (one year ago) link

Calboa are a four-piece band from Hull who started life as the bedroom project of singer-songwriter Callum Blakeston, an affably rakish fellow with an easy laugh, a dandy hat and the look of a young Richard Ashcroft.

satori enabler (Noodle Vague), Friday, 17 March 2023 17:33 (one year ago) link

two amorphous band blokes from Hull, both po-faced twats with sunglasses hanging from the necks of their t-shirts for a band pic: absolutely no right to exist.

some semi-famous preening actor nob at Cannes doing the same: annoying, but still an acceptable element of poseur etiquette rules.

sorry, I didn't make these rules.

calzino, Friday, 17 March 2023 21:41 (one year ago) link

yeah i mean is there any use for sunglasses in hull?

the beardy one reminds of this young middle-class jogger I once had some verbals with (he cried like a pussyole cos my soft-arse dog barked at him once). Lots of tattoos and gym membership, something about "positive mental health" on their social media profile. My dog is good at judging twats!

Hull-based indie band The Steamers is a force to be reckoned with, blending the infectious grooves of The Stone Roses with the psychedelic edge of Primal Scream and the undeniable swagger of Oasis. Their music is a perfect fusion of classic and contemporary sounds, combining driving guitars, pulsing basslines, and soaring vocals to create a truly unique sonic experience. With a powerful stage presence and an unapologetic attitude, The Steamers are quickly making a name for themselves on the UK indie scene. Don't miss the chance to catch their electrifying live show and experience the irresistible sound of The Steamers.

Did I imagine it or have they become really right wing in their older age? I'm sure someone mentioned that they were one of the all lives matter anti-woke brigade.

kitchen person, Wednesday, 21 June 2023 01:00 (nine months ago) link

I’m hoping people will come away with the idea that you’re gonna love every track, and that it’s a callback to the glory days of rock. That’s all I ask.

assert (matttkkkk), Wednesday, 21 June 2023 01:00 (nine months ago) link

I'm now searching recent interviews with them.

Lots of gold in here:

https://www.flickofthefinger.co.uk/band-interviews/2019/hurricane-1-interview/

Lots of 90’s bands are making a comeback, was it only a matter of time before Hurricane #1 returned?

Chris – People don’t always realise we have been back since 2015, becuase our 2016 album, Find What You Love And Kill It, went a bit under the radar as it was only released internationally

Of course, there’s a familiar name to the 90’s followers in Stuart Fletcher. A former Seahorse…….

Stuart – British music needs us and all these other bands for then. We were all the pioneers of the genre.

Jon – Back to show them how it’s done (laughs)

kitchen person, Wednesday, 21 June 2023 01:10 (nine months ago) link

Love the way that whichever poor label intern had to come up with this shite couldn't be arsed to fix the piss-poor grammar the band had supplied for the track by track rundown.

darts macabre (Matt #2), Wednesday, 21 June 2023 01:10 (nine months ago) link

What are the members of Hurricane #1 listening to when it comes to current music out there?

Chris – Crowded House for me, just now…..loved them then and I love them now. Also, a band called Television.

Alex – I love the big guns………real musicians. Black Sabbath, The Beatles, Rolling Stones, Johnny Cash. Old school, you can’t beat it!

Stuart – I’m really digging Greta Van Fleet at the moment. Ace band, along with Zero 7

Jon – Bob Seger, Pearl Jam……..old school rock

Stuart not really on the same page here.
