on a one year rental looking for a contract his value could be pretty high.

idk hes hates them they hate him neither has any use for the other anymore

lag∞n, Thursday, 30 June 2022 19:23 (one year ago) link

someone needs to stop this pod its gone too far

Kyrie foolishness, first round sweep, Harden trade fallout all clearly drove this, but…we can’t discount that all the legacy talk and chatter after the Warriors won the championship might have been the tipping point! pic.twitter.com/j2cpGcCfuP

will definitely look back on this nets superteam era as one of the great ones

Clay, Thursday, 30 June 2022 19:26 (one year ago) link

lag∞n, Thursday, 30 June 2022 19:30 (one year ago) link

nash probably never been happier, just needs to find a way to offload simmo the goat now

Spottie, Thursday, 30 June 2022 19:36 (one year ago) link

something that is crazy to me is that sean marks and the nets front office has so far escaped all criticism for how the kyrie/KD experiment has played out. like, how is this not just an absolutely fireable offense in every sense? they failed as spectacularly as you could ever fail in terms of putting together a super team. they went after volatile personalities, didn't win anything, couldn't do anything to keep the team together, and are now going to be back at square one. it's straight up one of the worst GM jobs i've ever seen? what's the counter argument?

J0rdan S., Thursday, 30 June 2022 19:37 (one year ago) link

well they are about to get a massive haul

Spottie, Thursday, 30 June 2022 19:38 (one year ago) link

the counter argument is that he wasn't actually running the team

call all destroyer, Thursday, 30 June 2022 19:39 (one year ago) link

also you could argue injuries and unforeseen circumstances (kyrie not playing cos reasons). getting kd was the actual move and they had to do whatever else to make that happen.

lol yah kd was the gm and kyrie the coach

Spottie, Thursday, 30 June 2022 19:40 (one year ago) link

i guess you get to credit them for landing them in the first place, but yeah, a lot rides on how they can salvage this kd trade

terence trent d'ilfer (m bison), Thursday, 30 June 2022 19:40 (one year ago) link

Per source, the Dallas #Mavericks are expected to heavily pursue a trade for #Nets star Kyrie Irving. Assuming they lose Jalen Brunson, that pursuit will be very aggressive.

― Spottie, Thursday, June 30, 2022 3:40 PM (one minute ago)

right this is what ppl say. but the whole role of the GM when you put together a super team is to manage the egos enough to keep it together for 3 or 4 years. what you do in terms of player acquisition etc "running the team" actually doesn't matter all that much. you have to have an infrastructure/culture that can get everyone on the same page. clearly they failed spectacularly in that regard and i'm just like... you threw this franchise into the trash can. yeah every team would have taken on kyrie to get KD but other teams would've actually been able to make it work. i don't think it was a foregone conclusion that all of this was just going to go to shit.

J0rdan S., Thursday, 30 June 2022 19:58 (one year ago) link

so many teams could make this work, was forgetting NOP and TOR could make really good offers

terence trent d'ilfer (m bison), Thursday, 30 June 2022 20:02 (one year ago) link

denver should offer mpj+murray for kd+roster fill

terence trent d'ilfer (m bison), Thursday, 30 June 2022 20:03 (one year ago) link

xp right, they suck and basically started from scratch with a new coach/culture, that pretty much never works. gotta have some infrastructure. like maybe just buying into what atkinson had established could have been better than throwing a brand new ~vibes~ coach in there but mgmt was too weak to stand their ground vs kd and now they are here.

With 4 years left on KD's deal, and his likely destinations being very unlikely to have the best trade package, this will be our biggest test ever of player empowerment. How much can he control his destination given the duration of the contract?

— Nate Duncan (@NateDuncanNBA) June 30, 2022

Reminder for fake trade creators: Nets aren't doing a deal to tank. Houston owns their next five drafts. It's gotta be something for real basketball players.

— John Hollinger (@johnhollinger) June 30, 2022

these are the two competing ideologies that make this so fascinating

J0rdan S., Thursday, 30 June 2022 20:14 (one year ago) link

he’s gonna end up on the clippers somehow, it’s the most joyless and surreal option probably

Clay, Thursday, 30 June 2022 20:18 (one year ago) link

i don't get what team

a. can win a title in the next 2-3 years w/ durant
b. can win a title in the next 2-3 years w/ durant if they trade enough pieces to the nets so that the nets are still competitive
c. won't have their lives made a living hell by durant bcuz he got sent somewhere he doesn't want to play

to me it feels like it's going to end the way all this stuff ends w/ the player dictating where he wants to go and the team sending him out getting a bunch of picks

J0rdan S., Thursday, 30 June 2022 20:18 (one year ago) link

With Simmons needed to be sent out (to Heat or elsewhere) in any Bam/Nets deal, one HYPOTHETICAL permutation that would work within cap rules is Durant/Simmons for Bam, Herro, Lowry, Robinson and three first-rounders (including Jokic).

— Barry Jackson (@flasportsbuzz) June 30, 2022

like… is a team of butler, durant, simmons and a bunch of two way type guys really enough to win a title to the point that you’re willing to trade a young all star, your best young player, a good PG and four picks? none of this kinda stuff makes sense to me.

J0rdan S., Thursday, 30 June 2022 20:20 (one year ago) link

If the suns can do it without giving up mikal

Spottie, Thursday, 30 June 2022 20:21 (one year ago) link

circling back to the marks thing, my feeling is that there was a decision at the ownership level to let kd and kyrie come to brooklyn and more or less run the show. i don't get the sense that marks was put in a position to wield influence over anything other than like slots 8-15 on the roster, where he's basically been doing fine. if joe tsai could fire himself that would be much more appropriate--he turned his business over to two absolute weirdos.

could happen!

call all destroyer, Thursday, 30 June 2022 20:43 (one year ago) link

the nets are not what?

The Nets, however, are not buoyed to honoring any of Durant's preferred destinations and plan to make a deal that allows them the greatest return of assets, sources told ESPN.
