seeing a lot of music people failing to get today's heardle. it's one of the biggest songs of the last five years, maybe the biggest! (though yes it is horrible) - not sure what this says about the position of mainstream pop.

I attempt it most days. I didn't get it today. (Wed.) Though I've almost certainly (half-)heard it. That's exactly the sort of vocal affectation that just gets me switching radio stations tbh.

A friend who instantly recognised it (but was unfamiliar with Chic and The Smiths last week, for instance) pointed out that they are virtually my neighbour. Which appears to be true. (Leaving me astonished that they're the sort of artist about which someone would casually learn that level of detail.)

it's the most shazammed song of all time!

the top three here are all nothing short of horrific

Blimey!

i figured it out once the horrible vocals started

it was thee biggest song of 2020 in my house (i know it's from 2019), so got it in 1 second. i still love it, 'horrible' vocals and all - sorry!

stirmonster, Wednesday, 29 June 2022 13:07 (two months ago) link

I've failed Thursday's too now. Not sure I've failed twice in row before lol. A completely different type of studiously ignored thing this time.

Nag! Nag! Nag!, Wednesday, 29 June 2022 14:11 (two months ago) link

i got it immediately as i usually do when i know the song at all. i'm pretty sure i shazammed the song back when it was first breaking, not because i liked it and was intrigued but because i wanted to know who on earth was responsible for this monstrosity (i've come to enjoy the song a little more now, mostly b/c i find it funny somehow)

in the us at least, it was undeniably a runaway streaming smash that young ppl would play at parties and such but it was obviously very polarizing to the older crowds, so while radio acknowledged it, they didn't keep it around as long or take it as high as they would have a comparably reactive song by a more down-the-middle act like maroon 5. by and large radio is what ratifies the most omnipresent of hits in america now, and what they play is also largely what you'll also hear as far as current music on tv commercials, at sports stadiums and the like as well. there are a lot of big hits in america now that plenty of older folks, even music-loving ones, won't be familiar with unless they put an active effort into keeping up with what the youngns like

I entered "monkey" and the song didn't come up in the options :(

in the uk it was on radio on heavy rotation for months and months.

xpost

It spent something like 3 months at #1 in the UK

loathe the song but got in 1

yeah, not good news for people who don't use Spotify, for example me

It sounds like they're keeping it publicly accessible, fwiw(?)

swift action, great stuff 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

(the good news is that the decade-specific Heardles above are still accessible, at least where I am. for now)

The other day I discovered there are two 90s heardles, one at glitch.me and one at heardledecades.com - I've been using the former.

dear confusion the catastrophe waitress (ledge), Wednesday, 13 July 2022 13:57 (two months ago) link

yep, and glitch.me also has a 00s one - as well as (some? many?) artist-specific ones. I mean… https://littlemix-heardle.glitch.me/

They've only gone and ruined the UI. You used to be able to press skip while it was playing, so you didn't have to hear the first bits over and over again. Now pressing skip stops playback and sends it back to the beginning.

dear confusion the catastrophe waitress (ledge), Friday, 15 July 2022 07:53 (two months ago) link

You can't see the historical stats for each track any more either, which was one of the most interesting bits for me.

^Arrrrrgh! I had been enjoying that since you pointed it out here.

They changed it back. Someone there must read ilx, there's no other explanation. Hey! How about you bring back full screen album cover view?

one month passes...

(spoilers for the current one if you care)

i know the purchase was made a month and a half ago, but since the actual move to spotify.com this has felt annoyingly different.

the oldest song out the past 7 answers is from 2010. looking at the whole list of previous answers this is a clear shift. especially jeremy zucker/xxxtentacion/billie eilish three days in a row. i don't think i'm zoomer enough for this anymore.

spotify has ruined vanilla heardle to me, but luckily there are like a thousand bootleg heardles

reggae mike love (polyphonic), Sunday, 28 August 2022 06:08 (four weeks ago) link

I do 60s heardle, 70s heardle, lame 80s heardle (rip cool 80s heardle!), 90s heardle, us 90s heardle, 2000s heardle, bob dylan heardle, david bowie heardle, sparks heardle, weird al heardle (weirdle obv)... ya heardle... video game heardle...

reggae mike love (polyphonic), Sunday, 28 August 2022 06:12 (four weeks ago) link

one would say you’re truly polyphonic

big movers, hot steppers + long shaker intros (breastcrawl), Sunday, 28 August 2022 07:36 (four weeks ago) link

I do all of those decade ones too btw (two 80s ones and two 90s ones)

my hit rate (in descending order):
80s (heardle80s)
80s (heardledecades)
70s / 60s (tie)
90s (heardledecades)
00s (glitch.me)
90s (glitch.me)

the glitch.me ones are much tougher

…and thanks to this I just found there is a 00s.heardledecades one now too, for which I now have a 1/1 100% score - straight in at number one baby! (oh dear, and *two* different glitch.me 80s ones I didn’t know about, one of which I can’t actually open)

I had a hot streak one day of getting all of the '60s-'00s and regular Heardle in one second each. Unlikely to ever repeat that feat, even if only because at least one of the songs is unavailable in my location pretty much every day (and, as noted, regular Heardle is all new stuff now and I am an old).

Beautiful Bean Footage Fetishist (Old Lunch), Sunday, 28 August 2022 13:04 (four weeks ago) link

spotify heardle is just unspeakably bad. how the hell are they choosing these songs?

comedy khadafi (voodoo chili), Sunday, 28 August 2022 13:15 (four weeks ago) link

they also deleted all stats, offer a transfer at the old link, but every time you click it redirects to the new link

comedy khadafi (voodoo chili), Sunday, 28 August 2022 13:17 (four weeks ago) link

I wonder how far ahead the results are planned with for Heardle.

With Wordle, it's essentially been going through the same word list since day one, with an estimated end of October 2027. During weeks with harder words, some people would speculate that it was because of the New York Times buyout, but that appears to have not changed a thing as you can search up copies of the word list from back in January and see that's it's still on track.

Agreed. It's not fun any more.

Spotify Heardle is still not available in my “location”, so 🤷🏻‍♂️

big movers, hot steppers + long shaker intros (breastcrawl), Sunday, 28 August 2022 15:16 (four weeks ago) link

in other news, i frequently attempt the video game heardle and very rarely get it right (maybe like 4 times out of 30 or something lol). it’s fun to hear cool songs from games i’ve never even heard of

comedy khadafi (voodoo chili), Sunday, 28 August 2022 16:27 (four weeks ago) link

three weeks pass...

spotify heardle is a damn abomination

comedy khadafi (voodoo chili), Friday, 23 September 2022 11:44 (three days ago) link

the worst part is the days they actually do pick a song that isn't billie eilish, it's the most obvious shit in the world

, Saturday, 24 September 2022 08:29 (two days ago) link

yeah i mostly stopped playing after they acquired it lol, i did want it to become a little harder but when i do check in it seems like they seem to overwhelmingly do rock songs now? boring

dyl, Saturday, 24 September 2022 12:57 (two days ago) link

or songs that barely made the hot 100 but somehow have a billion streams

comedy khadafi (voodoo chili), Saturday, 24 September 2022 13:16 (two days ago) link

ime it's only been Billie Eilish once but Green Day at least 3 times if not 4

kinder, Saturday, 24 September 2022 17:57 (two days ago) link

i think the best use of heardle is a conversation starter for a group of "non musically worldly" friends to play the same edition, share the results, and see how well each other know the songs.

other uses include: nonrandom samples of zoomer music u dont know or care for
seeing whether u can identify famous older songs by their first second
as the above post mentions, 2 much green day

sometimes i do the vampire weekend heardle to make sure i can identify every song from their first 3 albums.
