it's easy to see why the inhabitants of the elden ring area are generally really cynical about things. they have seen some crazy shit go down

So the kids in the household have suddenly decided they want to play the entire Devil May Cry back catalogue and I cant get to use the PS4 at all, which blows.

Whats the PC version like at this point, anyone playing on PC? I know it was bad when it came out but theres been loads of patches since so...

My maths might be off here, but I worked out that since this game came out I've been playing it 14% of my waking and sleeping life :-O

Bit the bullet and repurchased the game on Steam, I have a beefy games laptop with an RTX card, and it runs like a DREAM and looks way better than on my PS4, I dont know what all the fuss was about re the PC version. Perhaps its since been patched?

I'm already doing way better after like 2 hours new play than after 40 on my first run (which I havent finished, I've only just done mountaintops and finally Deeproot Depths)

So looking like that new From game is almost certainly a new Armored Core. I've never played any of that series, but a mech game from From sounds great to me.

Huh. I don't know anything about Armored Core. I'm not a fan of anime, which has always seemed to me very mech-suit centric, so don't know how excited to be, but given From's recent winning streak I'm definitely curious.

I would be in, I've enjoyed some of the BattleTech/MechWarrior + related games in the past (which are not anime at all), but I don't know if any mech game has ever really nailed it. I'm sure From could do it.

This 2nd playthtrough on the PC has been a breeze. I knocked over Morgitt, Godrick and Renalla with relative ease. In fact I belted my way straight to the bossfight for Raya Lucaria, and then did a casual stroll around AFTERWARD to clean up/get all the goodies.

I'm finding my run smash n grab approach is working well for me. Sure, I might not make as many runes avoiding all these enemies, but they are almost all out-runnable and I dont die anywhere near as much.

I also took time to PAY ATTENTION to each NPC I spoke to and followed their quests, and this time I didnt BREAK any of them, so Ive been able to properly follow the quest/NPC movements for Blaidd, D, Renna, Seluvis, Sellen and Alexander, and properly complete the Edgar and Kenneth Haight quests too.
All in only 20 hours or so! Sweet.

Mind you I've yet to get to Haligtree/Melania on anything Ive done, so there is still that...

After an hour a day or more of dueling for a while now think I’ve adopted the contentious opinion that “bleed isn’t broken” (but Rivers Of Blood decisively is)

I don’t use bleed (except in low-level aspirant PvE) but I don’t generally find it to be a problem in dueling? mind you I wear Mottled Charm +1 to the duel and swap to the magic negating charm if I see a Moonveil or a staff)

My new Funtime these days is pairing two weapons with vastly different rhythms to mess up the opponent’s timing. Lance goes into axe. Heavy thrusting goes into rapier. Great spear goes into fist. It’s fun

The only weapon I’m pretty sure has no place in PvP is the curved Greatsword, but I am TRYING SO HARD to make a Dismounter build have a run of wins

I'm yet to give PvP a go. Reddit and such makes it all look so toxic :(

NG+ was a huuuge breeze for me except for Elden Beast who I can barely get down to half health.

I regret having done quite so much on my first playthrough (I did nearly all the quests and found almost all the sites of grace) as now in order to get the platinum I'm just having to repeat quests I already went through. Should have left some stuff for the next round

O I should point out my 2nd playthorugh isnt an NG+, I started from scratch! Still doing a Prisoner INT/DEX build with a little sidearm of faith.

Ive yet to actually finish the fucking game. Same with skyrim and Windwaker.

Thanks fgti! That was level 40+8, I've been sitting there on this character. Btw I've finally gotten down the parry timing for Bloodhound's Fang, for when people are spamming the WA, it's satisfying.

Re: bleed, I think it really depends on your level, if they're dual wielding bleed weapons and stacking arcane, and your own absorption. On my low-level character I've encountered some password-summoned phantoms using dual Godskin peelers, curved swords, or naginatas and gotten one-shot.

This was the Dark Souls 3 meta -- halberd or ultra-greatsword paired with offhand estoc or Dragonslayer axe, etc. My absolute favorite build was a lvl 40 with offhand great scythe and main hand straight sword, and I had a Pontiff lvl 60 build with offhand halberd. I really need to play around with it more in ER!

I posted a video in the Slack Twitch where I hilariously go lance into iron cleaver and it's very satisfying and also I was very stoned at the time. The R2 on the iron cleaver is like a plot twist every time, and if you follow it with something like Sword Dance it feels like you're literally speeding up and slowing down time

Re: bleed. I just figured that if I'm using one two three talismans to "be able to wear the armour" and to "be able to do good damage", I might as well wear one that will "reduce the chance I'll bleed to death" (thus, Mottled +1). I always buff with a blood-prevention meat too if I see a serrated edges on anything

The good thing about Mottled also is that it's cold-preventative as well. Cold can be just as lethal as bleed! That ridiculous Glintblade Of Gargantua thing is a case in point

I’ve perversely enjoyed the haligtree so far: feels harder than anything before but really made me focus - can’t get away with overlevelled mashing so I will use every tool I have to beat these mfs, take their things and get from grace to grace, no matter how long it takes..

Sometimes I use the "hey" to mean "hey, we're all playing a game, let's have a good time here" before we start fighting.

But if we're already fighting, and maybe they're clearly out of resources and close to defeat, it can mean "hey, let's stop, you were a good sport and I'll give you some and leave".

Or, it can mean "hey, I just murdered you, but we had fun, right? I respect you, see how I'm not doing any rude gestures over your corpse?

what is needed is 5 seconds of open voice channel at the end of any PvP battle, so both players can say what they think out loud

Nooo, I couldn't play these games if there was any voice chat at all (and categorically refuse to ever wear a gaming headset). We just need more inflections for "hey".

I assume there are people that hack these games to add dialogue options?

Elden Beast can go suck a fuck

It took me SO MANY attempts, but I finally beat the Elden Beast in NG+.

I don't remember it being so hard the first time round, but this one stumped me. Up until this point, I'd felt really quite overleveled and even beat Placidusax in under a minute. But this was different.
It felt like I could never get close enough to EB to be able to get a hit in. And if I did, it would one-shot me every time.

Originally I was making the mistake of trying to jump over the golden slash waves, but soon learned that you can roll through them. I still usually got hit by a couple because the timing needs to be super accurate. Lord's Divine Fortification and Haligtree Talisman +2 helped to negate holy damage (but not by much).

I'd used up all my Rune Arcs by this point, had re-specced and leveled up to about 135y, and felt as though I knew the Radagon fight insise out (ironically in this fight I made a fair few silly mistakes).

I think what helped me a lot in this fight was Black Flame's Protection which guards against physical damage. Also worth remembering Maliketh's Black Blade which really seems to take chunks out this boy.
Notice also how many runes I started the fight with - I'd forgotten to spend them! Good thing I won.

Anyway, a tough fight - maybe the toughest fight I've had to do since starting the game. It isn't perfect, but I feel vindicated!
