ok i gotta read this now lol

i do think there was something interesting in the theory of what he was saying about cutting down on the number of reports, having a smaller draft board, being more intentional about scouting etc … but (as you guys note) the underlying objective of only finding win now players is crazy & you can’t really run an NBA team that way. also ultimately it’s hard to shake the feeling that the entire objective is being driven more than anything by sarver being cheap. the tail is kinda wagging the dog here

also the jalen smith pick is the real fly in the ointment. he was a skinny raw center who they way overdrafted and it based on this they legitimately thought he was going to step in right away — whoops — to be their… back up center? from both an evaluation and process POV it was just monumentally dumb. meanwhile they passed on halliburton who was the same age and was immediately good in the NBA. maybe he wasn’t even on their board!

J0rdan S., Monday, 27 June 2022 16:17 (one year ago) link

also the whole thing about not sending scouts out to games because it’s better for them to be around the team… does he know about league pass? you can watch the games from other states now, it’s really nice

ESPN Sources: Outside of the Lakers, there are currently no known teams planning pursuit of sign-and-trades for Nets G Kyrie Irving. No sign-and-trades can be formally discussed until after 6 PM on Thursday. Brooklyn isn't believed to have interest in available Lakers packages.

— Adrian Wojnarowski (@wojespn) June 27, 2022

Tee hee hee

If Irving declines his $36M player option, he would be eligible to sign with the Lakers for the $6M exception. Deadline is Wednesday to decide on option.

kyrie forgot to factor in the whole just not playing basketball for three years because you didnt feel like it will make you less desirable to nba teams part into his plan to get two hundred million dollars

lag∞n, Monday, 27 June 2022 16:37 (one year ago) link

feel like there should be a graphic for the games last year where he just didnt bother to tell the nets he wasnt coming in

was googling to figure out how many firsts the lakers have available to trade, 2026 & 2028 fwiw, and lakers fan/media fake trades are always so funny and delusional

https://i.imgur.com/dsWdCMA.png

heres a more realistic one tho they still just throw joe harris in there and have to defend giving up two first even when the famous THT is included

lakers trading for kyrie would be unambiguously great for them imo. it could and probably will blow up in their faces but they’re currently hopeless and i can’t imagine a way in which they acquire a better player than him this offseason

J0rdan S., Monday, 27 June 2022 17:05 (one year ago) link

it would be great for everyone the fans the haters the tv ratings, everyone except the nets who would just get two distant lakers firsts for their trouble and then be forced to trade kd too

lag∞n, Monday, 27 June 2022 17:07 (one year ago) link

looks like the dejaunte for collins talk continues

Heez, Monday, 27 June 2022 17:08 (one year ago) link

but on the other hand two lakers first is better than having kyrie walk to the knicks for nothing

lag∞n, Monday, 27 June 2022 17:08 (one year ago) link

The Spurs are fielding offers for Murray and have told multiple interested teams it would take a “Jrue Holiday-like package” for San Antonio to part with the 25-year-old floor general, setting a rough benchmark of three first-round picks for any suitor to pry Murray free.

lag∞n, Monday, 27 June 2022 17:10 (one year ago) link

cant imagine collins has too much value around the league right now, got a big new contract right around the time he missed a bunch of games

lag∞n, Monday, 27 June 2022 17:11 (one year ago) link

i do think the celtics should consider putting together a jrue holiday like package for him tho

lag∞n, Monday, 27 June 2022 17:12 (one year ago) link

for murray to be clear

lag∞n, Monday, 27 June 2022 17:14 (one year ago) link

there was talk that the celtics were interested in collins but apparently werent remotely close to offering what the hawks want

lag∞n, Monday, 27 June 2022 17:14 (one year ago) link

i really want to clear his spot for Okongwu

Heez, Monday, 27 June 2022 17:16 (one year ago) link

the hawks def can trade him but i think theyre looking at a first plus spare parts type deal

lag∞n, Monday, 27 June 2022 17:17 (one year ago) link

why are the spurs even fielding offers for murray?

Heez, Monday, 27 June 2022 17:19 (one year ago) link

Hawks receive: Dejounte Murray, Keldon Johnson

Spurs receive: De’Andre Hunter, John Collins, Delon Wright, two future first-round picks

Heez, Monday, 27 June 2022 17:19 (one year ago) link

why are the spurs even fielding offers for murray?

― Heez, Monday, June 27, 2022 1:19 PM (one minute ago) bookmarkflaglink

hes not hang up the phone good and the spurs arent making any noise soon so theyre basically like yeah give us all your assets and we can talk

lag∞n, Monday, 27 June 2022 17:23 (one year ago) link

if a team wants to trade a jrue holiday like package for a player who is worse than jrue holiday that is one thing. i really have no idea why the spurs would want john collins tho. he’s a good player but what is he doing for the spurs in particular, i do not understand

J0rdan S., Monday, 27 June 2022 17:24 (one year ago) link

worth noting too that the bucks gave up more than one typically would for a player of jrue holidays caliber

lag∞n, Monday, 27 June 2022 17:25 (one year ago) link

I'd be cool with the hawks trading anyone other than Trae, Okongwu or Hunter

Heez, Monday, 27 June 2022 17:26 (one year ago) link

however much like holiday did with the bucks murray could put the celtics over the top, basically a perfect fit and hes the same age as the celtics core ie young

lag∞n, Monday, 27 June 2022 17:27 (one year ago) link

if the spurs are looking to get rid of their best player that means theres prob something wrong

Spottie, Monday, 27 June 2022 17:39 (one year ago) link

it would be great for everyone the fans the haters the tv ratings, everyone except the nets who would just get two distant lakers firsts for their trouble and then be forced to trade kd too

― lag∞n, Monday, June 27, 2022 12:07 PM (thirty-two minutes ago) bookmarkflaglink

if they hold onto Westbrook too it would be amazing, I'd watch all 75 nationally televised games they'd inevitably get

frogbs, Monday, 27 June 2022 17:41 (one year ago) link

― Spottie, Monday, June 27, 2022 1:39 PM (two minutes ago) bookmarkflaglink

idk they might just be looking at their roster and thinking more rebuilding is better than getting stuck in the middle, but theyre prob not really looking to move him teams are calling and theyre like yeah give us crazy value and of course well think about it

lag∞n, Monday, 27 June 2022 17:44 (one year ago) link

westbrook and simmons are such a cosmically bad fit i feel like they must have already played together

lag∞n, Monday, 27 June 2022 17:45 (one year ago) link

tbh anytime you hear rumors abt the spurs, its coming from the other team. i think atl is trying to create a market for jc and keep rumors that theyre targeting a young all-star for him. i dont think the spurs are that interested in trading dejounte.

spurs have basically 3 paths:
1. trade dejounte for a godfather presti offer and get their under-23 players (and there are a lot of them, and theyre all 6'5") all the run they want while they keep building through the draft for the next few years
2. make a run at ayton with a max offer s&t with the suns and add a another FA or two and try to become a playoff team now
3. maintain status quo, play it conservative and commit to methodical grinding mediocrity

i think ayton has untapped lead scorer potential, and if he learns how to sleep like a normal adult, he could be a top 3 center, so im hoping for 2, will settle for 1, dreading 3

terence trent d'ilfer (m bison), Monday, 27 June 2022 17:49 (one year ago) link

its pretty funny how sam presti has all the draft picks and can easily make a trade that would kneecap any other franchise

lag∞n, Monday, 27 June 2022 17:53 (one year ago) link

ok

terence trent d'ilfer (m bison), Monday, 27 June 2022 18:48 (one year ago) link

this is good imo, the nets should give up

ciderpress, Monday, 27 June 2022 18:51 (one year ago) link

send kyrie to the lakers and kd to any half decent team

ciderpress, Monday, 27 June 2022 18:51 (one year ago) link

tell simmons youll trade him if he plays good for a half a season and call it a day

lag∞n, Monday, 27 June 2022 18:52 (one year ago) link

theme for the 2020's definitely feels like "the death drive", nets FO is on trend

terence trent d'ilfer (m bison), Monday, 27 June 2022 18:53 (one year ago) link

the backdrop to this is apparently that joe tasi isn't happy with the team's performance on the business side

call all destroyer, Monday, 27 June 2022 18:55 (one year ago) link

maybe they should try building a team from scratch to cultivate an actual fanbase

ciderpress, Monday, 27 June 2022 18:57 (one year ago) link

consider locating their team in a place that doesnt have a team

lag∞n, Monday, 27 June 2022 18:59 (one year ago) link

i think if they put together something better than the knicks organically then they will get people on board, and thats a pretty low bar

ciderpress, Monday, 27 June 2022 18:59 (one year ago) link

they could def do better than they do now but theres just always going to be that knicks problem there

lag∞n, Monday, 27 June 2022 19:00 (one year ago) link

In talking with multiple sources around the NBA, many believe Hawks on verge of trading for San Antonio's All-Star guard Dejounte Murray - However, it's looking like John Collins is not part of deal. Would be Gallo & multiple 1st round picks. Spurs prepping for future & '23 draft

lol spurs love trading for washed euros on the end of the career that wouldve thrived on their team in their prime and then cutting them, can see it

terence trent d'ilfer (m bison), Monday, 27 June 2022 19:06 (one year ago) link

they should at least try it once. they immediately tried to buy a team after moving there and then when that failed they were bad for a few years and then tried again

ciderpress, Monday, 27 June 2022 19:07 (one year ago) link

yeah i dont disagree on principle its just the right thing to do

lag∞n, Monday, 27 June 2022 19:12 (one year ago) link

but imo thy kinda fucked themselves by moving to ny calling themselves brooklyn and not changing the name the nets, their whole thing is contrived and lame while theyre competing against a team thats one of the most new yorky institutions, they tried to be cool and sleek play one million jayz songs and yell where brooklyn, but what new yorkers really want is shitty old timey stuff

lag∞n, Monday, 27 June 2022 19:16 (one year ago) link

fuckin spec house looking gray court

lag∞n, Monday, 27 June 2022 19:18 (one year ago) link

their arena has seats that are actually comfortable though
