all tv ads for subscription services that are aired on terrestrial tv can get in the sea, but especially the current paramount / coffee delivery one.

the woman hiding in the wigwam in the life insurance advert who gives her age as "50" has obviously had a hard life because she looks at least 10 years older than that.

OK, it's 30 degrees outside and I've just seen an advert for Christmas trees.

There's an Irish ad about road tolls that I only see when I'm watching stuff on All 4, and I genuinely can't understand what's happening in it, except that it makes paying your toll through the app seem incredibly complicated and scary, which is probably not the intention.
Oh, it's also really sexist, but that's a given.

It might have been too much to expect a Shetland accent but couldn't they have least hired someone who can do a convincing Scottish accent?

new verisure ad is borderline incoherent given she's talking on the phone as she's rushing out the door.

elsewhere: who wears jeans to yoga classes?

there's one where a young woman and her grandmother are talking over zoom, the granddaughter just passed a job interview and is being congratulated by the grandmother, the granddaughter says something about "it must run in the family!" But the grandmother has a Welsh accent and the granddaughter has a Polish accent, so I'm just left wondering what history this family have, her son/daughter must have moved to Poland in the very early 90s and settled down there? But they seem too close for that. Then at the end of the advert they just sit there grinning silently at the camera for 10 seconds.
I have seen this 100+ times on TV and pre-roll on YouTube and cannot remember what it is advertising.

the pet charity adverts, someone has a strange sense of humour. there's a cat with one eye, they called it odin. there's another that was found inside a wall and they've called that one mccavity.

if my auntie bought me a magnifying glass for my birthday and i was older than say 4 years old I'd be livid.

Meerkats and Go Compare guy have not only outstayed their welcome, but the newer ads are actually worse. Like when meerkat Sergei has the blue cyborg eye thingy coz he's now AUTO Sergei, or when the Go Compare singer is talking to the actual tenor who plays him, and/or he's dressed up as a woman who is supposedly his wife.

It's 118 118 all over again. Also there's the Plusnet ads, I have no idea why they've persisted with them when they've never been interesting or entertaining or amusing even for a second.

two weeks pass...

gambling adverts now have been regulated to the point that they look like anti-gambling PSAs, reminds me of the glossy magazine cigarette ads in the 90s where it was just an artsy photo with the colours of the brand and a huge anti-smoking notice underneath

link.exposing.politically (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Tuesday, 13 September 2022 21:35 (one year ago) link

(this is all good, adverts still bad though)

seems like life insurance and funeral services are being downplayed recently, which has left a gap for payday loans ads to fill.

the mattress wars continue. i think one of them is now offering a 200 day trial.

Couldn’t have said it better! This cursed ad shows up constantly on bt sport’s mlb coverage and I see it about 20 times a game. It’s so cursed. The women all wearing gentle pastel colours, the sunny sky, the blowing hair, the relatability- you think it’s a tampon ad if you’re not paying attention and then it’s like NATIONWIDE CARES IF YOU CAN’T PAY YOUR BILLS. The worst.

barry sito (gyac), Saturday, 22 October 2022 21:26 (one year ago) link

Actually, while I’m here, the most cursed repeat ads on BTSport when they’re looping the same five ads over and over again to block out American ads:

Mason Mount spot/any football team ad

I can’t find this online which is good as I think it edges me nearer to a brain aneurysm. MM/or the team/player who’s the subject taps the screen, talks directly to the viewer while being filmed from below, the cutting is fast to disguise the fact that it looks like someone’s kid knocked it up. Generic music too.

Pixel 7 ad

I have an iPhone. I’m not going to change that any time soon.

McDelivery ads

It’s amazing how much you can grow to hate I Think We’re Alone Now and Hungry Eyes.

ads for the channel I’m already watching

A whole atrocity of their own!

Yes, the same guy is in one of the Verisure ads too.

I hate all of those ads for I think it's accountancy software, or some other boring shit aimed a small businesses, with annoying tiny people bullying people into buying their incomprehensible product. Especially the one where the woman says, "I don't like tech". Has anyone ever said, "I don't like tech" irl? About some piece of software?

nobody. literally nobody has ever said this, it makes no sense, wtf is up with car adverts?

dogdick solanke (Noodle Vague), Friday, 11 November 2022 16:35 (one year ago) link

remembering the 90s when all car commercials were "hey there's a woman in a bikini sunbathing on the hood, women will dig you if you buy this car", now it's a bunch of random gobbledegook featuring some old classic rock song they licensed to use.

from sexism to incomprehensibility

In the online ads category (at least I think they don't do these on telly) - Uber, the ship has long sailed on trying to trick people into thinking your drivers are treated anywhere near fairly. I will not interrupt my 4 hour video on a failed theme park to sign up for your fleet no matter how many times you try me.
