also reflecting upon the fact that the knicks traded a first and four seconds to get rid of kembas $9m expiring contract??
― lag∞n, Saturday, 25 June 2022 12:12 (one year ago) link
look at this trade it does even have a knicks receive section
Charlotte receives:
• 2023 first-round pick (from Denver via Oklahoma City and New York)• 2023 second-round pick (via New York)• 2023 second-round pick (via Utah)• 2023 second-round pick (most favorable of Dallas/Miami)• 2024 second-round pick (via New York)
Detroit receives:
• 2022 draft rights to Jalen Duren (via Charlotte)• Kemba Walker (via New York)
― lag∞n, Saturday, 25 June 2022 12:16 (one year ago) link
isnt one second round pick more like the usual price to dispose of a expiring mid level contract
― lag∞n, Saturday, 25 June 2022 12:19 (one year ago) link
That doesn't list the other two firsts NYK received iiuc.
― Am I doomposting? I would say you’re not doomposting enough. (PBKR), Saturday, 25 June 2022 12:23 (one year ago) link
right it shouldnt have the jalen duran part in there basically just in terms of the knicks they traded the 11th pick for three conditional firsts lets call that one trade, then they traded one of those firsts kemba walker and four seconds for nothing?
― lag∞n, Saturday, 25 June 2022 12:39 (one year ago) link
nm im confused heres the whole sick story
Knicks-Thunder tradeKnicks receive:
2023 first round pick via Detroit (protected 1-18 until 2024, protected 1-13 in 2025, protected 1-11 in 2026, protected 1-9 in 2027)2023 first round pick via Washington (protected 1-14 in 2023, protected 1-12 in 2024, protected 1-10 in 2025, protected 1-8 in 2026)2023 first round pick via Denver (protected 1-14 until 2025)Thunder receive:
No. 11 pick (Ousmane Dieng)The Knicks had the No. 11 pick entering the night, and there was a lot of talk about them potentially moving up. Instead, they decided to trade out of the first round by sending that pick to the Oklahoma City Thunder in exchange for three future first rounders. While the Knicks do need help now, getting three first round picks in exchange for one is pretty good value.
Knicks-Hornets tradeKnicks receive:
No. 13 pick (Jalen Duren)Hornets receive:
2023 first round pick via Denver (protected 1-14 until 2025)2023 second round pick via New York2023 second round pick via Utah2023 second round pick (most favorable pick between Dallas and Miami)2024 second round pick via New YorkShortly after completing the deal with the Thunder, the Knicks then got back on the phone and worked out a trade with the Charlotte Hornets. They took the 2023 first via Denver they got in the Thunder trade, and packaged it with four future seconds for the No. 13 overall pick, who would become Jalen Duren.
Knicks-Pistons tradeKnicks receive:
2025 first-round pick via Milwaukee (protected 1-4)Pistons receive:
No. 13 pick (Jalen Duren)Kemba WalkerFinally, the Knicks then flipped the No. 13 pick (Jalen Duren) and Kemba Walker to the Detroit Pistons in a third deal. In return, the Knicks got a 2025 first-round pick via Milwaukee, which the Pistons had previously acquired in the Jerami Grant trade earlier this week.

they really just moved the 13th pick in exchange for the bucks 2025 pick and getting off kembas deal, which also seems pretty bad but not as bad as a first and four seconds
― lag∞n, Saturday, 25 June 2022 12:45 (one year ago) link
although i guess ultimately they did trade a bad first and four seconds to get off kembas deal but also got back a bad first, so basically four seconds to get off kembas deal
― lag∞n, Saturday, 25 June 2022 12:47 (one year ago) link
glad we had an opportunity to delineate this
wow, it is nba trades and players
― ciderpress, Saturday, 25 June 2022 12:59 (one year ago) link
I'm not really defending the Knicks' move, but trading a late lottery pick for multiple potential late lottery picks isn't the dumbest thing ever. I would be more worried about what they are going do with that Kemba cap space.
― Am I doomposting? I would say you’re not doomposting enough. (PBKR), Saturday, 25 June 2022 13:22 (one year ago) link
all the picks they got were heavily protected i think
― lag∞n, Saturday, 25 June 2022 13:58 (one year ago) link
it would’ve been cool to just get jalen duren, maybe let the injury prone mitch rob go, and let kemba’s deal expire after this year.
but i am not the gm
― in places all over the world, real stuff be happening (voodoo chili), Saturday, 25 June 2022 14:35 (one year ago) link
ppl are saying the knicks basically got the worst picks that OKC owned… plus they got the bucks first which is prob also not great. i would say in their defense that even not great first round picks give you flexibility in trades, ppl will take them on it’s not like they are worthless. and if the knicks use those in trades i could def see them improving their team more than if they would’ve just taken a guy at 11 which is prob like a 50/50 chance of getting a guy who can even hang in the NBA. if all they do with all this ammo is dump salary to give jalen brunson $130 million then never mind but it is feasible they make some moves that amount to more value than a low lottery rookie
― J0rdan S., Saturday, 25 June 2022 16:01 (one year ago) link
11th pick has to be better than that. looking at the 10 11th picks from the 2010s, 8 or 9 made it as rotation players and 3 are all-star level players
― ciderpress, Saturday, 25 June 2022 16:25 (one year ago) link
my thought when they were acquiring all these picks was that it was gonna be ammo for a kyrie trade lol, which should show you how far into the black pit of negative expectations i have fallen
― in places all over the world, real stuff be happening (voodoo chili), Saturday, 25 June 2022 16:48 (one year ago) link
i always get nervous when teams are like “all the guys we liked were gone at 11.” really? all of them?
― call all destroyer, Saturday, 25 June 2022 17:07 (one year ago) link
its true, every draft there are only 10 good guys and they are always taken in the first 10 picks
― terence trent d'ilfer (m bison), Saturday, 25 June 2022 17:08 (one year ago) link
yeah teams should just accept that the draft is kind of a crapshoot and take a guy even if hes not their guy
― lag∞n, Saturday, 25 June 2022 17:48 (one year ago) link
but still lets be honest 4 seconds to move kembas small expiring contract is the craziest knicks move of the night

― Spottie, Sunday, 26 June 2022 23:46 (one year ago) link
the lakers would be good but i feel like we pretty much know the general parameters of what could happen there, with the low stakes dysfunctional knicks i think we could see some novel kyrie behaviors

i really don't get beal if he decides to return to the wizards. he's been there 10 years, they have no path to contention, if he ever wants to play important basketball he needs to force his way somewhere else, and nobody would blame him if he did
