in truth there's not even one jalen duren and all this noise is meant to convince us he exists

The Pistons are sending the Hornets the 2025 first-round pick via Milwaukee in the Duren trade, sources tell ESPN. Detroit got that pick from Portland in the Jerami Grant deal yesterday.

something has to be going back to them and i haven't seen what it is yet

god i hate when the shamses use 'moved' for 'traded'

mookieproof, Friday, 24 June 2022 01:36 (one year ago) link

On top of the future first-round pick, the #Hornets also acquired four second-round picks in the deal for Jalen Duren, league sources tell @theobserver.

Boom

The Kings are trading No. 37 to the Mavericks for two future second-round picks, source tells ESPN. Dallas is focused on Jaden Hardy with pick.

perk calling banchero a combo of michael beasley and ben simmons oh no

this was easily the highlight of the night

J0rdan S., Friday, 24 June 2022 05:48 (one year ago) link

the heat drafted an international player for the first time in 20 years. i’m all in on jovic after watching 4 mins of his highlights

J0rdan S., Friday, 24 June 2022 17:32 (one year ago) link

haha he's definitely a high variance pick

in other news the spurs drafted 2 shooting guards last night with the picks they acquired from trading derrick white and thad young, and at this point it feels like a 2k glitch

terence trent d'ilfer (m bison), Friday, 24 June 2022 17:34 (one year ago) link

i remember thinking all their picks were interesting potential upside plays but also like they might end up with more keldon johnsons, lonnie walkers and devin vassells

J0rdan S., Friday, 24 June 2022 17:42 (one year ago) link

that's kind of their type. i went back and looked and since 2016 they've had 10 first rounders. 8 of them have been 6'4" or 6'5" combo guards or wings. the only two that werent were luka samanic (lol, didnt even finish his rookie contract) and now sochan (who im VERY high on, wooooooo)

terence trent d'ilfer (m bison), Friday, 24 June 2022 17:46 (one year ago) link

branham is the only guy ive seen where i can see the scoring upside because he's such a good shooter. primo pick last year still confuses me, and the team is allegedly very high on primo still, like they think he'll be the franchise PG in a few years (which is part of where some of the dejounte trade rumors could've come from)

terence trent d'ilfer (m bison), Friday, 24 June 2022 17:48 (one year ago) link

Wolves got one big ole white boy

i tend to be down on guys who do not want to ball

Every time I see Shaedon Sharpe in an article it mentions his amazing vertical leap, and every time I see that I remember the Blazers drafting Charlie Yelverton in the early 70s and every article about him mentioned his amazing vertical leap. Yelverton lasted one year on the bench of what was still an expansion team, then played in Europe.

more difficult than I look (Aimless), Friday, 24 June 2022 18:00 (one year ago) link

that sounds like a you problem...

J0rdan S., Friday, 24 June 2022 18:15 (one year ago) link

ahahaha i have my doubts about sharpe though, but mostly because i have no idea how to project him based on his limited run.

terence trent d'ilfer (m bison), Friday, 24 June 2022 18:19 (one year ago) link

if he's as dynamic an athlete and scorer as people say he is then i think it was prob a no brainer pick for them

J0rdan S., Friday, 24 June 2022 18:23 (one year ago) link

mike schmitz who obv just got hired by the blazers wrote the little scouting blurb for espn on sharpe, kinda interesting to read now

Outlook: This latest viewing was a reminder of just how physically talented and skilled Sharpe truly is, and there's a real argument to be made that he's the best perimeter prospect in this 2022 class, should he opt to enter and stay in the draft. Depending on what you think of prospects like Jabari Smith, Chet Holmgren, Paolo Banchero and Jaden Ivey, you could make a case that he has as much long-term upside as anyone, especially with NBA teams clamoring for perimeter players who can create offense for themselves and others at all 3 levels. While I mentioned players like Anthony Edwards and Jalen Green in our Sharpe deep dive, Paul George is a name that came to mind when watching Sharpe practice. While George is clearly much taller (6-9 to Sharpe's 6-6) and more wing than guard, Sharpe is that smooth and skilled of a scorer with the potential to develop into a reliable playmaker and defender like George has. They also have a similar on-court demeanor. With all that in mind, Sharpe is truly one of the most fascinating prospects in this draft because of his immense talent yet the act that we've never truly seen him in a competitive setting with several do-or-die possessions. Even so, I wouldn't be surprised to see Sharpe ultimately go in the top-5 of the 2022 NBA draft should he opt to stay in as it'll be incredibly difficult for teams who have seen him in person to pass on his combination of physical tools and talent on the perimeter. -- Mike Schmitz

looks like the hawks doubled down on the great shooter/shady defense strategy with AJ Griffin

Heez, Friday, 24 June 2022 18:32 (one year ago) link

I'm just saying that 'amazing vertical leaping ability' is a pretty marginal NBA skill. Same thing for 'off the charts athleticism', which all the articles also say about Sharpe. Basically, the people writing these articles don't know what else to say because what else can you say about a guy who's played so little?

more difficult than I look (Aimless), Friday, 24 June 2022 18:41 (one year ago) link

well, i don't think is true. most NBA players are obv exceptional athletes, but if you're "off the charts" even by those standards that still matters. ja morant, anthony edwards, early westbrook, early lebron are all guys that come to mind as unusually athletic players whose athleticism matters (or mattered) greatly in terms of being great basketball players. of course you need a certain level of skill and effort and all that but if you can jump higher than all of your opponents that gives you a huge advantage in basketball

J0rdan S., Friday, 24 June 2022 18:51 (one year ago) link

yeah, thats p key. if they're teachable, they can do things that other players cant.

― Heez, Friday, June 24, 2022 1:32 PM (thirty-seven minutes ago) bookmarkflaglink

im not surprised he fell that low and i guess if you plan on moving heurter, itd be helpful to have a guy who can shoot, but i think thats all griffin can do. his defense wasnt just shaky, it was awful. he'll be a bench shooter if he cant fully rehab from all the injuries he's had.

terence trent d'ilfer (m bison), Friday, 24 June 2022 19:11 (one year ago) link

yeah not holding out much hope for the kid

Heez, Friday, 24 June 2022 19:22 (one year ago) link

the guy who fell that i cant believe is ej liddell, he was projected in the 20s, maybe even teens, but went 41 to new orleans. undersized PF, but a good weak-side defender and had developed outside range. got some millsap to his game.

good luck

“Rob Pelinka says he and Davin Ham have had multiple meetings with Russell Westbrook and have been honest about Russ' role on the team and that he needs to be a defense-first player.”
