Bob said on Pit Stop - you have to play the hits for this kind of runway. I agree sort of but I kinda liked that Shea went to that look. I just think it was understyled/under-padded maybe & definitely she needed more hair

the fit in the pants was not great

The relentlessly positive judging really annoyed me this week. In a normal episode, they would have dragged Jinkx for a corset with a bit of net stuck on it, which didn't reference the original outfit one bit. And they would've remarked that both Trinity and Viv did the exact same silhouette they always do. And that Shea obviously ran out of time and just wore leggings and a bit of a ruffle and a headscarf. I mean, I liked the outfit, but that was not her original intention at all.

Jesus, that was painful.

trishyb, Saturday, 2 July 2022 13:28 (one year ago) link

the overly positive judging was okay when everybody was doing great but not so much anymore

scanner darkly, Saturday, 2 July 2022 17:27 (one year ago) link

yes but THE RUNWAY OMG

terminators of endearment (VegemiteGrrl), Saturday, 2 July 2022 17:40 (one year ago) link

Runway ruled. Whatever else is happening, that’s produced some stunners.

Drag Race France off to an engaging start, I thought. Nicky’s a pretty good host!

Ned Raggett, Sunday, 3 July 2022 13:48 (one year ago) link

Runway was amazing. The first time ever I have taken screenshots to study further later on. I could knit some of those things.

trishyb, Sunday, 3 July 2022 14:03 (one year ago) link

now THAT was a fuckin lipsync

terminators of endearment (VegemiteGrrl), Saturday, 9 July 2022 20:39 (one year ago) link

Haven't done anything quite like that since the Untucked lipsync competition in season 5 I think.

Ned Raggett, Sunday, 10 July 2022 01:19 (one year ago) link

Maybe it's just the heat, but some of those workroom outfits just look so fab and comfortable. The outfit Raja had on just after they de-dragged at the start of the episode just looked like the coolest, most easy gar-mahnt I've ever seen.

trishyb, Saturday, 16 July 2022 10:55 (one year ago) link

Well deserved, that relaxation. Fun episode.

New Canada season seems promising!

Ned Raggett, Sunday, 17 July 2022 20:15 (one year ago) link

forgot to post my thoughts on the roast ep:

- wintergreen!! it was great to have her back
- a roast is not the same as the library, and a lot of the jokes were more like library reads
- the lighting for the runway was weird and didn't do justice to most of the outfits

the new canada season seems underwhelming so far, the hosting is just as horrible as the first 2 seasons (it's like double the pretentiousness of the original but without any of the charm) and i'm disappointed with whom they sent home first.

scanner darkly, Friday, 22 July 2022 00:22 (one year ago) link

loved what we could see of the runway, unbelievable outfits & creativity my god

challenge was v good, love a good roast & i kinda thought viv wouldve won outright or at least got second place

on the lipsync i am aligned with willam on the race chaser pod, it was bad, i wouldnt tip i would send an invoice and that jinx looked like “a teenage bette davis in the crucible”

terminators of endearment (VegemiteGrrl), Friday, 22 July 2022 02:16 (one year ago) link

Yeah, the lipsync was awful. But as soon as one queen started getting into another's airspace, it was obvious who was going to win.

trishyb, Friday, 22 July 2022 16:44 (one year ago) link

the “twist” was one of the most rigor morrs things in the history of drag race. why couldn’t they at least make it slightly more interesting? like giving 2 stars and having a lipsync and the winner gets another star and breaks the tie? it pretty much erased the work from the previous episodes.

although not a big deal really as i learned to treat this season as a showcase and not a competition, and it’s been a really joyful season at that.

scanner darkly, Saturday, 23 July 2022 18:35 (one year ago) link

I called the three stars before Ru said it. What I thought was really unfair to everyone involved was having Monét choose the last finalist on the spot. It really feels like a game rather than a competition at this point and even though the prize money is higher than it's ever been, the stakes don't feel that important.

LeRooLeRoo, Monday, 25 July 2022 12:41 (one year ago) link

Brooke Lynn never seems like she's actually *talking* -- just reciting.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 25 July 2022 14:40 (one year ago) link

as adore would say, very that!

--

some fun math..

if they gave just 1 star in the last ep with the same winners the final four would be:
jinx, trinity, monet and jaida

if there was no blocking and no handing out extra stars (so just actual wins) the final four would be:
jinx, trinity, monet and the vivienne

(which explains the vivienne not looking very happy there at the end)

and on the official insta, #teamjinx has more likes than the rest combined!

BTW the chaos energy Vanjie brought to the Pit Stop was next level.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 26 July 2022 04:24 (one year ago) link

lol yeah she was great

Monet’s opera was so incredible!!!!
I loved Shea’s performance too; i just wish that Raja couldve been in the top for hers as well bc it was beautiful

terminators of endearment (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 26 July 2022 05:13 (one year ago) link

i thought the energy on that pitstop was weird

and vanjie is guest judging on next canada drag race, shall be interesting

scanner darkly, Tuesday, 26 July 2022 05:22 (one year ago) link

the finale was somewhat anticlimactic but it was nice to have a chance to see these queens lipsyncing against each other, and the rightful queen won

and holy fuck that lipsync on drag race france..

scanner darkly, Sunday, 31 July 2022 04:18 (one year ago) link

Yeah to my mind that was the real emotional highlight of the week in Drag Race. Unexpected but I felt that.

Perfectly happy with the All Stars winners but yeah the journey was better than the end for this series. Still, fun to see it all!

Vanjie on Canada was fun. Brooke still not quite human but seems a little looser.

Ned Raggett, Sunday, 31 July 2022 04:29 (one year ago) link

I’m really irritated about my favourite going home in week two of Canada’s Drag Race. She got hosed!

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Sunday, 31 July 2022 11:33 (one year ago) link

Unsurprisingly Race Chaser's been perfect listening for going over the finale.

Alaska: "They don't get critiqued, they get named a thing."

Willam (flatly): "Which is...just...wonderful."

lol otm

terminators of endearment (VegemiteGrrl), Wednesday, 3 August 2022 18:59 (one year ago) link

Anyway we now need The VG Report since the second season of DR Down Under has begun. Sausage sizzlers were on the menu.

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 3 August 2022 22:00 (one year ago) link

dude its all i can do to watch allstars & us seasons!
i dont have Wow Plus & seriously cannot be bothered to watch nine other countries’ drag races airing seemingly simultaneously every week

its too overwhelming

terminators of endearment (VegemiteGrrl), Wednesday, 3 August 2022 22:04 (one year ago) link

This...is true. (Anyway I think this season feels smoother than the first one already, but we'll see. I will say the most overtly annoying 'you don't have to speak THAT loud' queen left in the first episode so that was a plus.)

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 3 August 2022 22:05 (one year ago) link

Yes I find myself lately quite confused what series I’ve been watching or is airing; between all stars, regular, Canada and France (in honour of our quebecois brethren) I just watch a constant stream of drag without really ever knowing what’s going on

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Thursday, 4 August 2022 01:34 (one year ago) link

I only watch the ones that RuPaul hosts, because otherwise I spend so much time reading the subtitles that I don't get a good look at the lewks (please forgive me), and I didn't really like the first season of Canada. Also, like Veg, I just have other things in my life. But I have to have WOW+ even to see the "core" shows. The subscription is also worth it for the non-bleeped editions of UNNNnnh.

trishyb, Thursday, 4 August 2022 07:37 (one year ago) link

This last point is urgent and key.

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 4 August 2022 14:00 (one year ago) link

I love it so much.

trishyb, Thursday, 4 August 2022 16:53 (one year ago) link

Today's Drag Race France was pretty good I thought! In contrast to last week's emotional-as-hell lip sync here everything built to a (kinda preordained as you could tell) three lip-sync off to determine the actual top three for the final, and it was all good spirits and being your best, combined with the makeover challenge. Kinda made up for the anticlimax of All Stars!

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 4 August 2022 20:44 (one year ago) link

we were quite shocked to realize we watched 27 seasons so far. we've yet to see all stars season 2 - we were waiting for a break between regular seasons but it's like a full time job now. we did try to get into drag race france but with closed captioning it does feel like you're missing too much, including double entendres and inner jokes and such (still, episode 6 is a must see for any DR fan!). and drag race canada is becoming a bit of a, well, drag.

Unsurprisingly Race Chaser's been perfect listening for going over the finale.

Alaska: "They don't get critiqued, they get named a thing."

with 0 critiques on all winners it's been more fun than usual watching pitstop / fashion ruview. BOOT!

scanner darkly, Friday, 5 August 2022 02:50 (one year ago) link

Hahah yes I've been slack on the Ruview, I'm sure Violet was not having it at least half the time.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 5 August 2022 04:19 (one year ago) link

Man, Down Under is so amateur looking. Not just the queens themselves (hi dere parade of corsets with stuff glued on), but the whole production. The lighting is awful, the editing is odd, and the whole thing just looks like it was put together for fifty quid. It's a good thing the queens are so funny.

trishyb, Friday, 5 August 2022 14:39 (one year ago) link

This is VERY true.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 5 August 2022 14:56 (one year ago) link

Huge outdoors drag show here in Montréal last night for Fierté/Pride. Hosted by Rita Baga, who did an awesome job, highlights included La Big Bertha, Priyanka, Nicky Doll, Kylie Sonique Love, Silky Nutmeg Ganache, Ada Vox, Pithya, Ra'Ja O'Hara, Lawrence Cheney, and so many more I can't remember right now. They ended the show with a medley of 20 Céline Dion song clips done by each queen. It was a lot of fun !

we did try to get into drag race france but with closed captioning it does feel like you're missing too much, including double entendres and inner jokes and such

I've only seen the first episode, but I can't turn off the English subtitles for some reason and they are pretty bad. Not only for the humor, sometimes it's just plain mistakes.

LeRooLeRoo, Friday, 5 August 2022 20:55 (one year ago) link

Good lord, that's a great fucking lineup.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 5 August 2022 21:08 (one year ago) link

the last canada ep lipsync was pretty fierce, i half expected double save but that would break this season established tradition of reliably getting rid of the most promising queens

scanner darkly, Tuesday, 16 August 2022 03:33 (one year ago) link

Oh, is Down Under sponsored by Samsung? I hardly noticed!

trishyb, Saturday, 27 August 2022 13:12 (one year ago) link

(I don't care, it's just funny how they 'subtly' try to work in the new flip phones.)

trishyb, Saturday, 27 August 2022 13:12 (one year ago) link

Ha I didn't even think of that but of course. (Clearly it's working on me!)

Drag Race Philippines has been pretty enjoyable so far, honestly.

Ned Raggett, Sunday, 28 August 2022 00:38 (one year ago) link

two weeks pass...

Drag Race Down Under had a satisfactory conclusion, but then I was a bit put off when I read that the winner had previously won a Shmu Shmaul's Shmag Shmace competition in 2020. Which also explains why there's a Drag Race Down Under in the first place.

I also watched the first episode of Jinkx's Sketchy Queens, and it wasn't incredible, but I enjoyed it. It deserves extra writers and a wider audience.

half-assedly dragging myself through the UK season but at least we got what was one of the best exits in the franchise history

Drag Race Philippines was amazing BTW, might be my favorite iteration since Spain debuted.

three weeks pass...

Drag Race UK is still going, in case anyone was wondering. And the acting challenge was terrible, as per.

Season 15! Just me, eh? Seems like we could have some fireworks this season.
