1.) coach Ime Udoka didn’t trust his bench; 2.) the Celtics had issues running a cohesive offense against an elite defense; and 3.) Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum handled the ball far too much and hence made turnovers trying to create their own shot.

in particular

It may be time to lighten the responsibility from Marcus Smart, sign a quality backup point guard that could shift Smart to shooting guard in a small lineup and jumpstart the offense in the fourth quarter. The Celtics offense was stagnant all season late in games and that has to be addressed because that stagnation likely cost them a championship.

but what of derrick white?

The hope for the Celtics is White improves over the summer and is benefited by a full training camp. But his struggles punctuate the Celtics’ need for a knockdown shooter off the bench. Stevens filled the roster with defenders, turning the Celtics into the league’s No. 1 defense.

But what happens when those defenders can’t score? That was their primary issue.

It wasn't that Ime didn't trust his bench, he just had no options and versatility there. Practically ever player in uniform for GS was in the rotation at some point during the season. Cs were all in on their 8.5 man rotation but when Grant lost the magic and White got cold he had no other options. Feel like he gave Pritchard and Theis the exact right minutes but those should've been the 4th and 5th or even 6th guys off the bench, not the 3rd and 4th.

Lavator Shemmelpennick, Monday, 20 June 2022 20:26 (one year ago) link

yeah not really a trust thing, grant and theis just didn't fit the matchup. white played plenty of minutes but wasn't good

lag∞n, Thursday, 14 July 2022 22:35 (one year ago) link

speaking of learning to shoot is there any hope for nesmith

micah, Friday, 15 July 2022 14:09 (one year ago) link

yeah i think there is, seems like he just never found his rhythm, but if he does he could be a pretty ideal 3 and d guy

lag∞n, Friday, 15 July 2022 14:15 (one year ago) link

nesmith knocked em down in warmups and was a jumpy mess every time he got in a game. he should benefit from reps in a lower-pressure setting.

good news for our white gazelle

The Italian National Team announced that Danilo Gallinari suffered a meniscus tear in his left knee.

He suffered no ACL or ligament damage however. Here’s the play where it happened: https://t.co/L3FKTKSXsK

Meniscus can be just as bad

Spottie, Monday, 29 August 2022 05:18 (one year ago) link

so it was the ACL after all lol

Tracer Hand, Saturday, 3 September 2022 10:51 (one year ago) link

Gallinari first suffered this injury with the Nuggets back in April 2013 and had a “healing response” alternative procedure by Dr. Richard Steadman in Colorado to attempt a less invasive surgery that could fix the knee. The surgery was ultimately unsuccessful and he had to have a full repair in January 2014, causing him to miss the entire 2o13-14 season.

He said he would write a book about the ordeal one day, noting that several other athletes such as Russell Westbrook had the same procedure done at the Steadman clinic and still had to have follow-up surgery.

Tracer Hand, Saturday, 3 September 2022 10:52 (one year ago) link

can't wait to read danilo gallinari's muckraking exposé of the richard steadman clinic
