Surely the £500m is just the total cost for all swimming pools in the UK? (c 4,000 pools) xps

groovypanda, Saturday, 18 June 2022 15:41 (one year ago) link

it's all his fault for putting "the cost of running a pool..."

statistical error: fancy piscine georg, who keeps his pool filled with champagne and diamonds, is an outlier adn should not have been counted

mark s, Saturday, 18 June 2022 16:01 (one year ago) link

There's an estimated 210,000 private swimming pools in the UK (not including the secret underground Russian oligarch ones built under a veil of secrecy like Gus Fring's meth lab)

calzino, Saturday, 18 June 2022 16:16 (one year ago) link

All the funny money Russian pools join together beneath the streets of Kensington to form a vast underground ocean, in which novel crystalline-based life-forms are developed for reasons unknown. Or so I've heard.

Agency workers are going to run rail infrastructure?

EXCL: Ministers will this week change the law to allow striking workers to be replaced temporarily by agency staff.

Too late for this week’s RMT strike but likely to be in force by mid-July https://t.co/ZosjyrO01V

Lol come on.

The Telegraph would never run the Johnson/Carrie story in the first place out of loyalty, which is why it became a joke. What grates so much about this is that the Times had prided & marketed itself as a custodian of pluralism, free speech and argument, in an age of extremism

I see Starmer's pathetic equivocation on the strikes has worked out well for him. The Mail is portraying him as Jimmy Hoffa. The Tories are characterising them as "The Labour Strikes". Mostly everyone else with any sympathy for the strikes consider him a natural enemy of unionised labour and a complete arsehole 👏👏👏

calzino, Monday, 20 June 2022 18:16 (one year ago) link

Pray for the guillotine for this lot every day.

Michael Green sold a "toolkit" for $497 which promised buyers earnings of $20,000 in 20 days. Upon purchase, the kit was revealed to be an ebook, advising the user to create their own toolkit and recruit 100 "Joint Venture Partners" to resell it for a share of the profits.

I heard some snivelling Tory shit use the term "transferable skills" in relation to their strategy to cope with rail strikes. Was only half listening but this but my understanding of it was that they would happily compromise rail safety just to get those trains running and teach those unions a lesson.

Finally some opposition

Criminal barristers vote overwhelmingly to strike from next Monday - shutting down courts - in their dispute with Govt over legal aid funding (the cash that pays for defence, allowing many trials to get on). Decision comes after @TheCriminalBar ballot

what if, a child, an orphan, is due to meet his new family today in London at Euston station. A new start, after his parents were cruelly taken…on 9/11…an end to the horror that gripped the world. But the trains are cancelled. The orphan stands cold, alone, in Crewe. What then?
