You'd think there was nothing else happening in the world but some old song by Kate Bush becoming a hit.
The song is now a No. 1 in the UK, so we've had another week of this shite making the national news when there's a cost of living crisis, rail strikes, political resignations, the UK trying to dump refugees in the middle of Africa, Northern Ireland about to go tits up, a war in Europe etc.

The UK media is full of "men of a certain age", of course.
― Doodles Diamond (Tom D.), Saturday, 18 June 2022 14:04 (one year ago) link
Kate Bush news has pushed all other news off the airwaves? Damn.
― Malevolent Arugula (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Saturday, 18 June 2022 15:11 (one year ago) link
Yeah, it’s really too bad that people can’t possibly think about more than one thing at a time, or enjoy a song while keeping informed on the situation in Ukraine.

Watching the TV news in the UK are you?
― Doodles Diamond (Tom D.), Saturday, 18 June 2022 19:10 (one year ago) link
No, didn't think so.

seeing old wankers on Murdoch/BBC media programs where the entertainment coverage is always dismal and they are doing 5 minute reports on this and bluffing that they are both massive Kate Bush fans and they absolutely love the awful netflix show as well is quite annoying tbh. Especially after 5th or 6th time.
― calzino, Saturday, 18 June 2022 19:17 (one year ago) link
Indeed. But we only live here and have seen the coverage so what do we know?

You need more compassion for people whose main form of entertainment on a Saturday evening is British tv.
― Luna Schlosser, Saturday, 18 June 2022 20:45 (one year ago) link
Good thing you don't live in America where the BBC World service is about as good as tv news gets and items on local/regional news shows might include what's new on the menu at Dunkin Donuts or now streaming on Disney Plus.

Live & Let Die is on ITV now, so not all bad. And on BBC2 there's uh a two hour Stereophonics live show? What?

BBC WS still occasionally has some decent programs and reports from other parts of the world, but I switch over when they broadcast either NPR shite or news reports on the oh so exciting commercial synergy between Kate Bush and some fucking shite netflix series.
― calzino, Saturday, 18 June 2022 21:14 (one year ago) link
This has absolutely nothing to do with anything, so I don't know why it's been posted again? It still makes no sense.

tbf I overheard the Kate Bush segment on BBC World News last night while puttering around, it went on seemingly forever and included an interview with the music supervisor on Stranger Things. I figured it would be a 10-15 second bit and was a little taken aback myself.

Tom D's post makes sense though I am in the UK and don't watch news on TV anymore so don't get the exposure. I think that's a plus for twitter where I get a sense of all the actual crises while keeping fluff like this to a minimum.

I'd rather watch live footage of a cholera outbreak, but that does put me way outside "the things you don't care about" remit! But the idea of being in a field with 200000 people makes me feel physically ill. My brother went once and came back boasting that he spent an hour chatting with Timothy Mallett at a bar there, imagine boasting about that.

Slightly interesting that Dave Grohl seems to be much more newsworthy than Bruce Springsteen in the coverage of this world shattering event. Bruce is only mentioned as an afterthought.
