This sounds great.

TIOJR: Sam Prekop was born in the UK.

That’s pretty slick, hope there’s a vinyl release

no vinyl as yet, tho there was a limited-to-100 cassette that's already gone.

and yeah: this is good. vaguely reminiscent of caverns of anti-matter and other nameless 90s white label downtempo jams. already been bnm'd too. good lookin, phil.

oh man this is sweet

J Edgar Noothgrush (Joan Crawford Loves Chachi), Saturday, 30 July 2022 23:48 (one year ago) link

yeah its good. never in a million years would've guessed who made it

frogbs, Saturday, 30 July 2022 23:51 (one year ago) link

at some points, it feels like a mixtape of sea and cake demos. like i'm thinking of songs like "new patterns", "inn keeping", "fuller moon", "the invitations" — those songs they sometimes do that morph towards the end into synth vamps. this album is full of just those parts. it's really fun.

Just cottoned on to this album, I love it. Sorta Lindstrom vibes on some of it.

Weird. Can't find a copy in the UK (well, I've looked online in four shops).

I don’t know about LPs, but CDs were apparently limited to …. 100 copies! Yikes. Keeping my fingers crossed for a reissue, eventually.

The Triumphant Return of Bernard & Stubbs (Raymond Cummings), Sunday, 4 September 2022 12:31 (one year ago) link

It was the cassette that was limited to 100, the CD is "very limited" but the quantity was never clarified.

Evan, Sunday, 4 September 2022 13:31 (one year ago) link

Ah, my mistake! Thanks.

Every time I play this I hear some new element.

I see Prekop has *another* album out https://samprekop.bandcamp.com/album/the-sparrow

It really is

Tim F, Saturday, 17 September 2022 05:02 (one year ago) link

Weird. Convinced myself that I pre-ordered The Sparrow but can't find any evidence of this, at all! This happens more than it should ...

djh, Saturday, 17 September 2022 07:44 (one year ago) link

Oh, I did. Boomkat has it in the UK.

djh, Saturday, 17 September 2022 07:47 (one year ago) link

I just ordered the CD from Amoeba, $19.99, free shipping

Sons Of would make for a neat little 10" imo

Evan, Monday, 19 September 2022 19:27 (one year ago) link

dunno if you could get a 23 minute track on a 10"

you could do a 10" + 12". wonder how many albums actually get released that way.

frogbs, Monday, 19 September 2022 19:53 (one year ago) link

Oh right

Evan, Monday, 19 September 2022 20:19 (one year ago) link

Just realized that (unless something changes between now and year’s end) I’m gonna wind up with two albums featuring members of Tortoise in my top ten album’s list

This probably has happened before, but it’s been a while

I was very surprised to see that this wasn't nominated for the EOY poll, thought people were really into this record

it was, i voted it

Oh cool

change display name (Jordan), Monday, 23 January 2023 15:45 (one year ago) link

i figured other folks would rep for it. i liked it, but was just into other stuff in the second half of the year.

but ya: it's fun, good, and worthwhile.

"i'm grateful." (Austin), Monday, 23 January 2023 16:02 (one year ago) link

I'll admit it's a while since I've listened to it, but my memory of a golden summer evening with it was enough to win my vote.

Shard-borne Beatles with their drowsy hums (Chinaski), Monday, 23 January 2023 16:24 (one year ago) link

This album still rules.

I would prefer not to. (Chinaski), Sunday, 31 March 2024 18:56 (two weeks ago) link

I didnt realize they made a vinyl pressing of this, might have to grab that

frogbs, Sunday, 31 March 2024 19:22 (two weeks ago) link

I must check this out. It totally passed me by at the time. I've been listening to Prekop's "Comma" album a lot lately again. That was a lockdown favourite.

Saxophone Of Futility (Michael B), Tuesday, 2 April 2024 19:22 (two weeks ago) link

This allbum is so so good

Davey D, Tuesday, 2 April 2024 19:55 (two weeks ago) link

yeah, it's one of my all-time "not my normal zone but i love this so, so much" albums.

alpine static, Tuesday, 2 April 2024 20:57 (two weeks ago) link

co-sign. I'd normally listen to something like this once or twice, but this one really withstands unlimited repeats.
(another album in this sweet spot for me is also a tortoise-adjacent project: Mondays at the Enfield Tennis Academy)

enochroot, Tuesday, 2 April 2024 21:31 (two weeks ago) link

thread revive prompted a revisit: yep, still good as heck. so satisfying too ― even for these guys, it's a peak.

cover also has me thinking of a thread idea: album covers that perfectly represent the music.

(maybe it's already been done?)

(also i may be speaking from experience: mute the proper audio + play this album as the soundtrack for a "funny cats" compilation youtube video. it works.)
