Lol @ that Chessum thread and the mention of Another Europe is Possible. "Impossible to have disagreements on the left" is the language bad people use.

Unlike many others, I haven't read THE STARMER PROJECT. But if I was having doubts about its merit, this tweet is tending to dispel them.

It's a dire book - apart from the "bad Keir theory of history" it skips really critical events in Starmer's rise - like the 2019 conference fiasco - with barely a paragraph. Either you were there, or you do your research thoroughly.

— Paul Mason (@paulmasonnews) June 3, 2022

the pinefox, Saturday, 4 June 2022 12:21 (one year ago) link

Eagleton deserves criticism for the brexit section but the parts on Starmer's DPP era are excellent and tell you more about what kind of a scumbag he is than Mason claiming he's going to advance the struggle, lol!

calzino, Saturday, 4 June 2022 12:28 (one year ago) link

*class struggle*

calzino, Saturday, 4 June 2022 12:28 (one year ago) link

but anyway, yesa Mason is such a duplicitous moron, that when he says something is wrong and bad then perhaps take it with a pinch of salt because he's not a serious person at all.

calzino, Saturday, 4 June 2022 12:30 (one year ago) link

i think that’s what pinefox was getting at, among a swarm of double negatives lol :)

Tracer Hand, Saturday, 4 June 2022 12:35 (one year ago) link

Mason popped up on a BBC WS program as some kind of social media misinformation eggspurt the other day, of course someone who has shat himself in public so many times will be very concerned about people who haven't got 500K+ followers taking the piss out of him for being an incomprehensible bullshit merchant and f/t clown at the best of times

some arseholes in Wakefield! Polling suggests they'll piss the byelection despite Starmer's dictatorial selection process angering the local clp and creating disquiet in the area. If it's a low turnout it might be more closely run than the polling suggests.

this is the app that has turned everyone into Banky. I got some amusing results from "kier starmer drinking piss out of a wellington boot" and "kier starmer passionately kissing jimmy savile". I did a Corbyn one and it made look like Popeye, lol.

calzino, Sunday, 5 June 2022 13:26 (one year ago) link

The BBC programme that Calzino refers to is actually quite sinister. My understanding is that the journalist involved has tried to get one of the people interviewed / challenged on the programme (a socialist media analyst) fired from his job. It seems that Mason has been involved with this, certainly seems to have approved of it.

In other words it's going beyond knockabout allegations, let alone the free exchange of ideas, into a level more like McCarthyism.

the pinefox, Sunday, 5 June 2022 13:45 (one year ago) link

I'd not read that background story to the program, the journalist who did it is also an old work colleague of Mason's from his ch 4 News days.

calzino, Sunday, 5 June 2022 13:52 (one year ago) link

It's one thing being concerned about mostly insignificant people clicking like on Russian state affiliated media posts. But Mason with his biggish media platform accusing rando lefties of being Putin apologists is not good. Although one of the college lecturers featured on the program was an anti vaxer.

67 letters of no confidence? Enjoyed this para from Shipperz' analysis

<Q>If there is a contest Liz Truss, the foreign secretary, will present herself as a proto-Thatcherite tax cutter. Her allies hope that Priti Patel, the home secretary, also runs, as one senior Tory put it, “so she is not the lunatic".<q>

Biggest problem is the Tories don't have an issue like Brexit anymore, a neat trick that they can sell to the public as a means of recovery.

Inflation, bills going up, a potential slow down in the housing market. That's what they are fighting. Doesn't feel like the war in Ukraine will provide enough cover.

xyzzzz__, Monday, 6 June 2022 09:02 (one year ago) link

Will Paul Mason please explain why he’s creating Nixonian hit lists of “targets” to “permanently rebut”, including the Black community, Muslims, and Trade Unions?

Surely this should impact his prospective candidacy as a Labour MP? @paulmasonnews @AaronBastani pic.twitter.com/G6N4ybfAjk

— Women for Wes (@Women4Wes) June 5, 2022

Mason's loopy map of the UK left, that apparently he emailed to a bbc journo, is possibly more evidence of his McCarthyite derangement and depending on how seriously you take it absolutely racist as well.

apart from the one I linked above

GN seems to think that ejecting the current PM would lead to the Con government 'starting afresh with energy and decency'.

Do the right thing @Conservatives MP’s. He degrades our nation and highest office. He’s a liar and the British people have no faith in him at all. Let’s start afresh with energy and decency to tackle major issues on health, education, climate change and the cost of living 🙌

— Gary Neville (@GNev2) June 6, 2022

the pinefox, Monday, 6 June 2022 11:26 (one year ago) link

I much prefer low energy Tory governments, why on earth would you want a driven one that's in a hurry to achieve their aims?

calzino, Monday, 6 June 2022 11:53 (one year ago) link

The people who talked about it were branded as IRA loving terrorists.

What is most striking about UK politics seen from afar is the impression (accurate?) of near-zero discussion about the long term direction of the country. Just never-ending Westminster soap opera, empty positioning where policies and ideas should be, politics consuming itself.
