Marion Barber, Cowboys runningback

Marion Barber was the definition of a tenacious runner. He always made something out of nothing.

This was the most incredible 2-yard run ever.

Synth pioneer Dave Smith of Sequential Circuits. Created many iconic synths, namely the Prophet 5, and drove the creation of MIDI. That alone was world changing.

RIP, Tin Drum wouldn't have sounded the same without him. Speaking of which, Tom Oberheim is still with us at 85!

and you will know us by the trail of crisps (Matt #2), Thursday, 2 June 2022 09:19 (one year ago) link

The 1980s wouldn't have sounded the same without him! As was once noted, it's quicker to list the artists from the era who *didn't* use the Prophet-5, than those who did. RIP.

hello duckness my old friend (Noodle Vague), Thursday, 2 June 2022 10:23 (one year ago) link

I had a drum tracks but traded it for someone’s second 707, as I already had a DMX. I have a prophet 600 which was always great but I got the gigli upgrade and now it’s even better. When I was in high school I wanted an analog synth at a time when they weren’t so collectible and almost bought a pro one, I think it was like 300 bucks! Big mistake. Also almost bought a Prophet 3000 sampler from Wine Country. Did own a Yamaha TG33 which owed some degree of influence as Smith brought the vector tech to Korg and Yamaha post sequential.

Howard Johnson's restaurants. Although the last one, in Lake George, NY, was really an ex-HoJo gone independent that reverted to the name without having any connection to the original company.

HJ had so much nostalgia power for a certain generation I'm surprised no one successfully exploited the trademark.

Great clip circulating of her talking to Benfica coach Jorge Jesus:

Jorge Jesus: "I wish you much health so you can keep doing your paintings"

Paula Rego: "same to you, good luck with all the footballs and goals"

Floyd Gondolli: I'm not a complicated man. I like cinema. In particular, I like to see people fucking on film. But, I don't want to win an Oscar and I don't want to re-invent the wheel. I like simple pleasures, like butter in my ass and lollipops in my mouth. That's just me. That's just something that I enjoy. Call me crazy, call me a pervert. But, there's one little thing that I'mg going to do in this life and that is I'm going to make a dollar and a cent in this business.

His role in Hard Eight is one of my favorites of the last 30 years. I saw it without knowing he was in Secret Honor and sat there astounded.

Malevolent Arugula (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Monday, 13 June 2022 17:26 (one year ago) link

last year i rewatched Midnight Run, which came out like 40 years ago, and was astounded that PBH looked just as old back then. i guess he was already in his 50s by that point. great actor.

na (NA), Monday, 13 June 2022 17:35 (one year ago) link

oh what a great actor, like George C Scott his presence could elevate an average movie into a great one that you re-watch umpteen times.

calzino, Monday, 13 June 2022 17:47 (one year ago) link

So good and yet underused. I always expected him to get more leading actor work on the back of his incredible PTA roles, and that never seemed to happen, or at least not often enough.

Chuck_Tatum, Monday, 13 June 2022 18:15 (one year ago) link

I mean Hard 8 is not a great film by any measurement but he’s incredible in it.

Chuck_Tatum, Monday, 13 June 2022 18:16 (one year ago) link

yeah it would have been been a completely forgettable b movie without him.
