A truly phenomenal shirt, fork

yes!

(i was v v sad that the shirt wasn't the subject of today's jeopardy overheard clip. which i won't link to and which nobody who doesn't want a spoiler should watch!)

Well played, forks.

Thanks y'all! I was obvs disappointed but the old saws are accurate: the buzzer speed is really the key, it feels different when you're up there, etc.
woulda had a pretty reasonable chance at getting him if i had gotten the double and i bet correctly. Just didn't get it from the context clues. That's the game!

This has to be the craziest run of shows in a season ever. I got to think Alex would be cracking up.

For all that I've read about Psycho, and Hitchcock in general, over the years, I never knew until last night that the Bates Motel was inspired by a Hopper painting.

two months pass...

I guess I missed somewhere that Ken is the new permanent host, and Mayim will go back to handling the special primetime stuff.

overdue if true

i cannot help if you made yourself not funny (forksclovetofu), Monday, 12 September 2022 23:44 (one year ago) link

Ken doing the next three months of regular Jeop, including Tournament of Champions, while Mayim does hour-long Celebrity Jeop tournament on Sunday nights; then Mayim scheduled to have another run on daily eps in or from January.

Vance Vance Devolution (sic), Tuesday, 13 September 2022 18:44 (one year ago) link

that really seemed like the direction they were going and - barring the shitshow - should have gone from the start: give fans Ken for the regular show and then give tourists Mayim.

i cannot help if you made yourself not funny (forksclovetofu), Tuesday, 13 September 2022 20:14 (one year ago) link

It doesn’t seem to be a change per se (yet) - they’ve traded off since the shitshow as their schedules allowed; now there’s a block of primetime specials (a few days’ taping?) for Mayim to do as per her initial contract, so she won’t be on the nightly show until it’s over.

Presumably there was some major panic behind the scenes with the post-shit-shedu-show, and they will now have more time to find specials for Mayim going forward, so her regular episodes will be fewer…

It’d be fun to have Ken banter with the slebs, but definitely better to have him piloting the TO’C.

mayim hosting TOC would've been a national disaster

Rowan Ward was really impressive in the second chance tournament.

exhibition episode was fun. would be wild if mattea wins the tournament

flopson, Wednesday, 9 November 2022 06:32 (one year ago) link

i felt like matt was playing possum a bit

johnny crunch, Wednesday, 9 November 2022 12:58 (one year ago) link

seemed like he was treating it purely as buzzer practice, not a bad idea honestly

nobody like my rap (One Eye Open), Wednesday, 9 November 2022 13:12 (one year ago) link

I loved it. There should be a whole season of Jeopardy with just those three. Such a fun game. And "I will bet 2500...magic beans" made me lol (think it was Mattea who said that?)

I also noticed that Mattea started saying "What's." Wonder if Amodio thought, "Hey, you're stealing my bit!"

Montgomery Burns' Jazz (Tarfumes The Escape Goat), Wednesday, 9 November 2022 15:34 (one year ago) link

Yes! That game was such a blast...Ken Jennings swearing (and having to be bleeped!) after accidentally giving away an answer, Mattea getting audience reactions from her saying "that was my favorite song when I was 4" (as if it was some intentional sick burn - I don't think it was) and then later on Amy saying (after a correct response) "that was my favorite song when I was 27"...Ken poking fun at Matt (after Amy said she was invited to the White House after her winning streak) for him throwing the first pitch at a minor-league game after his winning streak. I don't follow any sports...I can't remember the last time I've been this excited by any competitive event, honestly.

ernestp, Thursday, 10 November 2022 02:20 (one year ago) link

yes that game was a blast. pretty interesting that mattea wiped the floor with the three of them buzzer wise. would love for the three of them to come back and do a more competitive game for charity or something.

J0rdan S., Friday, 11 November 2022 05:29 (one year ago) link

amy was pretty unflappable in the semifinal. tyler is a strong player but she kinda ended up cruising. it could’ve been an even bigger margin had she not guessed wrong off two of tyler’s misses in double jeopardy

the matt semifinal game was amazing, one of the best jeopardy games i’ve ever seen. they got the daily doubles off the board within like the first 5 clues which i think really hurt matt given the aggressive nature of his wagering. he was only able to get up from 4,000 to 8,000 and then had to play the rest of the game more or less heads up with the other two guys. it didn’t break his way. i also was completely shocked at his final jeopardy wager, it feels like he sometimes psychs himself out under pressure. ken even called out how strong he is in geography. i don’t think it would’ve mattered in the end but that was wild. the professor guy who won is a really strong player. sad we won’t be getting the amy/matt/mattea final tho

J0rdan S., Friday, 11 November 2022 05:34 (one year ago) link

rip Matt, would’ve prob taken him against the field but he seemed somewhat unengaged especially as the game wore on and he didn’t grab his usual advantage

Clay, Friday, 11 November 2022 05:36 (one year ago) link

FYI, Jeopardy uploaded the entire exhibition game to YouTube here. Ken's amusing mess-up is at 9:39.

Today game (Mattea's semifinal game) was wild - no spoilers here, but one moment in particular had big gasps from the audience.

ernestp, Friday, 11 November 2022 21:37 (one year ago) link

All three players in the Amodio semi had a good game. The middle guy had a good game considering he did not get any of the daily doubles.

After the professor tournament, I thought that guy might do pretty well as him and the guy who was runner up in that tournament both seemed to know a boodle of obscure stuff.

I still don't get Matt going 'zero' on final jeopardy with a geography question as that seemed to be one subject he would tear through in his winning reign.

Today's is not on here until 730, I have not seen it yet.

earlnash, Friday, 11 November 2022 23:44 (one year ago) link

didnt realize the finals format is a race to 3, that is cool

So happy she won. Does this mean there'll be a game in the future with her, James Holzhauer, and Brad Rutter? Because I wanna see her win that one, too.
