And then realised I was reading my own review from last month.
Hahahah I did the same thing looking at a lovely fuzzy sweater on a clothing website I buy from regularly. "ooh that jumper looks nice" I think, "and its got some good reviews... oh wait thats my review". I'd already bought said jumper.

not sure if this isn't one for the backward steps thread, or whether it's just bad ux, but i feel like an idiot for being incapable of learning.
there's a tweet, under the tweet there's a word balloon with 260 next to it, the number of comments on this tweet. i click on it to read them... and up pops a box for me to add my comment. you have to click the (tiny, unobvious) time above the text, the '1hr' or whatever, to read the actual comments. (or is there a better way?)
― koogs, Monday, 13 June 2022 15:45 (one year ago) link
Don't you just click anywhere on the Tweet (anywhere that isn't another thing like a link, profile name etc) and it then 'goes to' that tweet, then scroll down to see the replies?
― kinder, Monday, 13 June 2022 16:17 (one year ago) link
but like you say if the tweet is a video you just get the video player, no replies. and if it's a link to a web page it just takes you there. it's not always obvious, they all look like pictures, and sometimes it's 90% unclickable
― koogs, Monday, 13 June 2022 21:05 (one year ago) link
I have struggled with this in the past but just tried and clicking on the line at the top (tweeter/tweet time) works for me, it's not that tiny in my app.

I made myself a bowl of cereal (if you're interested: bran flakes, raisins, milled seeds, blueberries) and was just finishing the last mouthful when I thought 'shit, that was milk'. I haven't drunk milk in over 15 years because lactose. I will refrain from liveblogging the results.

do you usually have a subsititute for milk on yr cereal or do you usually just not have cereal?
― mark s, Sunday, 31 July 2022 09:45 (one year ago) link
just been using water recently cos milk kept going off. My brother told me he had cut out milk a while back and some things had cleared up for him. He may have been just adopting a kitten which he would never have been able to do a few years ago because allergies which he then found out may be a milk allergy which i assume is lactose intolerance. Had some symptoms he described in telling me about giving that up that I've experienced so have been meaning to cut down on milk but did love cereal with it in . Will see.

After years of not having cereal (other than porridge w/ water), I've only recently tried Oatly on bran flakes and it's been a revelation. I make it for my kids all the time though, so yeah, hoping that explains away the madness.

nb, other than feeling a bit sick, I've not had too much of a reaction.
Milk freezes really well, we Canadians have the luxury of milk bags of course but theoretically you could freeze small amounts in ziplock bags or similar to have a constant unspoiled source
― she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Sunday, 31 July 2022 23:15 (one year ago) link
Somebody was saying that milk had been frozen without telling the customers which lead to milk going off faster when it was thawed presale. Which apparently contributed to its going off so frequently. I've tended to buy 2 litres then find a large part of it has gone off either because the fridge door had not been closed properly or despite it actually being closed. But did seem like a good opportunity to check out if going milk free did clear up things that had been bothering me. Sore throats etc
So freezing milk again is a bit too much effort.

my fridge (and local supermarket fridges according to a note on the door!) couldn't really cope with the recent high temperatures. i've switched to 2 pints at a time so it's not hanging around so much.

Last month we got off a train in Edinburgh with two children, two suitcases, two tote bags, a small rucksack and a buggy. Totally forgot about the large rucksack, with raincoats for Scottish Highland weather and my good camera and sunglasses, until an hour later. Luckily got it back the same day after two bus rides to the station and back, 20 mins each way. Today we(*) left a rucksack with my wife's wallet in on the luggage rack of a train in London. Just on the way to pick it up from the terminating station one hour away.(*) I, obviously.

And today I lost my wallet in a supermarket car park. Found it later well hidden in the car boot but not before cancelling all my cards - which meant we couldn't pay for anything as my wife had cancelled hers after rhe bag incident above (and her google pay was linked to my card!!) and we didn't have any cash, luckily her dad was there to buy ice creams and parking.Honestly I know looking after kids can max out your mental capacity at the best of times but I am getting worried about my brain.

as rain threatened i carefully closed the window that open in the sitting, entirely igoring the other window, literally right beside it, which was also wide open
enjoyed the downpour outside for a while sat on the other side of my flat, went back into the sitting room to discover plenty of it inside and half the floor awash

Last time we were in SF, I left the car open with a suitcase in it, which was stolen. This time I drove my family crazy by asking "did I lock the car?" every single time we walked away from it.

I have a hierarchy of kitchen towel now. The good, expensive stuff for when it's really needed, and 'blue roll' like what builders use that I buy in bulk for high-volume needs.

i: took a smug moment as i poured the water into my second air-press coffee of the morning, to self-congratulate for remembering to put the filter in (this time!) ii: realised as the cup filled with hot grounds that i had NOT in fact put the filter in iii: realised that i had confused "actually putting the filter in" with "carefully reminding myself to put the filter in"

B got the hardest lesson with that recently. The cat's rego was due, $30, literally chump change. He TOLD me he'd paid it (I usually pay all the bills, I dont know why I left that one up to him).
Next thing we know we have a $380 fine in the mail because he didnt pay it. grrr.

― Stoop Crone (Trayce), Wednesday, 7 September 2022 23:42 (one year ago) link
How do they know if the cat's not chipped? Does your city have cat catchers?
― pplains, Thursday, 8 September 2022 02:37 (one year ago) link
Our cats never leave the house, so they're off the grid.
If we'd neve registered him to start with? yeah theyd have no idea, and thats what I did with my last cat.
But if he ever ended up in the pound they'd likely just put him down so its a good idea.
