Heez, Saturday, 21 May 2022 20:55 (one year ago) link

ciderpress, Saturday, 21 May 2022 20:59 (one year ago) link

Sorry it was the 15/16 season he started hoisting

nice story

"Brother, I'm drunk. I cannot do interview right now."

Call it the Nikola Jokic MVP mission. Here's how the #Nuggets pulled off their covert trip to Serbia.https://t.co/WnS5bhUdPL

ESPN Sources: Denver Nuggets President Tim Connelly has agreed to a deal with the Minnesota Timberwolves that’ll make him one of the NBA’s highest compensated executives. Significant coup for Minnesota franchise.

lag∞n, Monday, 23 May 2022 19:24 (one year ago) link

Connelly will sign a 5-year, $40M-plus deal that includes ownership equity, sources said. Massive deal and franchise changing move for the Timberwolves.

Denver made a bid to keep Connelly that would've moved him into one of the better paid league executives, sources said, but the ownership equity with Minnesota is life-changing money -- something only a very few executives have in their deals.

— Adrian Wojnarowski (@wojespn) May 23, 2022

always a good sign when the guy is like “yeah i’ll leave behind this great team i built to come work for your organization only if you give me so much money that i simply cannot say no”

J0rdan S., Monday, 23 May 2022 19:44 (one year ago) link

juwan will prob eventually be an nba coach, but for now the decision is "coach your sons at your alma mater" or "be lebron's highly-paid assistant," and i think he chose wisely

I like how being paid millions in annual salary is just ho-hum these days and it takes getting an ownership share in a billion dollar enterprise to be "life-changing".

I'm pretty excited, this rules

Sounds like Gupta is staying on

min definitely in position to become a real team but yeah i'll believe it when i see it

when someone is willing to pay you $10 million+ to not work for the timberwolves, the timberwolves better be offering something that is truly changing your life in a whole different way

J0rdan S., Monday, 23 May 2022 21:48 (one year ago) link

Allows him to take that all-important step up from the 0.06% into the 0.04%.

more difficult than I look (Aimless), Monday, 23 May 2022 21:52 (one year ago) link

currently entertaining offers in the $6-8m range to not work for the timberwolves, please dm

Clay, Monday, 23 May 2022 22:21 (one year ago) link

I think it's funny that leaving a job for more money, which is why 99% of people leave their job is being viewed as suspect for some reason. Wolves aren't a destination so you have to overpay. POBO doesn't count against the cap so who cares how much these rich guys want to spend.

kinda surprising top front office jobs are mix level exception money tbh

lag∞n, Monday, 23 May 2022 23:51 (one year ago) link

yeah im disappointed too but you cant get everything you want look on the bright side you got legendary status in video games

DeAndre Ayton’s agent: “We’re disappointed. We wanted a max contract” https://t.co/GDVBqVf5QR

— Kurt Helin (@basketballtalk) May 24, 2022

lag∞n, Tuesday, 24 May 2022 02:22 (one year ago) link

the best way to get more money and prove youre worth the max is actually to play poorly and quit on your team in the playoffs then let someone write an article about how you only sleep a couple hours per night cos you cant shut off the video game.

Spottie, Tuesday, 24 May 2022 02:40 (one year ago) link

talking shit to your coach in an elimination game is good too

pistons maybe, if they miss out on the big men at the top of the draft

in places all over the world, real stuff be happening (voodoo chili), Tuesday, 24 May 2022 12:28 (one year ago) link

hornets one team that i think would actually be completely justified in giving ayton a huge contract. they badly need a real center and he’s athletic enough to play with their guys

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 24 May 2022 17:25 (one year ago) link

that team would need one helluva coach/culture to make it work cos hes not helping their defense unless he buys in

Spottie, Tuesday, 24 May 2022 17:32 (one year ago) link

i bet lamelo is a big gamer, the chemistry would be strong

https://bleacherreport.com/articles/10036706-early-nba-free-agency-buzz-intel-on-deandre-ayton-zach-lavine-and-more

The recent Williams dynamic may simply echo consistent word—dating back to the trade deadline—from league sources with knowledge of the situation that Ayton is not particularly a favorite of Phoenix's head coach. Williams has purportedly griped about Ayton's waning focus, which some people contacted by B/R said has often been reflected by the ebbs of his playing time.

There's a stronger sense among league figures that Phoenix brass simply does not view Ayton, or any center, as a player worth greater than $30 million annually.

Spottie, Tuesday, 24 May 2022 18:34 (one year ago) link

feel like there couldn’t be any more smoke coming from various sources as well as public statements/interactions to suggest that he’s gonna be on another team next year

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 24 May 2022 19:18 (one year ago) link

a sign and trade with the pistons to get jerami grant feels like it could be a coup for them

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 24 May 2022 19:18 (one year ago) link

The push to make a big hire in the front office may not seem like a novel idea on its face, but it is a guiding principle of Lore’s “Vision, Capital, People” mantra. Identify the top talent, and pay whatever it takes to make it happen.

would have to be a sign and trade either hayward or terry + oubre and a pick or picks idk what teams are willing to give up to max out ayton maybe they could get grant from detroit

lag∞n, Tuesday, 24 May 2022 20:33 (one year ago) link

between this and cp3 turning into a pumpkin on his 37th birthday suns have gone from champ contender to looking shaky fast

lag∞n, Tuesday, 24 May 2022 20:38 (one year ago) link

i know we made fun of sarver for not paying ayton last offseason but its looking like that was a good choice. instead we should direct all of that ire at him for picking ayton over luka in the first place.

“I’ve been told by multiple people who were with the Phoenix organization that picking Ayton was a total Robert Sarver move,” said MacMahon. “It sure wasn’t Igor. He wanted them obviously to get Luka, and to put a big offer on the table for Clint Capela.”

MacMahon’s co-host, Brian Windhorst, added that Ayton attended college at the University of Arizona, where Sarver is “a proud alum.”

Spottie, Tuesday, 24 May 2022 20:41 (one year ago) link

it was always obvious that Ayton's U. of Arizona connection was a big contributing factor to his #1 pick by PHX. also, that it was a mistake.

I think most of it was a belief that Doncic and Booker wouldn’t fit and I think that’s actually true to some degree but also you need to get Doncic and sort that out later.

Matt Armstrong, Wednesday, 25 May 2022 13:17 (one year ago) link

yeah its been proven over and over that you shouldnt draft for fit with top picks, tho imo those guys wouldve fit fine or even great

lag∞n, Wednesday, 25 May 2022 13:18 (one year ago) link

Yeah it turned out that Booker isn’t as ball dominant as it seemed he would be

Matt Armstrong, Wednesday, 25 May 2022 13:34 (one year ago) link

i don't want to make a bigger deal out of it than it is, but that video game article really shifted my perspective. honestly the idea that he's getting like 4-5 hours of sleep a night, let alone 2, could account for a lot of the lack of focus in his game. if he could kick that shit and start living healthy who knows what he'd be. otoh there isn't much indication he's interested on doing that so maybe a moot point.

can't remember where i was reading/listening to it, but in the midst of harden looking cooked in these playoffs, someone was contrasting his off-court lifestyle with cp3 as a significant contributor to their ability to maintain their level of play as older players, and it really resonated. i don't always think about that how much of a difference that stuff makes

Lavator Shemmelpennick, Wednesday, 25 May 2022 14:02 (one year ago) link

it's infinitely sadder that its the nba games and not like a MMO or whatever
