It was, how you say, just enough.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 6 May 2022 00:49 (two years ago) link

xp fair, but keep that away from my show

also, they divorced it completely from the plot so lol

mh, Friday, 6 May 2022 03:01 (two years ago) link

I will finish it but yeah that episode inside Picard's head urrrrgh

Now I'll admit I've only seen stray TNG but not only does an emotionally repressed Men Would Rather Explore Space Than Go To Therapy Picard feel out of character, surely medical advances would have been sufficient by the time of Picard's childhood that his mum wouldn't have to be kept in some gothic basement because of her depression like it's the 19th century? The show's insistence on portraying Picard's childhood as being the early 20th century drives me up the wall.

I'm sorry, but I FEEL VINDICATED I have been banging on about Wesley showing up because he's a traveller in both this and Disco for AGES. I yelped when he showed up.

I found this episode very satisfying!

has there ever been a series where people talked so much

mark s, Friday, 6 May 2022 18:23 (two years ago) link

Do you not believe in love and hope

Ned Raggett, Friday, 6 May 2022 18:49 (two years ago) link

Or something

Ned Raggett, Friday, 6 May 2022 18:49 (two years ago) link

The most hilare bit was how cartoonishly bad Soong was being, with his "must I remind you I am exceedingly rich so shut up and do it" routine at the end there.

Stoop Crone (Trayce), Saturday, 7 May 2022 00:30 (one year ago) link

Let us look back in time!

And Wesley would come back from Travellerland, or wherever he ended up? That would be cool.

― trishyb, Monday, March 14, 2022 6:23 PM (one month ago)

recently learned that you used to be a poster i really liked a lot but goddamnit if you summon wesley i will fp you straight to hell

I did too, poo to y'all!

Stoop Crone (Trayce), Saturday, 7 May 2022 04:31 (one year ago) link

rude

anyway i guess he was too busy gallivanting around space/time to prevent talinn, who should have instead just beat the shit out of soong, from haplessly dying. forever lame

mookieproof, Saturday, 7 May 2022 05:00 (one year ago) link

mean while elnor lives :D to surf down an elephant’s trunk one day :D
ughhhhhhhh whyyyy god whyyyy

terminators of endearment (VegemiteGrrl), Saturday, 7 May 2022 05:17 (one year ago) link

The entire concept of the borg and fighting them sometimes feels like such a boondoggle given the Q's could just zap them out of existence. I guess this also explains why Q never shows up in Disco - hes dead by then (who knows wether they knew that a few years back though?)

Stoop Crone (Trayce), Saturday, 7 May 2022 09:09 (one year ago) link

Oh one fleeting thing I am not sure I heard properly - when Q says to JL "even gods have favourites and you happen to be mine", for a moment I swear it looked like Picard was starting to say "wait, youre a go..."

Did I imagine that?

Stoop Crone (Trayce), Saturday, 7 May 2022 09:11 (one year ago) link

was anything picard actually did say fleeting? my answer here is no

mark s, Saturday, 7 May 2022 10:29 (one year ago) link

Everyone on this thread OTM. Finale kind of rallied despite the mid-season slide into silly mediocrity. The desire to not die alone was actually kind of nice and would've been better had that scene not dragged on so long.

For a moment I wondered if the spatial anomaly was Q's corpse finally dissolving after centuries and releasing massive amounts of energy, and that THAT was his surprise gift, not Elnor.

Also also since Picard is housed inside a Soong-bot, I'm assuming he's fully functional.

I guess this also explains why Q never shows up in Disco - hes dead by then (who knows wether they knew that a few years back though?)

There are still other Q, presumably!

Oh one fleeting thing I am not sure I heard properly - when Q says to JL "even gods have favourites and you happen to be mine", for a moment I swear it looked like Picard was starting to say "wait, youre a go..."

Did I imagine that?

I rewatched this scene, and JL only sez, "Q..." before Q cuts him off. Given that the Q/god thing was touched on in "Tapestry," I think it was more poetic license than anything else (though given that he and the Continuum are basically omnipotent, potato/tomato).

It must be true

Buddy of mine sent me the season 3 finale script of Picard, and I don't want to give anything away, but (and maybe this is a spoiler) William Shatner makes a triumphant return to kill him.

New trailer today but this news sucks:

https://gizmodo.com/dead-space-2023-remake-motive-ea-1850044901

Most of the comments so far are about her Borg Queen role, and she was pretty good as that.

Ned Raggett, Sunday, 29 January 2023 21:20 (one year ago) link

Ah, thanks -- small glitch there!

Ned Raggett, Sunday, 29 January 2023 23:43 (one year ago) link

Ned Raggett, Monday, 30 January 2023 02:06 (one year ago) link

Xp it's kind of a heart stopper since the first two people I googled were Alice Krige and Susanna Thompson.

As for the trailer... I have a mental checklist of ~4 plot devices that I think Trek needs to embargo for a good long while and maybe it's a good sign that the trailer only seems to use one of them.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 7 February 2023 22:05 (one year ago) link

I thought we were all hate-watching it!

Shartreuse (Leee), Tuesday, 7 February 2023 22:32 (one year ago) link

You'd be surprised!

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 7 February 2023 22:51 (one year ago) link

I like Picard! The only bit that annoyed me was that one ep with whatserface in his mind and the whole mad/dead mum story, that was a bit meh.

Stoop Crone (Trayce), Tuesday, 7 February 2023 23:41 (one year ago) link

I hope we get at least three more Soongs

I’ll accept Lore as one of them

mh, Wednesday, 8 February 2023 01:59 (one year ago) link

I stand corrected!

I'm on the other side of the fence -- no more secret Soongs please.

i heard there was a secret lore
that spiner played and then leee abhorred
cause you don't really care for more soongs, do you

Piven After Midnight (The Yellow Kid), Saturday, 11 February 2023 05:49 (one year ago) link

Lots of promising talk around the new season from those that have seen several episodes.

Cautiously optimistic but I'm taking "on course to be the greatest season of Star Trek ever" with a pinch of salt

groovypanda, Saturday, 11 February 2023 20:05 (one year ago) link

So we're back! Liked it well enough as a good setup episode, couple of things I'm still scratching my chin over. Was bemused that the opening credits were now the closing credits and now in a totally different style, I was kinda liking how the last two seasons' credits went. But as a tribute to the original show, a treat, and clearly all kinds of easter eggs stuffed in there.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 17 February 2023 02:27 (one year ago) link

mr veg said the opening title was like wrath of khan, same font etc which was interesting

plus lots of stuff packed in that opening scene

all v interesting hope it goes somewhere good
