my symptoms started last monday—thought they were just really bad allergies, but i tested and got a negative result (one of the many delightful features of the covid merry-go-round). my girlfriend, whose worst symptoms were sniffles, tested herself out of curiosity on wednesday, and was positive; i tested again, and so was i (i feel like i would've tested positive on tuesday as well)

so nearly a full week

Heh, something very similar happened in my household except my daughter tested positive but I never did. So bad allergies plus “regular” cold superinfection for me, I think.

Welp, I finally caught it. Had a little earache on the flight home from Seattle which turned into tinnitus by bedtime. Didn’t think that was a symptom, didn’t even cross my mind - thought it was just an elevation thing. Woke up yesterday AM with chills and snot, and I was like, “uh-oh.” RAT was instantly positive.

The timing was good - it would have been a difficult and expensive proposition to stay if I had become symptomatic while I was there - but I wish I’d tested on my return so I didn’t sleep with Mrs HD that night. I think I caught it at home on the weekend and it gestated.

Symptoms are intermittently awful. On the up side I’m salaried and with some WFH options, so that’s ok. Once the brain fog and achybones lift. Blech.

Sorry. And sorry you got the rona as well.

Johnny Thunderwords (James Redd and the Blecchs), Friday, 6 May 2022 20:39 (one year ago) link

After a good 36-hour sleep punctuated by intermittent brief waking moments, I’m doing a lot better today! Was able to put my isolation to good use & play-test a bunch of singles I’d been sitting on for a while. I don’t feel good, by any stretch, but I no longer feel as though every minute is a year.

war mice (hardcore dilettante), Sunday, 8 May 2022 01:57 (one year ago) link

I finally got it a week or so ago (vaxxed and 1 boost in Dec). Like a mild cold - two days of sore throat, muscle aches, and runny nose (runny nose for 3), but less bad for each compared to my typical cold. Feel fine now and will test again Monday to see if I should return to work.

nickn, Sunday, 8 May 2022 07:27 (one year ago) link

symptoms started appearing on Tuesday night: sore throat, small cough, tested negative

tested again on Friday, tested positive

Sunday now and I'm mostly symptom-free except for a small on-off fever, throat still a BIT itchy and phlegmy, and most annoyingly, a reduced sense of smell and taste

for those of you who had similar symptoms/timeline to mine, how long did it take you to regain your smell/taste? I know everyone's different and it's a bit soon to get impatient but still, just curious

Anyone else experiencing fatigue and aching legs after covid? I had it around 21 April, with sore throat, hoarse voice and feeling drained. Most symptoms are now gone - but the fatigue is persisting.

Luna Schlosser, Sunday, 8 May 2022 21:07 (one year ago) link

Idk if what I had a couple months ago was covid or not, but I definitely had a period of intense fatigue after being sick with something. It seems to be getting better, but I still feel more easily wiped out by exertion than normal. Not aching legs exactly, but I often feel my tiredness in my legs, as if I've been hiking.

My cousin was also sick with something recently, tested negative for covid, but has been dealing with severe fatigue since then. And she normally has a ton of energy, bikes everywhere in winter, works out a lot, so the contrast is pretty striking. She also seems to be getting better but slowly.

how you feeling frogbs?

did your wife ever end up testing positive after panera bread btw?

Tracer Hand, Tuesday, 10 May 2022 13:20 (one year ago) link

tbh I have no idea how I dodged Omicron, I guess this was just a matter of time

what really sucks is that I was supposed to go to Boston tomorrow to see my brother, it was gonna be my first actual vacation since this whole thing started. great timing huh?

so far just feels like a mild flu. not bad, just kinda annoying

did your wife ever end up testing positive after panera bread btw?

I think that was in February 2020, they did have Covid tests quite yet. I'm surprised someone remembers :)

Well, my husband and I got it. Minor tickle in the throat, post-nasal drip, a little tired. Fingers crossed it doesn’t get any worse.

We know exactly where we got it, too— two dear friends came for dinner on Saturday (they felt fine but tested neg before coming) and then Sunday night one of them didn’t feel great— Monday morning, positive test. Alas.

the thing finally caught me last week! had a nasty sore throat for a couple days, which gave way to fatigue, headaches, and congestion. the night i tested positive was the only night i had a real fever, with chills. i tested positive last week and i'm still feeling a bit foggy, with fatigue and a feverish feeling, even if the fever isn't showing up on the thermometer. i was hoping to travel to my in-laws this weekend, but the at home i took today came back positive, which means i might still be contagious.

overall, would not recommend getting this thing lol, but i'm doing fine.

woke up with a sore throat and upset stomach, busted out a self-test and... positive. after taking dozens of them over the past year it's surreal to see a positive result! hope everyone is feeling better soon.

I haven't had it yet (that I know of) but I waved at a Q-anon, Trump fan, vaccine refuser neighbor outside the other day and she said, "Don't get too close, we're still getting over a cold. We were fine and then suddenly one day we both got really sick with fevers and cold symptoms. Then we seemed to get better but it keeps coming in waves. Anyway, have a nice day!"

...

It's so weird, obviously it's not COVID cos that's fake, we can't put our finger on what it is. Maybe 5G?

I’m still a snot bucket, but the cough is subsiding and today was the first day I didn’t have to take a second Tylenol Cold midday to keep it at bay, so it seems to be abating some. I’m still foggy in the brain, which concerns me a bit.

day four of a punishing fever, sore throat is persistent but not terrible... hope it's done with soon.

Jaime Pressly and America (f. hazel), Monday, 23 May 2022 19:03 (one year ago) link

our 2 year old got it. both kids banned from daycare for 5-10 days. (the other one can come back after 5 if he doesn't get it and we can isolate a 2 year old from a 4 year old hahahaha.)

big shout out to the FDA for delaying the meeting to review the moderna under 5s vaccine to "avoid confusion".

how's it going, caek?

Tracer Hand, Wednesday, 1 June 2022 19:02 (one year ago) link

thanks! 2/4 of us have it now (me and the youngest). youngest is generally doing pretty well. he wakes up with a fever, we give him tylenol during the day, and he's mostly fine.

i feel like i felt when i got vaccinated, i.e. generally achey, plus a mild cough. no stuffy nose, sense of taste fine. i'm getting paxlovid via being a big lad. (filled out a form at https://www.findcovidcare.com/ and paid $49, didn't even need a telehealth call)

hoping the other two get it tbh so we can visit the uk without risking getting stuck (https://www.nytimes.com/2022/05/19/travel/testing-requirement-flying-us-cdc.html). 2/4 of us getting it is no good to me.

𝔠𝔞𝔢𝔨 (caek), Wednesday, 1 June 2022 19:54 (one year ago) link

glad to hear you got Paxlovid, and thanks for that site. i think we have Test to Treat here but if those run out of supply, that might be our next option for my folks if they ever get it.

test to treat is here too, but i can't really take or leave the kids. telehealth is my best friend.

It's a good alternative option that I wasn't aware of (I mean the overnighting of the meds post sharing of test result!)

How's it going, f. haze?

Ima Gardener (in orbit), Friday, 3 June 2022 00:31 (one year ago) link

I live! Tested negative for the first time this morning, day 13. Fever broke on the fifth day, then I lost my sense of taste/smell for about a week but it's mostly back now. There were a scary couple of days where I constantly smelled something akin to rancid peanut butter, which thankfully went away. Still have a little bit of congestion and I get tired if I try to do too much.

Hope y'all see the end of yours soon, caek!

Jaime Pressly and America (f. hazel), Friday, 3 June 2022 01:17 (one year ago) link

oof that was a long 17 days. We all got it. We’re all clear now. the last one goes back to daycare on Monday.

Glad to know. What were the worst symptoms?

Malevolent Arugula (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Saturday, 11 June 2022 15:24 (one year ago) link

I’m on day six of what is a very mild Omicron. My symptoms were slight chest tightness the first few days and a really stuffy head where I felt like my nose needed blowing every 10 minutes, but with very little actual snot. Now I can breathe but the tissues are full, and I felt things start to lift yesterday. No fever, no losses of smell or taste, only slight sore throat.

With the benefit of hindsight, pregnancy.
