Let It Come Down is still my favorite Spiritualized album, and I feel like this new album and the last one tap into the soulful, hungover widescreen orchestral vibe of that one better than anything he's done since

that seems promising, I like Let It Come Down, but it definitely isn't my favorite. I really disliked when he went for more of a raw rock sound, it just didn't work for me, so maybe this is a step in the right direction.

This one also has a bit of a lo-fi LAGWAFIS feel about it too. You should definitely check it out

glad to see his knack for vague meaningless keep-it-positive titles hasn't waned

Yep, excellent as usual. Mr. Spaceman is the most reliable purveyor of aural comfort food I know of

My thought listening to this album last night was, man this guy is consistent. I like the new one, he is good at doing what he does.

The first track is so choice, I keep playing it

Love the little country elements here and there.

The first track is great, as mentioned above. The last one is joyous too.

Mark Refoy with a story he posted just now on FB:

Spiritualized fun fact
It’s time for a lazer guided fun fact folks. Back in 1991 Spiritualized were in the process of recording their debut album in various different studios. A studio we spent a lot of time in was Bath Moles. During the recording of 200 Bars it was decided that some accordion was needed. A call was made and an accordion player turned up to add the necessary vibe.
Or so we thought.
She was a very polite and well spoken lady, not the folkie type we’d been expecting. We played the song and when it came to the part when Kate intoned “One Hundred” Jason said…“we want you to play over the chords B and F# like this - da dada da da da da dada, da dada da da dada dada - yeah? Okay?” There was a moment of silence and she replied…”well I can’t possibly do that.” We were a bit taken aback - ”er, why not? You can play the accordion can’t you?” Somewhat smarted she replied…“yes I can play the accordion but that’s syncopation, it can’t be done on an accordion.” I picked up a guitar and played what we wanted her to play. She said…“that’s all very well and good but an accordion can’t do that.”
We begged to differ so a plan was formulated - while she squeezed the accordion, myself and Jason pushed the buttons and played the keys. After a fashion, job done.
So the lesson learnt was, three people using all their hands can play a two chord syncopated rhythm on one accordion.

Fat Possum vinyl is inconsistent, but the new cover is a huge improvement.
