Will that guy on Jeopardy ever lose?

Really, really hate that she extemporizes after, seemingly, every answer or category pick. It eats time from the round and it's dirty Jeopardy playing. Sure hope someone reels that in prior to tournament of champions. Neither Ken or Mayim have done a good job with reeling her in on this bad play habit (Shoot, Mayim is just as guilty of this as host).

They need to do the tournament of champions as a live competition.

I think it could become a bigger deal if they did.

I don't get the sense at all that she's doing it intentionally, or to "play dirty." And is it really eating time from the rounds? How many clues were left on the board during her run?

I love that she does it. She's playing like she's watching at home, and it seems to sharpen her focus.

Yep - I respectfully disagree. Maybe she doesn't do it intentionally, but the fact remains that the show runs a tight play-time schedule. Mattea obviously has a wide breadth of knowledge and, more importantly, is fast on the buzzer. For every 'oh my golly gosh' reaction she shows before or after giving an answer/picking a category, that further throws off other player's timing on figuring out how to be faster at ringing in their buzzers, and it cuts into overall round time (thus my 'dirty' play inference). Matt Amodio was fast on the buzzer, but was extra sharp/clipped with his microphone time (using 'What' for everything was genius). Even talky/charismatic players like James or Austin kept their mic time short other than for answers or category picks.

I dunno, I don't see Mattea taking any more time -- much less, actually -- than the players who spend 20 minutes going, "Hmmm...let's see...maybe...maybe I will try...the...the category...of...Potent...no, wait...ah, yes, here we are! I will...attempt to...answer a...question in the...category of...base...ball."

And if she was really taking time away, there'd be a bunch of clues left after each round. During her run so far, I don't think there's been more than a total of two or three clues left.

i dont enjoy it as a viewer just bc i find it annoying after 8 games, but i also feel like i'd likely be the same if i ever made it on the show. i like her as player. its surely no coincidence that she's relaxed enough to be playing like shes watching at home & also doing so well.

Criminy, it's a game show not a thesis defense.

Won the last three on final Jeopardy, to be fair Amodio nor Amy had that much challenge in their runs let alone back to back to back. Of course those two pretty much went like the Terminator through the board many nights.

I was thinking it was so wild that she was this big a champ at 23, they could literally maybe bring her back in like 40 years (in 2065 if mankind is still alive) and have her on whatever mental transmission media Jeopardy is on.

what’s the running commentary? like when she says “uh let’s get away from that category”? i feel like lots of ppl do that although she does do it more than average

the only time i really tune in is when someone is on a streak. she is very entertaining and funny, top tier all time player.

Yeah, I'm definitely more excited about watching when there's a streak going. And I've already said that I like Mattea's running commentary, but I'm saying it again because I'd much rather watch someone who's obviously having a lot of fun than some of the I AM JEOPARDY-BOT contestants.

ha - I AM JEOPARDY BOTs are my fav contestants. nothing gets me excited like watching some dead-eyed terminator coldly vaporize the board.

Holzauer and Mattea were both great to watch because they are good players who clearly love the game

(but I probably would have gotten burnt out on James if he didn't break dead-eyed kayfabe at the end of an episode, or get zings in on Trebek)
