fantastic track

incredible production by Dennis Bovell, from the same time he produced Linton Kwesi Johnson’s Forces of Victory album, which apart from everything else has the lushest percussion-drenched sound ever

oh the serendubbity! just found out a 38-track compilation of Dennis Bovell productions was released just two weeks ago! it’s called The DuBMASTER: The Essential Anthology - it appears to focus on his own dub recordings, but there’s tracks he produced for others as well (“Silly Games” and its dub version are there, and so is that Marie Pierre track, albeit in an inferior remix version)

also to the OP: the answer is Linton Kwesi Johnson’s Forces of Victory album, which apart from everything else has the lushest percussion-drenched sound ever

Thank you all the same, that lead me to the Bovell thread, which lead me to an extremely solid jam.

I also gave him a shoutout in the Last.fm thread, but this DJ Muro mix is some hot schitt. All covers and some really good ones, at that:

not a 7" but one i keep listening to. Super haunting and more so once you know the backstory. Sir Collins' son was killed (murdered) in the New Cross Fire in 1981 and he made a tribue album which this is from (also recently came out on a 12").

She certainly has better taste than I did at age 12.

When my sister brings my one year old niece round I always stick on some dub music because she finds it calming (my niece, not my sister). I'm giving her a head start in life!

Sycamore Tree is all time!

She certainly has better taste than I did at age 12.

And than I did too, although I did like Jamamican music when I was that age as there was so much of it in the top 40. Janet Kay's "Silly Games" was the one that opened the gates for me.

i do think children often seem to be drawn to it.

I’ve been revisiting this early 90s dancehall favourite of mine, I have mused over the years whether Steely‘a piano on this is supposed to touch an Italo House kind of feeling. Chaka Demus is good, I think, but a bit one paced and so best in small doses. Spanner Banner is Pliers’s brother.
