bonita does the same kinda thing much better

the one in w'burg u mean? or is there another one

dmr, Tuesday, 7 October 2008 17:47 (fifteen years ago) link

they should spend less time being stoned or whatever they are doing and more time opening a restaurant that i would like to eat at. yeah!

maybe i will just open my own pies 'n' thighs to spite them.

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Tuesday, 7 October 2008 17:48 (fifteen years ago) link

theres a bonita in ft green - dekalb @ vanderbilt

xp

joe six pak (ice crӕm), Tuesday, 7 October 2008 17:48 (fifteen years ago) link

oh cool. I shld go there

dmr, Tuesday, 7 October 2008 17:49 (fifteen years ago) link

eater said they'd applied for an expedited permit hearing in december, but i guess that in practical terms it would mean a 2009 opening. sigh.

lauren, Tuesday, 7 October 2008 17:49 (fifteen years ago) link

well, ppl can come over to my house for biscuits (made with real lard flakes) in the meantime.

lauren, Tuesday, 7 October 2008 17:50 (fifteen years ago) link

yea i haven't been to bonita yet. seems cute on the outside

still go to ICI a lot, which is right across the street. and Lulu is pretty good, also right there -- can be hit or miss.

Surmounter, Tuesday, 7 October 2008 17:50 (fifteen years ago) link

i am leaning towards this idea of opening my own pies 'n' thighs even more >:[

xpost i'll bring pulled pork and greens

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Tuesday, 7 October 2008 17:51 (fifteen years ago) link

yah i dont know if pies n thighs is stoned or what but judging from the couple conversations ive had w/one of the owners they def were just all YAY LETS OPEN A FUN RESTAURANT which totally awesome attitude imo but they no doubt had a steep learning curve once the city started fucking w/them and they had to move etc

joe six pak (ice crӕm), Tuesday, 7 October 2008 17:52 (fifteen years ago) link

it's a deal. we can serve up bootleg nu-americana.

xpost

lauren, Tuesday, 7 October 2008 17:53 (fifteen years ago) link

i will bring ribbbbs

joe six pak (ice crӕm), Tuesday, 7 October 2008 17:54 (fifteen years ago) link

xpost yeah that is problem with it, opening up a restaurant is actually not fun at all, and tho i admire their attitudes it just seems like more than they bargained for unfortunately.

ps gabbneb is not invited to our bootleg nu-americana festival.

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Tuesday, 7 October 2008 17:54 (fifteen years ago) link

gebbneb can come but he has to agree w/everything we say and we will purposely say many wrong things

joe six pak (ice crӕm), Tuesday, 7 October 2008 17:55 (fifteen years ago) link

it would be kind of fun to do a p&t memorial potluck.

lauren, Tuesday, 7 October 2008 17:56 (fifteen years ago) link

i'll bring mac n cheese and green beanz

ian, Tuesday, 7 October 2008 17:57 (fifteen years ago) link

yeah this is a totally fun idea! i would be into it! i honestly do make good pulled pork, and good beef brisket!

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Tuesday, 7 October 2008 17:58 (fifteen years ago) link

and i can honestly make ribs - tho theyd be braised not bbqd :/

joe six pak (ice crӕm), Tuesday, 7 October 2008 18:00 (fifteen years ago) link

so let's make it happen. ideally before 2009.

just made plans for early-bird dinner on sat. at no. 7, btw. very excited about this!

lauren, Tuesday, 7 October 2008 18:02 (fifteen years ago) link

i want to host!

Surmounter, Tuesday, 7 October 2008 18:02 (fifteen years ago) link

this is an awesome idea

max, Tuesday, 7 October 2008 18:09 (fifteen years ago) link

let's call it max's

max, Tuesday, 7 October 2008 18:10 (fifteen years ago) link

did you check out the menu at the tavern room at gt, max? i really do think that could be a good option. even if there is a wait, it's a lot more civilized than the bar crush at some places.

^^ haha i thought i had responded to u yesterday w/ questions and then u didnt respond back and i thot i had asked a dumb question or something but i guess i didnt even check--really i just wanted to know if the tavern room is prix-fixe or not--the restaurant is, rite?

max, Tuesday, 7 October 2008 18:10 (fifteen years ago) link

tavern rm is not prix-fixe

gabbneb, Tuesday, 7 October 2008 18:12 (fifteen years ago) link

i guess that is sort of a dum question cause i could just check the website which i did and yes the tavern is an open menu and the restaurant is prix fixe or whatever

max, Tuesday, 7 October 2008 18:13 (fifteen years ago) link

oh, if you asked me then i didn't notice! sorry. it's not prix fixe. the dining room is. tavern room is first come, first seated with a nice menu that goes up to the mid-20s for entrees. the current menu is on their site.

lauren, Tuesday, 7 October 2008 18:15 (fifteen years ago) link

(stuffed meatball is outrageous.)

lauren, Tuesday, 7 October 2008 18:15 (fifteen years ago) link

is michael anthony's gt appreciably better than it was when i had lunch in the prior era and it was totally forgettable? it is, cos he is a blue hill guy, rite?

gabbneb, Tuesday, 7 October 2008 18:16 (fifteen years ago) link

it's not like i've been there a lot, but i've had meals before and since the changeover, and the food is so much better.

lauren, Tuesday, 7 October 2008 18:18 (fifteen years ago) link

i wouldn't have recommended it under the old regime.

lauren, Tuesday, 7 October 2008 18:19 (fifteen years ago) link

lol i didnt ask u before--sorry i thought i had--checkin out the menu now it does look nice...

max, Tuesday, 7 October 2008 18:19 (fifteen years ago) link

thanks, good to hear

gabbneb, Tuesday, 7 October 2008 18:20 (fifteen years ago) link

if you want a more hip atmosphere, though, then it might not be the place. it's not stuffy, but it is... i guess classic would be a good word. all things considered, i think if you liked blue hill then you'd like gt.

lauren, Tuesday, 7 October 2008 18:22 (fifteen years ago) link

who's been to Aunt Suzie's in the slope? forget if i've asked before. it seems so nice and homey.

Surmounter, Tuesday, 7 October 2008 18:24 (fifteen years ago) link

yeah im not lookin for hip, i was worried abt it being prix-fixe and maybe a little too fancy... spotted pig seemed ok but i really dont want to wait for an hr and if the foods not as good... f it

max, Tuesday, 7 October 2008 18:33 (fifteen years ago) link

the room isn't fancy, but the people might be

gabbneb, Tuesday, 7 October 2008 18:36 (fifteen years ago) link

's ok dude i got fancy thoughts

lauren, Tuesday, 7 October 2008 19:33 (fifteen years ago) link

will u pay for my dinner?

max, Tuesday, 7 October 2008 20:46 (fifteen years ago) link

j/k i feel hell of confident that i will like it; i am easily pleased

max, Tuesday, 7 October 2008 20:48 (fifteen years ago) link

hope you and gf have an awesome time, and that there isn't a lengthy wait.

lauren, Tuesday, 7 October 2008 20:51 (fifteen years ago) link

man opentable dot com is pretty dope but it makes me too tempted to eat at awesome restaurants every night and never have any money

gabbneb, Tuesday, 7 October 2008 20:55 (fifteen years ago) link

Clinton Street Baking Company has a special: $10 for a burger and a beer every night from 6-8. You pay extra for fries but the burger comes with home made potato chips so you really won't need the fries. It's a really good burger--better than Dumont I think.

saudade, Thursday, 9 October 2008 03:34 (fifteen years ago) link

Aunt Suzie's? I don't think anyone really thinks their food is good. They have longevity, but little else. Better alternatives would be Franny's, Peperoncino, Anthony's, or Bar Tonno. Of course, Al di la is the gold standard for Italian in Park Slope, though it's not typical red-sauce Italian.

Josefa, Thursday, 9 October 2008 03:47 (fifteen years ago) link

Franny's was v v good.
