just thinking about all of this. it sounds corny to say, but canada qualifying was the best thing that could happen to this country. you can tell the vibe is changing. the team has achieved its main goal. even if we get eliminated in the group stage, this is already a big win for soccer in canada. anything else is just gravy

When I was up in Scotland I saw (ex-Ranger) Chris Burke talking about the World Cup and saying maybe Scotland should just do the decent thing and withdraw and allow Ukraine to go through, which brought the instantaneous response of "Get tae fuck!" in households the length and breadth of the country.

In retrospect, Japan/S.Korea had both hosted World Cup too recently and, frankly, it was never going to go to Australia which left the USA and Qatar. The USA are getting the next tournament.
