i really like how the hyundai ioniq 5 looks, has some future 80s tron styling without being retro feels like it could a way forward, except for the stupid wheels which i hate, i know its a areo thing but they cant be doing that much, carmakers make normal ev wheels and door handles challenge

We have 2012 and 2020 hondas that we will probably drive into the ground, but I am sort of excited to eventually get an EV if/when it's finally time to replace the 2012 (it has <90k miles on it so should be good for a while).

Turns out my Mach-E arrived at the dealer yesterday. The salesperson I had started the order with had left the dealership since my last conversation in February. My order then got poached by someone else there before her replacement took over. I find out more when I get there tomorrow. Super-excited!

https://dailyhive.com/vancouver/bc-electric-vehicle-statistics-sales-uptake
BC previously set 2025 as its target for meeting 10% zero-emission vehicle sales, but it is now five years ahead of schedule. In 2015, the proportion of electric-battery car sales was just 0.8%, and it grew to only 1% in 2016 and 1.5% in 2017. But the rate of growth began to accelerate in 2018, when 4.1% was recorded. This was followed by 8.7% in 2019, and 9.4% in 2020.

vancouver being a mid-size, compact city and having smaller streets makes it ideal for EVs (to a lesser extent, electric scooters and electric motorcycles maybe). there's been a lot of supply shortages, but once supply chains get back to some sense of normality, i assume the EV market is going to blow up here

Couple of notes on Mach-E ordering...
Check out the "No ADM (Additional Dealer Markup) Dealer List" thread on Mach-E Forum. Don't even consider going to a dealer that's not on the list as you're just going to waste your time and money.
If you're in the USA, once you reserve an order online spend the $30 to join the Mustang Club of America. After 90 days of membership you'll qualify for X-Plan pricing from Ford. Depending upon what state you live in, X-Plan can get you up to $2500 off of MSRP along with some additional discounts. Here in CA, I got the max MSPR reduction along with all my DMV fees waived - a big savings!

love a good deal, love it more when i learn about it from the forums
― class project pat (m bison), Monday, 4 April 2022 00:41 (two years ago) link
Also, check to see if the Ford Options lease program is available in your state. Even if you were planning on just paying for the car outright, the program gets you a $2500 reduction on the total price. Even if you pay it off in the following month it is still advantageous.

I think EVs were already supposed to hold their value better bc of fewer wear and tear issues, but yeah that's still wild
― longtime caller, first time listener (man alive), Sunday, 17 April 2022 05:08 (two years ago) link
that’s true about the motor, but EV batteries project to hold their capacity for about 8 years iirc so buying a 3-yo EV with 20K miles on it feels like… you’re getting a lot less for your money? idgi
― Tracer Hand, Sunday, 17 April 2022 07:57 (two years ago) link
Most EVs come with an 8 year performance warranty on their batteries. Warranties are conservative because manufacturers don’t want to pay out. Range will be down but you won’t have a dead car.
Manufacturers are stuffing unnecessary extra range in, to keep prices up, so in 8 years you’ll still have more than you need.
― American Fear of Scampos (Ed), Sunday, 17 April 2022 09:40 (two years ago) link
that’s good to know.
― Tracer Hand, Sunday, 17 April 2022 10:51 (two years ago) link
think i read youll lose 2-3% capacity a year, so eight years ~20% its not nothing but its not like the car wont work
― lag∞n, Sunday, 17 April 2022 12:01 (two years ago) link
when i was researching last year abt this, this has been a trend for a lot of ppl who buy the prius primes already bc they get so many rebates/tax credits in some states that they could buy a new prius for under $20k, then would turn around and flip for a new year's model the next year with profit. i've had my car for a year and i could likely sell mine in this market for $7-8k more than what i paid for it.
