Found it in 37, average guesses across all games:120.00.

Wonder how fizzles will get on with this one... I was caught up in specifics for a while (city, suburbs, downtown) before zooming out.

Four guesses is wild!

lemmy incaution (emsworth), Wednesday, 16 March 2022 10:18 (two years ago) link

I know, blind luck. Though I do tend to use the answer as one of my early guesses on most days, so it just happened to be the winner today.

I solved Semantle #46 in 54 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of -0.59. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #12. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 33.91 (859/1000). https://semantle.novalis.org/

Pretty straight forward and probably lots of ways to get there.

two 4's ! wow, took me 3x as long lol

I solved Semantle #46 in 34 guesses.
My first guess had a similarity of 32.27 (797/1000) with “rural”. Once again, Fizzles’ rural-urban opening gambit served me well, although that super score for “rural” had me thinking I was basically there already. Good thing I reminded myself to check out “urban” as well, just to make sure.

I solved Semantle #46 in 25 guesses.

These last two have been far too fast. 25 at least feels like it involved some work on my part, though, so I can be proud of it. 7 was completely random.

The very weird close words 476-474 have given me the title of my new sexy mystery novel: Spadefoot in Cockloft

Lily Dale, Thursday, 17 March 2022 00:32 (two years ago) link

Got it in 44. Had 986/1000 on my 4th guess, but it took another 40 to get there.

Zelda Zonk, Thursday, 17 March 2022 00:50 (two years ago) link

currently at guess 156 with #978, #987, #988, #996 and #997 -- i am very not good at this game

sarahell, Thursday, 17 March 2022 03:35 (two years ago) link

lol - 188 guesses and finally got #47 - it makes sense now that philosophy and rational were high in addition to the numerous synonyms

I solved Semantle #47 in 120 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of 5.67. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #97. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 48.97 (996/1000).

Not excelling at this game lately!

lemmy incaution (emsworth), Thursday, 17 March 2022 06:49 (two years ago) link

I solved Semantle #47 in 48 guesses.
My first guess had a similarity of 4.55.
My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #16, straight in at 986 with “strategy”, and “goal” at #37 got me to 996. In conclusion, I could have gotten there a wee bit quicker than I did. But nice to have such a straightforward one.

another hard slog, I think I'm getting worse at this

joni mitchell jarre (anagram), Thursday, 17 March 2022 08:20 (two years ago) link

some just seem to be harder than others. after a high green at guess 10 i'm now over 200 and just plugging in words randomly.

going to start guessing some obscure american sports terms. jart, ganker, plex, truntle...

ledge, Thursday, 17 March 2022 10:09 (two years ago) link

got it in 253; tenth guess was philosophy at 850, given that the subj/obj distinction is one of my perennial concerns in that area i might have fluked it a bit sooner.

Came in from view and opinion so had to flip it around a bit.

I solved Semantle #47 in 77 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of 0.99. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #53. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 25.92 (416/1000). https://semantle.novalis.org/

Came in from concentrate -> focus -> target, thankfully I missed any philosophy-related words or I might have been stuck guessing completely irrelevant stuff for ages.

emil.y, Thursday, 17 March 2022 14:45 (two years ago) link

I solved Semantle #47 in 401 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of 5.81. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #25. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 14.33. https://semantle.novalis.org/

That was ugly, but I didn't want to give up. And, yep, got caught in a philosophy related rabbit hole for far too long.

I solved Semantle #48 in 74 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of 13.94. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #6. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 19.97. https://semantle.novalis.org/

Ok could have been worse - got very stuck in teaching/telling words before making a leap to making words - once again, I have to remember not to get too fixated on the first green

lemmy incaution (emsworth), Friday, 18 March 2022 00:29 (two years ago) link

A hell of a lot more long-winded than it needed to be, but got it in 134. My way in: work (in the mid-greens) - employ - utilize - deploy - install - create - construct - build - FOUND!

Zelda Zonk, Friday, 18 March 2022 00:51 (two years ago) link

I solved Semantle #48 in 101 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of 2.62. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #2. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 15.60. https://semantle.novalis.org/

johnny crunch, Friday, 18 March 2022 00:52 (two years ago) link

Starting to get more of a feel what the guesses mean - a high cold/low green may be helpful in terms of whether it's an object or abstract concept you're after, and whether it's a noun/verb/adjective/adverb. Mid greens may give you a very general feel for the area, but it's only when you get into the 980s that you're really getting a clearer idea of what it is. And even then...
