92. God damn all of you guys!

i had actually quit playing for a few days, given up early because I was getting frustrated, but yesterday I did a speed run where instead of thinking about it, I just rapid fire started guessing words, and that seemed to help a lot. that and the path being a little more linear.

think when I move slower, I tend to just do the synonym olympics rather than being instinctual

satisfying 29 today, just pipped by two of my friends by one guess which is a little less satisfying

I solved Semantle #41 in 103 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of -0.99. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #80. (!!!!!!!!!).
My penultimate guess had a similarity of 22.35 (560/1000).

What the hell! I never had so much trouble getting a decent score in - first 15+ word at guess #35.

why though do we get a very similar word to the one we had yesterday?

“similar” depends on your vector i think (again i use vector irresponsibly). unless you mean “a noun”.

one thing i’ve found myself doing quite early on, without any sense of whether it’s a viable heuristic, is do “city” and “country” or sometimes “urban” and “rural” to divide between “natural” and intensively human spheres. both of the last two days have been “city” based definitely but not sure that makes them the same as such.

another one is whether things are spatial (geography) or time based (history).

please to be clear my success rate is rubbish. however i will stick to my superstitious success heuristics. #cargocult

the word yesterday was so similar to day before's that I bailed on that I guessed the day before's word, thinking I needed to refresh my cookies or something

lots of blundering around, first green was in the high 800s (think it was “meal”), second was #999, “meat” - from there it was pretty straightforward - anticipating low scores today!

i almost always guess food related shit cos it's dinner time when I play here, so it actually being about food made it easy

i was literally just thinking, as i was walking over to my laptop to do the semantle, carrying a muffin, "i wonder if there's ever gonna be a food semantle" but i still waited until 9 to guess "food." i then guess "muffin" which wasn't in the green.

Found it in 32, first guess in green was 999/1000

Found it in 36, got from animal to chicken very quickly then dicked around with all manner of farmyard animals for a while before realising the animal and the meat have the same word.

I've got to 999 on my 13th guess which is a record for me, but lets see how many more it takes

in today's pimantle i put in quaternion as a silly guess and it turned out to be #17

As someone easily amused, I did chuckle when things like 'supper (cold)', 'kebab (cold)' kept appearing.

My penultimate guess had a similarity of 55.25 (985/1000).

lol I tried Fizzles’ urban-rural thing, and zooom! “rural” 17.32 > “farm” 31.92 > “cattle” 897/100

this total lack of frustration and struggle today is disappointing tbh. It's a buzz to hit a high green early but not 999 ffs!

As for yesterday’s minor kerfuffle (so a kerfizzle then?), there aren’t many metrics by which “speaker” and “manager” aren’t similar kinds of words, even within the subcategory of nouns. I had a score of 967 for “president” the day before yesterday, and yesterday it scored 966. Same thing for “chairman/woman/person”.

I do also feel that nouns in general seem to be extremely overrepresented in this game. More verbs, prepositions, adverbs, et cetera, I say. Make the word categories more unpredictable.

Messed around with lots of forms of potato after I got that and 'roast' early on, plus many other typically roasted vegetables, before trying the holy quaternity of chicken, beef, pork (then would've been lamb)

first greens were all mealtimes so i got super stuck trying to think of variations on “lunch”!

i have a tendency to start with words related to building systems and guessed "vent" and "door" and when "door" was closer than "vent" i guessed "welcome" and then was close
