The commentary about today's Quordle made me go check it out:

I just solved an entire Octordle for the first time.

i don't tweet the score and while the tweeting is obviously what made it viral i don't really see any communal aspect to it bc no one seems to interact with each other's wordle tweets they just post them into the void. having said that a friend texts me his score every morning and it's such a trivial thing but it's brought us closer― flopson, Tuesday, March 8, 2022 4:17 AM (four hours ago) bookmarkflaglink
― flopson, Tuesday, March 8, 2022 4:17 AM (four hours ago) bookmarkflaglink
Yeah, this is the weird thing about the social-media virality: Because there's also a (socially enforced) prohibition against spoilers, it's impossible to do anything more than just post the score. There have been days when I have wanted to talk about the word or how I solved it, and the fact that it's such a communal activity makes me think that others would be interested, but the only permissible way to do that is to wait until the next day, when it no longer feels relevant.
― jaymc, Tuesday, 8 March 2022 15:16 (two years ago) link
We post scores in a channel on my work Slack and people discuss spoilers in threads; seems to work fine in a closed group, not so fine in a cowboy free-for-all environment like Twitter
― castanuts (DJP), Tuesday, 8 March 2022 15:19 (two years ago) link
I lost interest in Wordle, but like flopson there was a period where a couple friends were also doing it and we would group chat about it, it was nice (xp)
I just tried Worldle for the first time--looks fun in general, though today's was dead easy
― rob, Tuesday, 8 March 2022 15:20 (two years ago) link
So in the two weeks I've been doing worldle there have been about 4 I've known straight off the bat, and 3 or 4 I haven't got so there is a big variation.
Islands are tough, I've found, despite them being the ones that don't have any straight (ish) lines.
― Long enough attention span for a Stephen Bissette blu-ray extra (aldo), Tuesday, 8 March 2022 15:35 (two years ago) link
yeah yesterday was an island and I was completely lost and guessing pacific islands at random
Today's was easy, possibly the most distinctive small country shape on the globe.
Often I don't "know" it but I have a vague recognition that at least leads me to the right continent/region and then I get it in a couple more guesses.
― longtime caller, first time listener (man alive), Tuesday, 8 March 2022 15:49 (two years ago) link
I could see it being impossible at times. Today's was funny because I've seen map representations of that country probably more times than any other I don't have a personal connection to
― rob, Tuesday, 8 March 2022 15:53 (two years ago) link
That was me today, I knew what part of the world it was but not which country.
― Long enough attention span for a Stephen Bissette blu-ray extra (aldo), Wednesday, 9 March 2022 10:26 (two years ago) link
This one's quite fun. Try and go as many rounds as possible without guessing the word (you have to stick with greens and use yellows and can't reuse incorrect letters already guessed)

today’s Heardle is so easy/famous/iconic, and yet it took me several skips. for some reason the answer was buried in my brain beneath “Damn, I Wish I Was Your Lover”.
― celebrating ten years of constant posting (breastcrawl), Wednesday, 9 March 2022 11:55 (two years ago) link
The 1-second clip immediately triggered the artist for me, but then I played it again and it sounded less familiar, and I wondered why I'd had that initial thought. It took a couple of skips before I realized I'd been right all along.
― jaymc, Wednesday, 9 March 2022 16:22 (two years ago) link
seems to me that the octordle is actually easier than the quordle because of the extra guesses.
― Mardi Gras Mambo Sun (James Redd and the Blecchs), Friday, 11 March 2022 00:07 (two years ago) link
i've found that pretty much any quordle is solvable if you just burn your first 3 guesses on 15 common letters. i imagine octordle is even easier if you do that. but that's no fun.
― âś–, Friday, 11 March 2022 03:06 (two years ago) link
I think these kind of games are more fun if you're not being too strategic about it. Just enter whatever 5 letter word pops into your mind and go from there. I was listening to the new Ghost album so started with 'devil'.
― silverfish, Friday, 11 March 2022 16:12 (two years ago) link
Yeah I saw some people trying to work out the best first guess and to me that takes the fun out of it
Finally missed one today, got the last 4 letters in 3 but guessed wrong on the first three times
― frogbs, Friday, 11 March 2022 16:23 (two years ago) link
same tbh
― call all destroyer, Friday, 11 March 2022 16:23 (two years ago) link
First guess, I just wing it too--maybe try to get an 'e' or 'a' in there.
― clemenza, Friday, 11 March 2022 16:44 (two years ago) link
same, had the last 4 letters on guess 3, but picked the wrong choice every damn time.
― a superficial sheeb of intelligence (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Friday, 11 March 2022 16:47 (two years ago) link
I immediately went into letter elimination mode and still had to guess in order to get it in 6
― castanuts (DJP), Friday, 11 March 2022 16:59 (two years ago) link
if your goal is to get some 2's then you're better off using different and arbitrary first guesses every day rather than sticking to one optimal one, a stopped clock is only right twice a day whereas a clock thats completely freaking out could be right more often. this is more fun than using something like RAISE to optimize getting it in 3 every time

Heardle is not exactly trying to make things difficult, its database seems to consist of 21st century smash hits only, but I’m still pleased I got my first one-go answer today.
― celebrating ten years of constant posting (breastcrawl), Friday, 11 March 2022 17:14 (two years ago) link
Heardle annoyed me when I hit a few songs I only knew from the radio and they played the intro that I hadn't ever heard before (like the Ariana Grande one from several days ago).

I am planning a new game that just makes you guess Roger McGuinn songs
Byrdle
― jenny from the blockchain (Ye Mad Puffin), Saturday, 12 March 2022 05:45 (two years ago) link
A game where you have to identify the species of faeces - Turdle
A game where you have go guess how many days the milk is past its use-by date - Curdle
No doubt these all actually exist

I am reliably informed there is one just for hockey player names and it is called Gordle
― jenny from the blockchain (Ye Mad Puffin), Saturday, 12 March 2022 06:10 (two years ago) link
Would definitely play a game where you have to jump over a number of obstacles in order to discover the name of an American film producer whose illustrious Hollywood career was responsible for The Terminator, Aliens and Dante’s Peak among others

Haha I guessed right first try today! (For one of the quordle words, that is, but still) feeling like my luck is finally in
― wins, Sunday, 13 March 2022 07:11 (two years ago) link
great synergy between Heardle and Wordle todaywas playing the solution to Heardle and feeling inspired, I entered “shoes” in Wordle. that wasn’t it, but I did get it in two
― celebrating ten years of constant posting (breastcrawl), Tuesday, 22 March 2022 10:57 (two years ago) link
Heardle's list of possible guesses continues to irritate me. They have zero Beyonce songs (yet several Destiny's Child songs?), zero Maroon 5 songs, zero Weezer songs... there is like no rhyme or reason as to what's in there.

I missed this at the time but there is a spinoff called Byrdle already, it is wordle for choral geeks and I love it.
― emil.y, Tuesday, 22 March 2022 20:58 (two years ago) link
There's definitely some Beyonce songs as Halo was the answer the other day xps
― groovypanda, Tuesday, 22 March 2022 21:20 (two years ago) link
Huh, I searched for Beyonce and zero songs came up
― reggae mike love (polyphonic), Tuesday, 22 March 2022 21:34 (two years ago) link
Might have been the only one as looks like songs are removed from the song list once they've been the song of the day (yesterday's song no longer appears in the search for example)

It's funny how Worldle will jump from painfully obvious to virtually impossible. Like when it was brazil recently, I was like "come the fuck on." But then another recent one was BOUVET ISLAND, which I had never even heard of and basically just looks like a little, smooth, round bump.

today's was much more in the painfully obvious category
I'm usually not so good at this kind of stuff but somehow for a movie I saw once in the theatre years ago:Framed #13🎥 🟩 ⬛ ⬛ ⬛ ⬛ ⬛https://framed.wtf

Today's Framed was obvious from the first and the previous of days obvious from the second. I've only been doing it this week.

The Worldle game was much too difficult for me.
― the pinefox, Friday, 25 March 2022 12:24 (two years ago) link
Today's framed took me two tries since I never saw the movie. They should make something like this that checks your letterboxd and only quizzes you for movies you've already seen.
― silverfish, Friday, 25 March 2022 13:15 (two years ago) link
Worldle is the one of these I've found the most fun. Any game that ends up making me spend 15 minutes reading the wikipedia article on Svalbard is good.
