still trying to get a hang of this thing ... i didn't give up this time and got it in ... 94 lol. First green word came fairly early -- "taste" -- but then I ventured down multiple wrong paths. Then I decided to think like a computer in terms of what people commonly use computers for, and I got there quite quickly! (for me)

I got this one in 20. Kind of dumb luck because my nearest guess was “cold” - although to me it didn’t seem cold once I knew what the word was.

Fluked it in 15. Which is fortunate as I have a ton of work to get through.

I seem to do best when I shut off my brain and just flail around at random with words.

first guess was home and the closest opening guess I've made yet. The penultimate guess was a typo where I got two letters the wrong way round of the secret word and the first time I've noticed you get a score for misspellings that are very similar.

My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #24 with “season”, which came up when I was heaving moderate success with (northern hemisphere) climate- and geology-related words, which got me as far as “tundra” at 629 and “circle” (as in polar —) at 811 (at guess #74). I guess I could have explored things from the sports angle early on from “season”, but we just had a sports-related word recently, so I thought nah, I’m good.

Even though this was a bit of a rough one for me, it took several rounds across the day to get there, I like that I seem to get them in the end no matter what now. Knock on wood.

I find the "figuring out the jump" the hardest, because I almost always hit words that are in the 15-20% range long before I get any greens, and obviously finding similar words to those in the 15-20% are just going to have you endlessly finding other 15-20% words.

yesterday I started to get better at that, like thinking of other words that might be related to that grouping of words that aren't really synonyms and trying some of those out instead. each time I get int he green I can't figure out how my brain made the leap, but it does.

this is my problem. my impulse is to just try a million words and go wherever free association takes me, even if those words aren't really hits. and trying every variation of a word and close synonyms even if they aren't really hits.

and then i wonder why it always takes me 100+ tries. though i think i'm also just really bad at free associating to a wide array of concepts. i latch onto things

Onto #38 and fuck this. Over 200 guesses, many greens, my highest at 994/1000... and still I can't get it.

From the sublime to the ridiculous in fact, as yesterday I got it in 17. Just when you think you're getting the hang of it, you're not getting the hang of it.

Took me 108 to get to green but then 40 more to strike gold.
