Twitter West Brom is having a collective fit, clinging on to that 5-1 against the Wolves as the only good memory some of them will ever have in their lives. a decade in the Champo should be good for restoring a sense of reality

I feel the same sentiment towards L**ds Utd fans, even if it means them going down would include the displeasing result of Burnley staying up. Another decade in the champo slugging it out against Barnsley and Luton is just the medicine they need. In fact scratch Luton, they are serious playoff contenders and could be above them next season!

calzino, Saturday, 5 March 2022 09:23 (two years ago) link

now Bielsa's gone i can get back to unreservedly hating them again, it's complicated tho, have a few Leeds mates

I could have told you a long, long time ago that Karlan Grant wouldn't make it in the Premiership

imago, Saturday, 5 March 2022 10:00 (two years ago) link

our free transfer Danny Ward now has just as many goals as Grant in the champo, who we sold for £15m. He's not as clinical a finisher as Grant but he's a very unselfish hard working player and his hold up play is exceptional these days. Grant is one of them strikers who contributes next to nothing in games where they don't score.

It’s a pretty standard day of the game fan YouTube thing but I did enjoy it from about 4:30 onwards.

Yes! I’m very proud of my football club. We don’t get promoted very often - this is the sixth time in our 100 year + history - and we’ve been in this division for a decade. That’s what you get for not having a rich owner who can fund a loss-making season or two, but it makes successful seasons even sweeter.

Two consecutive party Saturdays to come, lovely.

Tim, Wednesday, 27 April 2022 06:43 (two years ago) link

Oh and Phil Brown was being a proper plank last night.

Tim, Wednesday, 27 April 2022 06:44 (two years ago) link

hadn't realised wholesomeness fc were stumbling the title so much too, that could be yours as well

imago, Wednesday, 27 April 2022 08:11 (two years ago) link

congrats Tim and nice to see Phillips on the scoresheet. We have got a rich owner again after our previous chairman's ambulance chasing company went bust, but he's a Yorkshire bastard and looks under his bed on a morning to see if he's lost any sleep. But still we weren't expecting to make the playoffs as our budget is in the bottom 5 of the champo and the our new improved back line was built from free transfers including the 2nd choice goalkeeper from MK Dons. Not arsed about winning the playoffs, just want to stop Forest because their fans are vile and despite them beating us twice this season they had a meltdown after our glorious one nil, against the run of play victory at their place. And I'll add they were scab bastards during the miners strike - since they are so obsessed with history.

calzino, Wednesday, 27 April 2022 08:17 (two years ago) link

Phillips has been a strange one - hasn't managed to hold down a place in the side, has scored a couple of absolutely crucial goals. Clearly he's a decent footballer and has so much pace but somehow doesn't seem to affect the game very much when he's on the pitch. I suspect his game is playing off the shoulder of defences and that's not really how we play (our manager likes a CF to crash about and disrupt defences to make space for other attackers). His goal last night was so odd: picked up the ball in the middle of our half, took it all the way down the pitch and scored, but somehow managed to look slightly unconvincing throughout (from about 50 seconds in here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=55vjHPF1usk (don't watch the chance he blew just before that).

Anyway I am grateful to Calz personally for arranging the loan of Phillips and am rooting for Huddersfield to do the business in the last two games.

Tim, Wednesday, 27 April 2022 08:30 (two years ago) link

it's good when a young loan striker doesn't fit into a manager's system, looks out of his depth and fails to hold down a place and is still manages to score two crucial goals imo!

calzino, Wednesday, 27 April 2022 08:38 (two years ago) link

that deceptive miscontrol and in off the deflection is just part of the armory of yr top tier forwards

congrats Tim, no better feeling than a really meaningful promotion

Thanks chums!

I am taking NV's DN personally though.

Tim, Wednesday, 27 April 2022 09:15 (two years ago) link

for some reason whilst checking the tables a few weeks back I thought you'd blown auto, but it's very open league 2 this season.

calzino, Wednesday, 27 April 2022 09:27 (two years ago) link

We were down as low as 8th in the table in Feb, but with games in hand that we mostly converted.

I think the only teams in the top 4 divisions who've lost fewer games than we have are Man City, Liverpool and Chelsea.

Tim, Wednesday, 27 April 2022 10:03 (two years ago) link

I nearly choked on my coffee with that bit of Hudds Town erasure there!

calzino, Wednesday, 27 April 2022 10:06 (two years ago) link

we've only lost 2 since November

calzino, Wednesday, 27 April 2022 10:08 (two years ago) link

Oh I see - sorry. I meant all season. We've only lost 7 which is obviously unheard of for us.

Tim, Wednesday, 27 April 2022 10:11 (two years ago) link

a double figure positive goal difference is our rare achievement this season. But no keeper in the champo has kept more clean sheets than Nicholls, we'll be lucky to keep hold of him.

calzino, Wednesday, 27 April 2022 10:18 (two years ago) link

We've had Cameron Dawson on loan from Wednesday all season and he's been an unbelievable keeper at L2 level, I imagine they'll want him back or someone who can actually pay his champ level wages (ie not us) will grab him.

Tim, Wednesday, 27 April 2022 10:30 (two years ago) link

call the cops Luton are being murdered

Number One shlong in Devon (Noodle Vague), Monday, 2 May 2022 17:44 (two years ago) link

oh dear they gave Nathan Jones the manager of the year award before the season was over. Some of our lot were moaning that Corberan should have won it. I'm superstitious enough to think manager awards are a curse. They'll probably get a result against Reading, but if they don't Middlesbrough could fuck their playoff plans on Saturday.

calzino, Monday, 2 May 2022 18:24 (two years ago) link

Bournemouth vs Forest tomorrow is a big one. I hate them both but want Forest to lose because their fans are almost more full of shit than the Leeds rabble and we can actually beat them and seemingly can't even compete against t'other lot.

calzino, Monday, 2 May 2022 18:32 (two years ago) link

Rob Edwards (Forest Green) got manager of the year in L2, but their collapse has been incredible to watch. Someone said they were 28 points clear of them at the start of Feb, and we overtook them this weekend.

I’d say it would be just like Exeter to throw it away now it’s in our hands but “it” has so rarely been anywhere near our bloody hands that no-one would know what we’re like in this position. Which is to say I still expect us to find a way to lose out on the L2 championship but we’re playing Vale who are experiencing their own little collapse so you never know.

Tim, Monday, 2 May 2022 21:20 (two years ago) link

sincerely hope you succeed in pissing on their bonfire, Dale Vince seems like a right twat.

calzino, Monday, 2 May 2022 22:20 (two years ago) link

There's always something to hate about all clubs, ECFC included. As far as rich dudes plaything clubs go, FGR seem pleasingly weird to me. I wish he'd decided to do this with a club in a place where people didn't have to drive to get there, and a place where a club might have a socially and economically (as well as environmentally) sustainable future. Like, I wish he'd taken on Gloucester City*, who weren't far from the league some years back, decent sized place and way better connected by public transport Hard to see FGR getting anywhere without a constant stream funding, feels like Rushden & Diamonds but made out of wood not leather.

FGR have been taking a modicum of heat about flying a Palestinian flag at their games, I note.

*I have literally no knowledge of what's going on or has gone on at Gloucester City, it's just Gloucester's nearby and might sustain a club once Vince has moved on.

Tim, Tuesday, 3 May 2022 11:41 (two years ago) link

I didn't know about the Palestinian flag. lol was assuming he is a smug eco-fash wealth creator who travels the world on the wooden solar powered sloop his minimum wage workforce made for him. And I still could be right! but kudos indeed for the flag.

calzino, Tuesday, 3 May 2022 12:07 (two years ago) link

Ecotricity have been my energy supplier for ten years and they're notably user-friendly, haven't had any bullshit off them. Plus, I liked Stroud just before everyone realised it was great and moved there

imago, Tuesday, 3 May 2022 12:17 (two years ago) link

Our game there had better not be a fuckin midweek

imago, Tuesday, 3 May 2022 12:19 (two years ago) link

imago, Tuesday, 3 May 2022 12:19 (two years ago) link

I always feel like Gretna in Scotland are the model for the Vince/post Vince world.

Gloucester are in our league (NLN), went shit or bust with the budget to go for promotion last year only for it to get announced nobody was going up, were relegation candidates up until February this season.
