peter luger's burger is crazy good.

mizzell, Tuesday, 7 October 2008 16:41 (fifteen years ago) link

it's not claimed as just the best burger in brooklyn, but the best in nyc

"peaches" in bed stuy has got some good nu-americana or whatever you wanna call it--good soul food/comfort dishes made w/ local organic ingredients

dunno what nu-american is, but that isn't new american food

gabbneb, Tuesday, 7 October 2008 16:42 (fifteen years ago) link

the shake shack truck never happened did it

joe six pak (ice crӕm), Tuesday, 7 October 2008 16:43 (fifteen years ago) link

HAY GABBNEBS TY FOR FACT CHEKCKING THE THREAD THANK U

joe six pak (ice crӕm), Tuesday, 7 October 2008 16:43 (fifteen years ago) link

dumont's burger is fine but by far not the best burger in brooklyn.
IMHO the best burger in brooklyn is probably at Bonnie's in Park Slop.

also, Bar-B-Q in Greenwood Heights is awesome.

really been wanting to try bonnie's

yeah i just rescheduled for no 7, so i'll be dining above your residence next thurs, cr m!

Surmounter, Tuesday, 7 October 2008 16:45 (fifteen years ago) link

joe six pak (ice crӕm), Tuesday, 7 October 2008 16:46 (fifteen years ago) link

i said nu-americana not "new american" so suck it

max, Tuesday, 7 October 2008 16:46 (fifteen years ago) link

question:

what ever happened to Honmura An in SoHo? I heard Jean-Georges bought the space a few years back but never heard what became of it. That used to be my go-to soba spot downtown.

the shake shack truck never happened did it

Kramkoob (Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃), Tuesday, 7 October 2008 16:48 (fifteen years ago) link

ian, how do you like your burgers cooked? i feel like that makes a big difference with dumont?

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Tuesday, 7 October 2008 16:53 (fifteen years ago) link

Sasabune now beating Sushi Seki in Zagat

Honmura An is dead

gabbneb, Tuesday, 7 October 2008 16:53 (fifteen years ago) link

shef i like my burgers rare goddamnit. i don't hate on their burgers or anything, but the price has gone up what, like $5 in the last three years? so it's good and whatever but if i'm gonna go and sit at dumont i'd rather just get the mac n cheese for real cuz that really IS the best mac n cheese in the area whereas the burger is merely "top 10" material.

ian, Tuesday, 7 October 2008 16:57 (fifteen years ago) link

dumont burger steez kinda misses the mark imo - everyone knows fast food style is where its at - its still good tho

joe six pak (ice crӕm), Tuesday, 7 October 2008 16:59 (fifteen years ago) link

RIP pies n thighs burger.

ian, Tuesday, 7 October 2008 16:59 (fifteen years ago) link

okay, Honmura An is now Dop Dop, a hair salon. RIP downtown soba.

will pies n thighs ever reopen? i talked to one of the owners last spring and she was all o yah well be open at the end of june :(

joe six pak (ice crӕm), Tuesday, 7 October 2008 17:01 (fifteen years ago) link

yes, Steve, J-G opened the world's greatest noodle shop there, but only ILX knows about it. on a related matter, what's the deal with Myth these days after the Great God pulled out?

gabbneb, Tuesday, 7 October 2008 17:01 (fifteen years ago) link

hahahaha i eat mine super-rare, i just feel like at dumont the rarer it is the better the burger is, everyone i know who like hates on dumont is a "well done" weirdo so i had to check!

but yeah, the price goes up, even since i moved back permanently it's gone up by a dollar or two i feel like. the prob with the mac & cheese for me is that i make really good mac & cheese myself when i can be bothered so paying $15 for it is like "well, i dunno" whereas i am completely incompetant on burgers so $15 for a burger seems like a good investment. tho yeah their mac & cheese is good.

i have heard there are good burgers at melt on bergen st (served like 1/2 price at the bar??) but i have only eaten brunch there.

xpost i was just going to ask about pies n thighs

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Tuesday, 7 October 2008 17:01 (fifteen years ago) link

god gabbneb, look like more of an asshole all over the thread for no reason

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Tuesday, 7 October 2008 17:01 (fifteen years ago) link

steve shasta soba ya is pretty awesome have u been there

joe six pak (ice crӕm), Tuesday, 7 October 2008 17:02 (fifteen years ago) link

i used to be a well done weirdo -- cuz i like the outside crispy! but then i understood this doesn't work. now i'm just a medium, if i'm kooky a medium rare.

Surmounter, Tuesday, 7 October 2008 17:02 (fifteen years ago) link

you could get it crispy without getting the outside more than medium rare, i feel like. i think that is part of why i like dumont's, the outside is still pretty charry even when i order it basically raw.

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Tuesday, 7 October 2008 17:03 (fifteen years ago) link

i like some steaks rare but a super rare burger is a little too mushy imo - medium rare is perfect for a big fat burger - of course if yr going shake shake etc fast food style its just uniformly medium and awesome

joe six pak (ice crӕm), Tuesday, 7 October 2008 17:05 (fifteen years ago) link

medium rare guys duh

max, Tuesday, 7 October 2008 17:05 (fifteen years ago) link

rare duh

gabbneb, Tuesday, 7 October 2008 17:06 (fifteen years ago) link

my dad will never shut up about the idea of ordering a steak 'black and blue', but I'm not sure if that would work so well with a burger.

Doghouse O RLY (G00blar), Tuesday, 7 October 2008 17:06 (fifteen years ago) link

dont you have some law stuff to do gabbneb

max, Tuesday, 7 October 2008 17:06 (fifteen years ago) link

god i can't put up with shake shack's mythos is the problem -- i rarely am in that part of town and the line is always hueg. i'd love to eat their burgers but not with those ppl in my jock.

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Tuesday, 7 October 2008 17:06 (fifteen years ago) link

i think p&t is now aiming for december. s4th & driggs.

lauren, Tuesday, 7 October 2008 17:07 (fifteen years ago) link

joe six pak (ice crӕm), Tuesday, 7 October 2008 17:08 (fifteen years ago) link

i still like the burgers at molly's. they are not the fashionable fast food-y kind, though.

lauren, Tuesday, 7 October 2008 17:09 (fifteen years ago) link

yah u have to go to shake shack on off hours

dont you have some law stuff to do gabbneb

gabbneb, Tuesday, 7 October 2008 17:10 (fifteen years ago) link

also: joe's bestburger in queens (flushing) on main st. pretty good in-n-out knockoff, and they make handcut fries which are a+.

lauren, Tuesday, 7 October 2008 17:10 (fifteen years ago) link

i have heard there are good burgers at melt on bergen st (served like 1/2 price at the bar??) but i have only eaten brunch there.

?? really ??

didn't like the brunch there, maybe I'll try the burger

hey schef you been to alchemy brunch, that's my go-to over there. bloody mary / eggs + chorizo / jalapeno cheese grits

dmr, Tuesday, 7 October 2008 17:11 (fifteen years ago) link

Sobaya is kinda blah compared to Honmura An.

how do you killfile in the new code?

also they have like 10 diff flavors of joe's brand soda, and you always get free cookies or something with your meal.

lauren, Tuesday, 7 October 2008 17:11 (fifteen years ago) link

yah i was eyeing joes bestburger on sunday

joe six pak (ice crӕm), Tuesday, 7 October 2008 17:12 (fifteen years ago) link

last time I ate at shake shack mary-louise parker was there

dmr, Tuesday, 7 October 2008 17:12 (fifteen years ago) link

joe's is the chain that wasn't - they have everything set up like there are a million of them around the globe, but that's the only one.

lauren, Tuesday, 7 October 2008 17:13 (fifteen years ago) link

also someone mentioned pequena in ft. greene upthread, their brunch is great + cheap. huevos rancheros etc.

dmr, Tuesday, 7 October 2008 17:13 (fifteen years ago) link

according to Eater, Honmura An reopened .... in tokyo

dmr, Tuesday, 7 October 2008 17:14 (fifteen years ago) link

i haven't been to alchemy, maybe i'll try this weekend! we've done that new orleans place on atlantic 2x (??? stan's? i forget the name). cafe du monde = winner. service is slooooooow and the prices are a touch higher than they should be.

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Tuesday, 7 October 2008 17:14 (fifteen years ago) link

that was me dmr! looove them

alchemy is good but overpriced for what it is, me thinks

Surmounter, Tuesday, 7 October 2008 17:15 (fifteen years ago) link

alchemy dinner is overpriced for sure. brunch ain't too bad imo.

dmr, Tuesday, 7 October 2008 17:16 (fifteen years ago) link

oh re: melt's brunch, it seems really super hit or miss.

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Tuesday, 7 October 2008 17:23 (fifteen years ago) link
